Thanks for the content, this is excellent to validate to knowledge after reading the official guide (or even skip reading the guide). In 12:51 when you say "When James I inherited the thrones of England, [...]. For 11 years he found ways to raise money without Parliament approval, but [...]", this should be when Charles I inherited the thrones. Hi, Tom. I’m a little confused by the the first question, when Wales was annexed to the crown? You answered Edward I. In this chapter we did not speak about Edward the I at all, he was in power 200 years before the Henry VIII, and as you mentioned earlier it was during reign of the Henry VIII, Wales became formally united with England. Can you clarify which answer is correct. Is it Edward I, or Henry VIII ? Many thanks
In 1284 the crown of England annexed Wales under the Statute of Wales. But annexation and incorporation are two different matters, and the Act of Union of 1536 declared English King Henry VIII's wish to incorporate Wales within his realm.
Hi Tom, thank you so much for uploading these lessons and the exam questions. My daughter in law passed her test first time after practicing from here. I didn't see any information about the first test question regarding Wales being annexed to the Crown in this chapter. Am I missing something?
The first question at the end of this video is actually in relation to "The Tudors and Stuarts" section in Chapter 3, rather than this video which is "A global power" section in Chapter 3.
It's a bit confusing.
To try and make it clearer:
Chapter 3, The Tudors and Stuarts
In the video ua-cam.com/video/xbav_wY3ZT4/v-deo.html
1min 19 seconds.
"In Wales, the English were able to establish their rule. In 1284 King Edward I of England introduced the Statute of Rhuddlan, which annexed Wales to the Crown of England."

Chapter 3, A global power
In the video ua-cam.com/video/VxSfmIsD6jg/v-deo.html
At 4min 5 seconds.
"During the reign of Henry VIII, Wales became formally united with England by the Act for the Government of Wales."
You can find this information here: lifeintheuktests.co.uk/study-guide/?chapter=3§ion=3/#start9
Since the question is: "Wales was annexed to the Crown of England by which king?"
Then the right answer is Edward I.
I find the videos very good and, as Tom mentions all the information the questions are based on are in his videos.
Rather a long answer, sorry. :)

1284 Statute of Rhuddlan by Edward I annexed Wales to England. During Henry VIII simply the Wales Government accepted that :)
