      @AZROF Look at the time between the videos he posts though, it's usually about once a week, yeah he gets a lot of views and if I had to guess a lot of active sub viewership. But if I had to guess his videos don't get promoted all that often by YT's algorithm since his videos are showing us what he wants to show us rather than what he believes the algorithm will promote. For example, I've been watching him for a better part of the year although anything new of his doesn't appear in my recommended, not to mention the reason most people on YT/Twitch have stuff like patreon/direct donations is because the ads from the platforms, especially YT, do not generate a lot of money. For content creators most of their money really comes from the selling of merch and doing other stuff like that, which some just choose not to because they either just post videos as a hobby or because of other things. We don't really know if he actually has the videos monetized as well or the amount he makes, please don't assume just because a content creator is popular that they have money to spend.

    Topping it off with people don't know how to breed healthy animals, they go for cute looks, and we end up with deformed and sick animals.
    Personally I would try and get the bloodline papers for each horse, so if you do end up breeding them (I would recommend just castrating Nano) you can know what you're in for and prepare with your vet during the pregnancy.

      @@HopeCreekConnemara I was thinking the same too, since Nano isn't displaying the usual stallion characteristics (personality and physical traits), but I would assume the vet would definitely know if he was gelded or they wouldn't have bothered checking Iris's reproduction chances.
      As a side note sometimes if mare doesn't want to be bred, for whatever reason, then she can and will fight a stallion off.

    Listen, I’ve only really seen a few people raising this issue and I want to add to the concern and conversation. I love this guy, I think he does great work. He is kind and compassionate and is teaching his children to be the same. HOWEVER when you get into breeding things get touchy.
    When humans are directly interfering with breeding pairings, we have the responsibility to use the knowledge we have gathered to set every pairing up for success. Breeding should be done for a reason and should be done with the animals best interest in mind. So, let me ask you this: is it in these horses best interest (and minis as a breed themselves) for them to produce offspring?
    The answer, if you look critically at the situation is no, of course not. These two horses, although they may have nice temperaments, although they have pretty eyes and colourings, although it’s a happy story and the man who owns them is good and kind, should NOT be allowed to reproduce. Let alone with each other.
    These are rescue horses for one. They were likely not bred for conformation, health and temperament, meaning that any foal they produce will not be set up for success in life.
    *Good* breeders look to better the breed(or species). For example, a good rat breeder will look for individuals who are less prone to respiratory ailments. A good German shepherd breeder will pair dogs with good hips. A good Paint horse breeder won’t breed two frame overos together. These are just a few examples. You need to know the animals past, any issues they have conformation, temperament and health wise and make your judgments from there. We don’t know these horses parents, what problems they may have had.
    The bottom line is that it is irresponsible to allow these two to breed, and to promote this kind of breeding to a platform of impressionable viewers. The colt/stallion (have we even been told how old they both are?) should be gelded, the two of them should be allowed to live a happy life together. They do not need to reproduce to do this.

The vet is right could the mare have a foal she answered that. We probably missed any consultation where the vet did a PE went over the history of the animal etc. for all we know the vet could have brought up the option to geld but there are people who don’t want to do that. It is not the vets job to judge a client no matter how much they might not agree with it. You don’t know how the people in the field feel about these animals and we can only educate so much in the end it’s the client that makes the decision as to what they want. Yes there are bad clinics but if this guy trusts this vet there is a reason just don’t judge a profession based on limited knowledge :/

    As much as having a foal from the two of them would be wonderful and exciting, i myself wouldn't be able to justify it for a few important reasons. As an animal welfare advocate (formally with horses but now i'm in neonate/feral kitten rescue) our purpose and goal is to help the millions of animals out there that need help, not make more. Not having a permanent place to live with the horses greatly increases my feeling about this.
    A simple solution that would be best for both horses and allow them to stay together, in the long run, would be to simply geld the colt. By gelding Nano you cut his risk of testicular cancer down to 0. A friend's stallion developed this and it was a painful, ugly battle that ended Dezi's life at the age of 7. Had he been gelded, he would have most likely lived well into if not past his 20s (my mares lived to be 32 and 34, bless them). Gelding also makes them more manageable and less frustrated making for a happier horse. And who wouldn't want an awesome gelding over an okay stallion?
    Bottom line, if you for sure want a baby from Iris and Nano (who wouldn't--they're priceless!), in my opinion after years of experience with horses and animal welfare, waiting until you are sure you have a place for 3 minis would be better than moving forward with breeding right now. Regardless, i wish you nothing but the best and truly appreciate what you have done for Iris and Nano. Thank you.

    I would love to hear the reasoning for bringing more mini-horses to life. It seems people have them as pets for their children, then discard them when the kids get bored, grow up or end up in financial hardships. Horses, miniatures or not, require a lot of resources, space, food, medical care, and their daily physical and emotional well-being. Not a small undertaking. Bringing additional member(s) to life requires more resources and commitments. Average life span of a miniature horse is 25 to 35 years. I would only recommend if one has the resources, time (up to 35 years) and commitment before considering bringing a foal into the world. Miniature horses will most likely go through many owners, thus increasing the likelihood of abuse. Love the ones we already have (as you clearly do), but don’t bring more to the world. We need to think of ourselves as stewardship of our planet, of our land and animals. “Pets” are not only for our entertainment and amusements but our responsibilities. I wish more owners would think of animals as human children in terms of commitments and responsibilities. It would mean people would think differently about ownerships. There would be less unwanted, abused animals.

      With all respect, I’m curious if you have some insight to some questions as a Patreon of his. To clarify I like him very much but as a horse owner I’m worried about breeding the minis. Do you know if he’s addressed any of the following questions that are coming up from other horse owners? 1.) Is he concerned by the genetic risks and issues of breeding minis? 2.) Is he aware of the risks of having nano display stallion behavior to Iris and his girls? Is there a reason he is not going to geld Nano? 3.) Will he have a permanent home and facilities in time for the foal? I really do want the best for every human and animal involved, and I think his heart is in the right place, but it’s a little concerning not to understand the thought process in breeding the minis. Hope all is well!

      D Black If you mean that as constructive then will kindly deconstruct your premise to further explain my the point of view, one which is being shared and echoed by many other qualified commenters. These are not undue complaints to drag someone down, but rather it’s raising collective concerns by experienced horse owners, breeders, and rescuers. My shared questions for him are not concern in dragging down a caring man, but rather for person who is self admittedly new to horse ownership. As the facts and information that he has provided have presented stand- there are some serious unaddressed issues. That is what is being addressed with the above questions. I want success for him and the minis. To counter a point raised- nature can never naturally take its course when one places two unaltered domesticated animals together. With that one act, humans artificially create a situation and choice for animals to attempt to breed. Compounding on that, taking two heavily genetically modified and unstable animals is dabbling in genetic gambling. In the case with rescue minis, from genetics to attempting to have the small mare to carry a foals to term, it’s a risk taking beyond what is reasonable or perhaps even ethical. Even if she can carry it isn’t advisable. From what is being observed and presented to the viewers, it is not well informed to create a more healthy and better offspring. Its is the same mindset that created those two minis and lead to the multiple deformities and congenital issues. I certainly don’t doubt his heart or good intentions. I don’t doubt that the minis life has improved from where they were before, but if his goal is to create an environment where these minis will thrive and live their best life- his plan as presented in this time, is several steps in the wrong direction. That is why there are questions being raised.

    • @swilson5320
      @swilson5320 4 роки тому

      D Black you misunderstand why I ask this person. Since he did not address it on this platform, I considered that it could simply have been answered elsewhere. That is why I asked a Patreon supporter as they may know more of the details and situation at large. I’m well not alone in these basic questions, and these are neither unsupportive nor unkind questions. As I’ve stated in my original message- I like him and I want the best for him and the minis. As I believe he does. My opinions are set aside, I’m reserved until these more learned about the situation. Thus questions. Nobody is faulting the judgement someone who is learning and wants to learn. However ligament questions, even uncomfortable and direct are not antithetical to support nor aid being given even shown. Again, this isn’t malice nor spite towards his work or his person. I loved watching him work with hatching eggs. Particularly, I enjoyed the emus, and I wish we knew what became of them and the others. Hopefully it will be revealed in a later date. Take care

      Hollering means to shout loudly & often angrily or crazily.
      I think she meant “hauling,” which isn’t the precise correct word either, as “to haul” is to carry a great weight usually with difficulty. I guess he could “haul” her in, but “carry” would fit better.

    I don't mean to ruin all the fun but I really hope, that he doesn't breed them. They really don't need a foal to be happy.
    Ever wondered why you don't see such small horses in the wild? It's because they were specifically bred to look like this. Over and over. Same as pugs for example. And such inbreeding results in a lot of diseases. Which was clearly shown in Nano's case. I'm sure there are some perfectly healthy miniature horses out there. But personally, I hope he doesn't risk it. Iris and Nano seem to be living a perfect and happy life. There is simply no need for a foal. Especially considering the risks.

      It’s probably not about purposely breeding but if they’re together then there’s a chance it can happen. As with any breed of horse, cat, dog etc, breeding has its risks. If you’re trying to continue a breed so its bloodline doesn’t die out it has to be pure bred. That has it’s issues. But letting different breeds make babies has other health risks too. Differences between the two can create odd mixes that are no healthier than their purebred relatives. Yes adoption is important. So is responsible ownership and also responsible breeding and care of animals. Try to adopt but if you cannot (because they don’t have a rescue/shelter/sanctuary, they’re a breed not readily seen up for adoption, you’re not able to handle an animal with possible emotional or mental baggage, or you have specific allergy needs that mean you can only have certain types) then responsible breeders are the way to go. Do your homework. Visit the place where the animals are kept and bred. Check for certifications. Look at reviews. Talk to a veterinarian you trust. And don’t rush the process. Illegal backyard breeding and people who abuse or neglect animals are truly horrible people . There should be stronger laws in the books against people who hurt animals and it should be taken more seriously than it is currently.

      @@momouwu1937 Yes I do love horses. And I watch for starving and neglected horses and ponies. The smallest ones are the most fragile. When I was a kid there was a horse boarding farm near me. Once there was a miniature there, I was instantly in love. Next visit I didn’t see it. When I asked I was told a big horse kicked it and it died. My fever to protect horses was born.
      I actually have a mini. I’ve had him almost ten years. He’s a senior citizen now at 18. You would never know it. He can run and buck like the rest, and he was never given any ground training. It’s natural for a horse to push back if you push them. They need to be trained to step away from pressure.

    Iris and nano seem like they could be dwarf miniatures; if they are (and even if they aren’t) I really recommend against breeding them, they have so many health issues at their size,,, if they are dwarfs you’d be looking at a dead or severely disabled foal. But again I have no control over what you decide to do and if you think you are capable of caring for all three. Just remember that miniature horses need all the veterinary care that a big horse needs -and more-, teeth floated, Hooves trimmed every 6-7 weeks or so, vaccinations, hooves picked daily and coat brushed, and a proper diet! I was very glad to see that you clipped them both, I was a bit worried with how fluffy iris looked😂 maybe check for Cushings, although many minis are just fluffy to be fluffy lol. I strongly believe past breeders have a lot to answer for & current breeders should be breeding for health & not for looks. Instead of perpetuating health issues they should be trying to breed them out.

      Absolutely. As long as the testicles have dropped it's very easy, even the cryptorchid surgery is possible although never preferred. Nano should absolutely be gelded, both for Iris's health, and the long term health and safety of both animals. I think Nano is still very young, but if allowed to remain intact there will start to be behavioral issues. That's not an if, but when.

  • @Bethelhorses
    @Bethelhorses 3 роки тому +18

    When I first saw the back leg issue I thought it was probably a stifle lock. the stifle is designed to lock, so that horses can sleep on their feet, but sometimes this locks when it's not suppose to. which can be due to poor nutrition or lack of proper exercise. Either way I am glad you fixed it. I had a pony with it and she had an injection into the stifle that fixed it for her. I'm glad you had her checked before considering breeding, but if you decide not to breed, why not geld the stallion? he would be a happier horse gelded and able to stay with his paddock mate, than kept entire and be isolated.

  • @Diddsalou
    @Diddsalou 4 роки тому +13

    Please don't breed! Props for knowing that just because a horse is tiny, it's not a dog and still needs company by another horse. Horses are very social animals and sadly a lot of people think that they're off just fine if they get them a goat, sheep etc. as a paddock companion when that doesn't help the horse at all. But breeding minis is so risky for several reasons, not just for the mom but also because minis can be prone to dwarfism and breeding them in general is just very unnecessary when there are so many other horses out there waiting to be adopted.

      He isn't breeding them to sell them or grow a barnyard. He is breeding them because they need to breed.

      Why do they need to breed?

      I know, so many horses get sent off to slaughter, anyone who breeds at this point is just contributing to the problem.

      I get what your saying but try to understand, to neuter or spay one of them would be very risky consider they are so small and putting them under anaesthesia could be deadly. They only other option would be to separate them, which will cause many other problems since they are already bonded. The best option is just to let them breed and take care of any foals they have.
