This is very exciting! Those of you who have been following me for a while know that one of my favorite mics that I recommend is a Lewitt LCT 550! Now, Lewitt has come out with a new mic called the “LCT 540 Subzero.”
What better way to test out a new mic than to record a full song using ONLY THIS ONE MIC!
The song we recorded only using the Lewitt LCT 540 Subzero is called “Nothing I Can Say.” I wrote this song with Buck Johnson, Aerosmith’s keyboard player (before he was Aerosmith’s keyboard player!) In this version of the song we have Matt Starr (Mr. Big, Ace Frehley) on drums and myself playing the rest of the tracks!

I was about to mention that - I was very surprised, this is the first song I hear Warren sing. Very good job, smooth voice, simple melody with a lovely feeling to get caught up in.

Wonderful vocal tone and a smooth performance. I would use him any time for vox, color me surprised!
He does have a classic, relaxed British style. Maybe some Lennon with Thom Yorke and some Tom Petty? I do like the mic too.
Someday one of these Mic demos will hit the charts and I will be that annoying guy telling everybody "I knew him before he was famous!"

Thanks for backing Lewitt. I got the 440 pure in large part due to you although I listened to countless mic shootouts before pulling the trigger. Totally happy with it. How do those guys make such good mics for such modest pricing?

The drums had different mics around it. Was it just for the guitars and your vocals?
There’s only the one mic on the recording. The other Mics are Just set up as per normal.

I agree with some of the comments below that you pretty much skipped over the fact that you were using the UK Sound 1173 on every track as well. Modesty is a virtue indeed! :-)

Hi Monkey Dangus, it was mixed just through a handful of channels on the console. However the EQ and compression was off of the Drums! That was just the MV2 and an EQ!
This is awesome! You should do a mixdown as well to see how much was "added" etc... Would be interesting I guess!

What is it giving ur voice that grit and glue stickiness like sandpaper. Is it hardware preamp? compression? High frequency boost?

So cool. Never heard of this mic, sounds like a big surprise. I would highly suggest you do a video showing you mixing this song and what settings and plugins you needed for the mic to sound quite good - jealously good lol. Big thumbs up 👍👍
You sing so carefully and without emotion, that it is not fun to mix this song. Your timing is also wrong at the beginning. The drummer also plays so carefully that the pressure is missing. In addition to, I understand the challenge, but stereo is defined by the difference of left and right and there only one microphone to use, of course, is not conducive.
I do not enjoy it.

Hi Herr Nox Marvellous question! Every vocalist whether they are male or female needs different recording techniques and mixing. Starting from getting an amazing performance from them!

I do like the high hat sound and the crackle before the singing note of the lead guitar. And the song it’s self is very nice. I too am recording at the moment. Awe the fire burns lightly but not for long. The fuel is coming. Kids will tire of things they can’t do because to idolize today’s hero is to take away all that was thought to have powered that heroism. Which is a computer program. And a lot of today’s idols simple have no talent to learn from with out the computer making the talentless sound nice. They do look appealing on the screen though. Seems like they sell their looks and not their ability though. Don’t get me wrong they can dance like crazy. Most of them.

Hi Warren, What a nice voice you have, Congrats and thanks for sharing. May I ask a question which makes me bothering for a long time. You use a nice mic and preamp to record whole song with a not very expensive audio interface. I want to understand what is the point of audio quality chain about recordings or at least listening just digital audio. My question is; If the DAC converters are metering by 'bit(16/24)' and dynamic range of samples meter by 'khz(96/192)'; so what is the point between an expensive audio interface and inexpensive one. I mean if both are 24bit/192khz, are they equal for recording and listening music? the different is shown by the quality of mic preamps? OR only the D/A converters effect the price? if Yes, why? about output Db's? In a simple way, If I dont want to record any analog signal, if i want just to listen music in the highest quality, does the most affordable 24bit/192khz audio inteface satisfy me? Thank you very much. Orkun.
Man, when chorus hit I was hit and it was good! I got moved by those vocals and yes the instruments too, but vocally…….⚡️💥🔥 Yeah, great. 👍🏼 nice mic too….. That chorus though lifted you up and swept you away! Beautifully done, guys.
Very characteristic high midrange on this one. Really liked it on the guitars, made them cut in a good and non-abrasive way. Didn't like it as much on the vox.

I did not really like how it picked up the drums but with that said I can't think of any single mic that would do it better. And everything else sounded amazing. That mic has just made it onto my wish list!!
Hey Warren, great talent right there. Kindly advise, if you had 440 pure and 540 subzero, which would you pick as the workhorse mic, and why? What would I miss is I just pick the mic (440 pure or 540 subzero) and the iD4 and not use the uk1173 strip? Thank you. I'm about to launch my music production hassle. Thank you indeed.
the more I listen to you, the I'm further convinced that there's no reason to spend thousands on mics with the quality and glut of quality mics today like the Roswell mini k47. If the stalwart classic mic makers don't re-evaluate their prices ESPECIALLY THE WAY THE RECORDING BUSINESS IS GOING, they are looking at being the next GIBSON to file chapter 11 IMHO . Off my soapbox.

Hello Mr. Huart (et al.), I'd like to ask you about your preference between Lewitt 640 TS vs. Lewitt 540 SubZero. I'm on the fence as to which one to get. This setup example of using one microphone for vocals, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar is my exact application in my home environment (drums are virtual). Further, this excellent song of yours is my aspiring style. I'm drawn to the 640 TS ability to change patterns and the option for stereo recording, but your 540 SZ vocal performance sounds so stellar. If you had instead used the 640 TS in this video, would you have expected a different outcome? If so, in what way? Additionally, if you had a choice between 640 TS and 540 SZ, which would you prefer/recommend? Many thanks for granting us exposure to and glimpses into these great recording techniques and how to get these wonderful sounds and songs bouncing around in our heads at 3am into reality! I look forward to your next video and welcome anyone else's opinions and recommendations to my questions. Cheers

Warren killer song! I know you say your not A singer but that was awesome. I really like the chorus. The producer in me wanted to hear like a 3rd of 5th harmony second vocal on the pre chorus to help build that sweet chorus. Great job overall. fantastic! one day when i have the money id love to add the LCT 540 to my locker, but for now ill have to stick with my SM7B. but the sm7b also has a pretty low noise floor. i wonder how they would compare?
Hey BABz the Sub zero is quite a bit quieter by comparison. It's a very detailed microphone meant to hear the subtlest of sounds with almost zero self noise. Very cool microphone

You've surprised me Warren, really impressed by your vocal on this. The whole production sounds great (as ever!) the only thing I'd change is the lead guitar tone, sounds a little on the fuzzy side
That mic works just fine. Sometimes you want a tube though, either in the mic pre, mic or both. Great song too. your voice is very well suited for pop singing.
