Update on Will’s hand:
Turns out Will got jammed so bad in this video that it caused some minor damage to the ulnar nerve near his thumb 😬. But long story short: after 10-12 days of ice/rest/ibuprofen, we’re 100% back baby! Definitely gonna be wearing a thumbpro guard next time we do this lol
And one more thing to note here:
You'll notice a different between the pitch velocity being shown (Stalker Radar Gun - yellow numbers) and the velo being shown from the Hittrax. That's because the Stalker (meant to capture pitch velo) measures the velocity of the ball right at the release of the pitcher/machine (peak velo) - this is how all pitch velocity is recorded.
And the Hittrax (meant to capture batted ball velo) measures the velocity of the ball off the bat, and the pitch velo at the time it reaches home plate where it has slowed down a bit due to air drag.
Good to hear it’s better. I just got the Easton Fuze bbcor, and I’ll say I’m a huge fan so far. Cool stuff Will
I didn’t know getting jammed so bad that it would cause hand injuries
@@SWL281 same!!! lol
Glad your better now!
Good distinction here. Hittrax + Blast data is very important for batted-ball efficiency ratings (how well the exit velo matches up to the pitch). Old School stadium guns use to also measure pitch speed closer to the plate before they moved to out- of- hand speed. That's why many people still consider nolan ryan to be the fastest pitcher ever, because he was measured at 100.9 mph 10 ft in front of home plate which at the hand is closer to 108 mph
Hitting tanks with Will is my favorite activity in the whole world
Its seriously some of my favorite content when yall are together. Bring Trevor on next time with will!
I'll be in Peoria at the Padres ST facility for a week in Jan. Lets get some content.
@@Otaku7Studios to be fair, it's pretty difficult for pros as well. Across the MLB, hitters are hitting below .200 against pitches thrown 100+ mph
I heard "King of Juco Max Bat", what happened to Victus?
@@baseballbatbros not to mention that pros obviously throw off speed pitches mixed in with the gas
Should've mixed in a 73 mph curve to buckle Sim
LMAO omg Think he's hear the dip in noise from the spin slowing down? :D
And a few out of the zone, as a real pitcher would mix in.
Yes... with 3K+ spin aimed at his head... I'd break out the popcorn for that.
As fast as that machine was, it's crazy to think there's pitchers out there throwing sinkers and cutters at that speed.
Just varying the pitch location would have made it far more difficult.
Nobody is throwing sinkers at 100mph
@@broctucker2838 Incorrect
@@broctucker2838 ua-cam.com/video/OYp6W8guYUU/v-deo.html What?
@@broctucker2838 there's a few different guys that throw 100 mph sinkers. Brusdar does it with no stride
As a regular guy, I can appreciate how hard this is. When I was younger (in my early 20s), I tried the "fastball" lane in the batting cages. The pitches were low 80s mph and you got 20 of them. I foul tipped one. Whiffed on the others. I think the regular lanes were about 60 mph and I would usually do quite well in those. The jump from the 60s to the 80s increases the level of difficulty exponentially. I can only imagine how much harder the 100 mph balls are to hit. Many people don't realize the size of the talent gap between pro athletes and regular people (even regular people who are pretty good at whatever sports thing).
It's just reps. If you see 80s consistently over a few years and you already have a swing, it becomes "easier" to time. When they start breaking or falling off the table that's when it's a real bummer
@@deadarmd Yeah like Eric was pretty consistent here, but this is 100 mph fastballs every pitch. Once you're timed up you're there. Having to face a pitcher that can go from this to 90 running in on you to 75 sailing away from you is what makes it so damn hard
What's even more crazy? The jump from a 90mph fastball to just maybe a 93/94mph fastball is outrageous. Source: played college ball and played for 15 years in total haha
I love how Will is just timing it and swinging csuse he knows it's gonna be in the zone and just praying to the stars he hits it. Hope your ✋️ 🤚 better soon brotha
When sim started swinging the Mac n cheese goods I completely forgot they were trying to hit above 100mph
For some reason, this video felt a lot more casual than other videos you guys have uploaded. I love the casual feel and style of it. Keep it up!
Love the collabs wuth Sim. We gotta see the boys with Bauer. I want to see both whole crews and all the MLB, MiLB, NCAA, & HS guests in one epic vid.
Will sacrificing his body to bring us content. He is the BOSS. Rock on Will and KoJ, Rock on.
Love y’all keep up the good work y’all always help me decide on a bat and can always enjoy watching y’all after a rough day
I now have an irrational fear of being jammed by an 100mph pitch.
The chances are incredibly low,
but never 0 apparently.

You 2 should try going back and forth with speed, like hitting 100 MPH on 1 pitch then like sim a change up at like 75. See how that pulls you off.

Man I need to hang out with you guys… the vibes are always positive and even tho I’d suck because I haven’t hit in almost 20 years y’all would still make me feel like a million bucks from your attitudes
All the respect to these boys! Love the videos! Keep em coming. I go to you guys for all the bat reviews and then you throw in some of these gems and it's just the cherry on top to your channel!
Let's go, love your vids, I travel for baseball across the coutry and my team talks about u guys
4:00 Bro's ...... I haven't swung a bat against a good pitcher in 3 decades. That stinger brought back some memories guys. That was a good one!!! Ya never forget that ZAP!!
When i was 13-15 junior babe ruth we took about 75% of our BP off hitting machine jacked to between 80 and 100mph and that was by far the best hitting team i was ever on. You hitting like that during practice made hitting kids throwing between 60 and 80mph in games like taking batting practice. And we were swinging something like 33" -12 2 3/4" barrel air attack 2 500+footers were not uncommon even at 15 years old.
Yea we had coach pitch in little league and them taking it easy on us only hurt us the next year
jesus -12?
Anyone with any scrap of talent can time up a 100mph straight fastball, especially when you know it's right down the plate. These guys are better than I was, swing mechanics and everything, so I'm not taking anything away from them of course.
But it's still amazing seeing anyone hit over .250 let alone higher in MLB with 94 mph sliders and 88 mph sharp curves and 100 cutters and sinker. Unreal and under appreciated how talented those guys are.
I've done some research on this and from what i found, when it comes to ideal speeds, it turns out there is a weird correlation to pitch speed and swing speed. So if you're swing is 90 mph, a 90 mph fastball would be ideal for you in terms of reaction time and overall power. The higher the overall velocity, the lower the COR of the ball, but the more energy it has. Based on pure momentum formulas, a machine that swings the bat like a person against a machine that pitches perfect heaters with perfect accuracy can have an ideal pitch speed of up to 250 mph, but when you account for human reaction speed and rotational timing, there seems to be a relation that I call rotational symmetry
love it. I personally find that I can swing much harder against slower pitch speeds, but the ball comes off the bat better with high velo. So the resulting exit velos are kind of a wash
I love finding the crixus post, always fire knowledge.
@@baseballbatbros yeah that's another factor. It's also a matter of what speeds you're use to. A slowpitch guy has a swing dedicated to 25mph loopers whereas those short swings you see in the pros are for faster pitching. I made a graph and found a peak in batting efficiency at roughly 75 to 80 mph. This is arguably the ideal pitch speed, but it only accounts for pitches from 60ft away. I haven't done a study for little league and probably won't have the time for it soon but it is a start
@@Tevatron044 did you ever post your paper?
@@Thurokiir1 lol thanks dude. I had to redo the test in light of new evidence on bending theories. The setup i was using allowed just enough flex that the compression results were getting overtaken by the bending of the wood. It's very important to note that what most people call harder feeling wood is really just stiffer wood because the point at which the wood doesn't flex is roughlya inch wide. Everything else has a strong bending effect and unfortunately it shewed the data. I didn't figure it out until weeks after the experiment when i did a simulation of my test
It was so nice when Eric said ahhhhh man I’m sorry when he broke the bat 😢 so nice
you can see his timing get better and better as the ball goes right center left that's cool AF
I was hitting 103 MPH pitches like 17 out of 20 pitches. My exo velocity was getting to 107-110 and launch angles were around 55-64 degrees. On Hit Trax software I was hitting 490-520 footers to right, I was definitely milliseconds late on most of them.
Then I woke up and felt like shit. Got up. Took a piss, and went back to bed and proceeded to dream drag bunts the rest of the night.
This channel got me dreaming of juice and bombs.
BS
That was a good set up haha
The way Eric was so sorry when he broke their bat 😢 that was quite nice
It's crazy that Sim can hit a Homer off of 100 mph on fenway but somehow didn't make it to the majors
* with a metal bat.
*With negative sprint speed
*knowing that what’s coming is 100 mph fastball
*also down the middle
Well, you know where the pitch is going to be, and the speed it is going to travel. So there is no concern for "chin music", a curve, or even a straight change. Having said that, even after years of practice, I was well below average when it came to hitting a moving ball with a piece of sporting equipment. That would include a thrown pitch with a bat, a tennis serve with a racket, or a ping pong ball with a paddle. However, I could catch, throw, and shoot a basketball fairly well.
Imagine hitting 100 mph in cold weather that would hurt so bad!
Yo what up will !!! Love the vids, hope u feel better soon
Just found you guys and subbed! Hittin’ the cages is one of my all-time favorite workouts. I used to spend 2 hours a day, 3 days a week crushing 89-92mph heaters at my local cage. I miss it…
Your Sim colabs are great
Moral of the story is that, if you have good technique, it’s all about timing and seeing that ball. It can only come so fast. If you can hit 94 you can hit 100 and when you get on a machine you can make a lot of assumptions. One of these days I want to step in front of a legit 100 flail 20 times then start maybe connecting 😂
2:57 Physics nerd here: the ball actually does not rise, as that would break the laws of physics. However, you have done so many reps that you expect a certain amount of vertical drop from the pitches. At this velocity and spin rate, however, the ball does not drop as much as your eyes and brain expect it to. You expect it to be in a certain place, it ends up being higher than that expectation, and your brain interprets this as the ball rising.
Nice hitting! The brain is so amazing in how it adapts to changes like this. However, it cannot adapt to change ups that make the fastball seem like 130mph lol.
This is the first time I've seen Eric batting; Really good swing when he times it up.
That's a collab I can get behind. Nice work.
same thing happened to my hand this year mid game, i couldn’t grip the ball and threw 3 straight pitches to the backstop 😂
Right at 1:52 the ball comes out and he makes contact in 23 frames on a 60 frame time line. That's just over 3/8ths of a second. You'll notice he starts his swing before the ball even comes out at him.
He's got a nice swing. Hope he does big things in career.
I'm 75 and in a wheelchair but up to my early 50's if you know where it's going and your only getting fasballs it's not that tough. I used to do that. Unfortunately tech then didn't tell how far it would go. Just start your swing (footwork) before it's even released. Playing stickball with my brothers in 1960's screwing around older brother would come up to maybe 15 feet and throw. Knowing where he was putting it I could still get wood on it and he had a pretty good arm. From NY we used little pink Spalding or Pensy Pinky balls and regular wooden bats sometimes cracked that we would tape up.
The other guy is off balance. You are doing it perfection.
Reminds me of how I ripped the tendon away from my thumb lol. Then I discovered the glory that is those rubber thumb guards when batting. Even to this day I can’t imagine batting without one of those on my top hand thumb.
Sim is so wholesome this video.
man, when the big fella got locked in, he was mashing. nice work fellas
Good Job hitting, knowing that it will be a fastball in the zone every time makes it much easier than real pitching but not a cakewalk.
I found hitting off of a machine much more difficult than hitting off of a real pitcher.
Same. Especially at these speeds.
Gotta love baseball
watching Sheffield hit a ball was just insane with that stance he had. How he EVER got around on it is mind blowing
proves that baseball players are real athletes. Not just anyone can move a 29-33oz rod of composite/metal/wood off their shoulder at the speed required to simultaneously make contact with a 9in ball traveling at 90-100mph. Not even to speak of the raw mental skills required to either pick up sequences or actively read spin on a ball to decipher whether its a fastball/curveball/slider/whatever. While it isn't as physically demanding in terms of raw strength or stamina, baseball is unique in that each plate appearance is the single most difficult thing you will ever encounter. Fielding, baserunning, taking routes on flyballs, etc; none of them pale in comparison to stepping up against a pitcher you have 0 control over and hitting a high-speed white flash at all, let alone well.
@@toilet_cleaner_man yes, it the most difficult sport to be consistently great at.
well said brother, well said @@toilet_cleaner_man
Faced a guy clocked at 98 (lefthanded) in high school. Ball seemed much faster coming from him than the 100MPH pitching machine we used to get ready. My ground out felt pretty good especially 4 years later when he pitched in and won a World Series.

Straight BP. I used to stand halfway up the cage against our machine to try and simulate this. Fun times!
Lol, I tried 100 at the cages in Ocala with my nephew who was the number 4 catcher in the nation in high school. I’m 6’3” 296 and my hands were screaming for a week. Maybe we should leave it to my favorite player Ji-Man or Aaron who’s having a good season. Go Rays!!!!
How did your nephew fair in the batting cage?
Can you try this with a Louisville Genesis USSSA bat? Maybe a Kobe or APG??
Dang he is making a softball type swing on a 100mph heater. Very quick bat!
106 home run with a cracked bat is nuts
Will I need help with a bat I need a new bbcor and wood any tips the ES69 is sold out any bats to recommend. Looking for a budget bat.
the fact that humans can turn this around with a wood bat, not knowing if it will be a strike/ball and potentially facing a 95MPH slider is insane lol
I wish i could just hang out and hit with this setup with the boys every day. Live abs and all
this is way different than hitting a pitcher, there's no wind up or any visual clues for different positioning/timing.. he's rearing back to hit as the ball is still in the machine
These guys are beasts!
Love ur vids
The 2nd batter has a lot of bat speed. These guys are not just regular youtubers. They have to have some baseball experience.
Both former division 1 baseball players 🥰
As I've heard a major league pitcher say "the difference between 98 and 100 is 'that looked fast' and 'that sounded fast'"
Well done man

I've only just started this video -- is there anything protecting the camera from a line drive? If there is, I missed it.

Throw some changeups in there and see if timing is maintained 🤣
Much harder to hit off a machine than timing a throwing arm, however will has a massive front leg kick in his swing. His front leg was touching down and the ball was already there.
The crack corked the shit out of it 🤣🤣🤣
These guys have so much movement in their swings from start to finish. Can definitely tell they're bp guys, leave it to big boy velo to find the holes
The mac and cheese bat sounds like when you knock somebody out in Smash Bros
So in MLB composite graphite, carbon fibre or titanium bats are allowed along with wood but not aluminum?
Great job
Should bring Matt Antonelli on your channel and see who the UA-cam batting King is :)
Nice work. I just move my 50 mph beater up to about 30 feet...
Sim makes me happy man
Where are you getting these fire Bruce Bolt colors?!
Will : exists
Sim: ooooo
This makes me respect players like Adley Rutschman and J.D. Martínez.
Keep in mind that they KNOW that every pitch is a fastball down the middle so they can start their swing motion in advance. Pro pitchers mix up speeds and locations.
The most I ever faced was in the low 90's. That guy went to the majors for a couple years back in the 80's.
The real mechanics in facing 100 mph pitches is he's hot facing a pitchers body motion. Throw in a curve, sinker, off speed pitch and you have almost zero chance of hitting it. But then again with the majors new and improved steroid sized players I suppose anything is possible.
Goose Gossage use to body language 'here it is, right down the middle, see if you can hit it'. He had a raggy kind of motion in which itself looked out of control. One time a pitch got away from him nailing Ron Key in the head. YIKES!
"that was hammered" ... gets a single lol
It’s the greatest video ever.
Those were some zingers!!
Thats awesome man but think if “randomly” the machine threw that fast at your head!!
A very good promo for location and changing speeds. These guys are obviously good hitters, but if you're throwing the same velocity in the same spot over and over, what do you think MLB hitters are going to do to the ball? I've seen 12 year olds time up 83mph from 50 feet on a consistent basis. Loved this video.
the thing about velo on radars, is its out of the hand, not crossing the plate. little league speeds cant truly be converted to 60 feet 6 inches and thus increase speed, its just a shorter amount of space to react to... the 74 out of a 12 year olds hands is just hard to hit because you have less time to react. Lets be honest, you dont know any little leaguers at 12 years old throwing 83, this I promise you. Little league is also 46 feet.
@@jaredrogers7863 For some reason I haven't been able to respond, but maybe the link I've included... but look up Dexter McLeon on Perfect Game... he's just one of several throwing over 80 at 12 years old. Teammate Brody Constantine.. Carter Moon hitting 79... that's just one TEAM. No one plays little league in the South, it's all Dizzy Dean rules, and it's 45' and 9U/10U and 50' at 11U/12U. It's a different world out there.
He's got a nice swing. Hope he does big things in career.. Should've mixed in a 73 mph curve to buckle Sim.
It’s harder from a pitching machine for sure because you don’t see a “Wind up”😊
There's a BIG difference between a pitching machine at 100mph and a major league pitcher at 100mph! The machine doesn't have the same action on the ball like the pitcher. Greg Maddux, for example, never threw near 100mph, but when he was on, he was practically unhitable.
With a pitching machine, it's just timing. Start the swing a little earlier.
I can not imagine having to face a MLB pitcher, throwing curves at 90 mph, or 100 mph fastball followed by a 80 mph changeup. The timing and reflexes of MLB hitters are insane.
In the outro Eric looked like he didn’t know what to do lol
I gotta do this at least once!
Next up: Easton speed vs 100 mph. We’re waiting on it will!
