"Unrequited Love Letters of Emma Hauck
In February 1909, Emma Hauck (1878-1920) was admitted to the psychiatric hospital at the University of Heidelberg, diagnosed with dementia praecox.
While institutionalized, Hauck wrote a series of letters to her husband. They consist of only the phrase “Herzensschatzi komm” (darling please come) and “komm komm komm” (come, come, come ) repeated over and over. None of the letters were ever sent.
She died eleven years later at the age of 42 at the asylum in Anstalt Wiesloch.
Her letters are now held in the Prinzhorn Collection, Heidelberg."
I love how this piece flows. Love the inspiration too. It's like you're letting a voiceless voice communicate something more through the ether.

Hey, thank you for posting this Aaron.
Emma Hauck's story has stayed on my mind since I first saw the Quay Brothers' short film In Absentia about her letters. From the most detailed source I could find in English (Miranda Argyle's article on her), she was most likely schizophrenic and had become deeply paranoid by the time she was institutionalized. She believed that her husband and infant daughters were somehow harming/killing her and had withdrawn completely, unable to care for herself and wanting to remove herself from her family to exist alone in the forest. When she was committed to the asylum (for the second time - was originally released and then re-admitted within a few months) she was described as nearly catatonic.
Despite the fact that she had previously believed he was killing her and had subsequently shut down, she now obsessively wrote the unsent and unread letters to her husband begging him to collect her and explaining her wishes to return to their family. One of the early letters contains a section revealing she suspected that they were not being delivered. Her condition rapidly deteriorated and soon the letters were only a few words rewritten hundreds and thousands of times. Some people call the letters art, but if so it's closer to war photography than intentional self-expression. You can only hope that there was something like peace for her at some point in those eleven years.

@@Ophion_Music The Quay Brothers are also fantastic.... and I can imagine Herzensschatzi Komm fitting with any of their films....
