    I was able to score a MkII for about half of the MSRP last year on eBay, and I haven't regretted it for a moment. It is one of the most possibility-expanding instruments I've ever encountered. I know that you prefer playing via MIDI but I'm surprised that I didn't hear you mention the clutch function. To me, this is just as radical an innovation as the morphing you see on PolyBrute or the expression keys on the osmose. It's the sort of thing that makes me wonder why all keyboards don't have a clutch.

    • @GTChris
      @GTChris 6 місяців тому +2

      Knowing from aquarium filters that if the waterflow is prohibiting the motor and thus does not cause much or any friction. Then a free spinning motor can outlast even the factory life expectancy by decades and that's even underwater with all sorts of buildup from algae and such, knowing the motors in the motor synth aren't experiencing much friction since they are optically read and do not have to move forward a vehicle for instance, also they are protected from dust, then I would say that they may even outlast any analog oscillator and if the parts are standard which is most likely the case since this is mass manufactured and not as boutique as they would want you to think, then they are even easier to replace than most analog synth parts.

    • @MilesAwayOfficial
      @MilesAwayOfficial  6 місяців тому +1

      I understand your concern but like the commenter below said there’s 0 friction, and it’s a controlled environment with no dirt or grime getting in. Also, the build quality of the synth is genuinely fantastic. Best built synth I own along with the OBX8 and 3rd Wave, so it inspires confidence

    • @thaJeztah
      @thaJeztah 6 місяців тому

      Heh, was wondering the same. Perhaps a low-pass and high-pass in parallel? Both paths combined would still let all bands through, but you'd get the artifacts (such as resonance)

    • @MilesAwayOfficial
      @MilesAwayOfficial  6 місяців тому

      Like the other commenter said! All-pass filters don’t actually attenuate frequency amplitudes directly, but rather alter the phase relationship of frequencies across the spectrum. So you get this interesting resonance response.

    Very nice video. Thanks. I must say though that if the motor noise is happening within the audio signal path and not just physically "in the air" then the synth is practically unusable... unless you're making an album called "In The Dentist's Chair". 😉 Seriously though, if Game Changer (good company btw) can figure a way to get that noise out of the audio path completely, THEN they're on to something very cool indeed! Cheers.

    Demo 2 is probably my favorite thing I've heard from you thus far (though admittedly, I'm new here :D )
    $3.3k is a big ask for me, and the ambient noise probably makes this impractical for my primary uses. But like all Gamechanger Audio stuff, *damn* is it cool. I don't think it's "overpriced," because it's mad science: the parts and processes are non-standard, so you can't really rely on the economies of scale that a Music Tribe can.

    It sounds effin incredible.. but what I would want to use it for, the sort of pads you started off with, I could never successfully play with 4 voices. And then 3.5K aud. Hey, if it was 8 voices, I'd buy it even if it was 5K Aud.. cause it's so gorgeous sounding. Now THAT is warmth. The word has never fit better with a synth before. Goosebumps and chills to my core. But I could hear the note stealing with just the first intro you played, and that would drive me insane. If they produce one with 8 poly, I am IN. And just to be fair, the sort of pads and way I play, I can only *just* get away with 8 voices. Just. So even that would be a stretch, but doable.

    • @MilesAwayOfficial
      @MilesAwayOfficial  6 місяців тому +1

      That's fair critique! Voice stealing is definitely noticeable with 4 voices on anything. But something worth noting is that this synth is so bassy and in your face, having the voice stealing actually cleans up the mix a lot. No overlap.

      I’ve owned the synth for about two months now. I am fortunate to own a lot of classics from a Jupiter 8 to a CS 80, as I bought the many years ago. I find the motor synth to be incredibly musical and deep. It’s got this wonderful vintage sound to it. It’s incredibly well built, and I find I can get lost in its musical capabilities. Take time to watch his videos. They’re fantastic. I wish all synth companies did this. It would increase their sales, and reduce frustrations. 😅

      I'm going to go out on a limb and say that for a boutique instrument (ie relatively low unit volume) with this build quality and the crazy, crazy amount of engineering involved, this synth is probably being sold at a price point that barely recoups. In the famous words of Steve Martin, if you can't afford something, don't buy it! I freaking love mine; it is completely unique among all other instruments. 0/10 buyers regret. But I'm also not poor. That's not a brag, just a factual bias.

    Is that not the same, how a Hammond organ works?

    • @MilesAwayOfficial
      @MilesAwayOfficial  6 місяців тому +1

      Not exactly! A Hammond Tonewheel has discs that can't vary in pitch, therefore speed, so each disc can only make one note. The motorsynth's motors are much more advanced so that's how they can behave like traditional oscillators (detune, gliding, changing pitch, modulating eachother etc)

  • @djkanyon

    The motors pumps the price so high that it's basically the rich kid's toy. For now. If the industry will continue to grow in that direction (i mean, where's Yamaha with their bike motos industry when we need it?), we will have some really innovative and fun new ways to play. I have a hunch that it's not going to happen this way but let's hope it will.

      Just because you can’t afford it, it doesn’t mean it’s not interesting to learn about. A Jupiter 8 in 1980 was over $5000. With inflation, this synth is cheap. It’s such a shame that whenever a synth company comes out with a very innovative synth, many people start by complaining about the price. It prevents innovation. Buy what you can afford, and enjoy watching videos on anything that’s interesting whether you can afford it or not. Maybe one day, you will be able to afford it. Maybe one day, you’ll sell five of your other synths, or your dog in order to buy one expensive synth. It’s just a shame when people bog down the comment section with a bunch of complaints about the cost. It serves no value and takes away from productive comments. The inventor of this synth probably put three years of his life into this thing. Give him a break.
