I had to be the primary catcher in LL one season due to necessity. It fucking sucked.
Also gave me an appreciation, though. As a pitcher I can't thank catchers enough. I remember having one who was really good and I definitely owe him some of my success. Makes our job so much easier.

We just had a playoff game today and the ump was outrageous, the ball was at my ankles and he called it a strike, and a lot of other balls were called strikes

2:20 Maybe it's a trick of the lens (or just a really good job of sliding them in over the corner) but strikes 1 and 2 looked a little out. The batter didn't seem to be perturbed by the calls, so maybe it's just me.

Crazy that most of those 'strikes' weren't even close. That field is pristine though.
Ump was awfully generous but the framing helps! Also loved the positivity. I quit mens leagues because people take the games too seriously. Here it was just some guys playing to win but if they don't, it doesn't matter.
the last baseball game I play was back in high school in 2015. This makes me want to play again even though its been 8 years since I last played
Do it man. Shit is worth it. Here in Australia I play at pretty much the highest level you can play outside of professional. So as you might imagine it's a little better than the baseball showcased in this video.
A lot of pro guys come here to play. A lot of the Australian Men's National team plays at the local clubs. A lot of guys who played professionally in the 90's and 00's and some current professionals from the independent leagues in the States.
Just play man, coming back to baseball after missing all of 16U was the best decision I've ever made.

Not necessarily the fear of velocity but the fear of getting hit. Just reps and practice!

I am currently a catcher in my school, and this video really helps me to frame better, any tips on blocking, or throwing to second?
when you throw down to second make sure your footwork is going straight through homeplate and aim for the pitchers head. You want to try and throw a long hop to the shortstop/ second basemen. For blocking, work on staying down and really tucking your chin as well as keeping your chest down.

I'm jealous of the field. My high school didn't care about baseball & our field was about one step above gravel. The grass was the saddest excuse for a field. I'd do it all over again though.

Whats the average speed from the pitcher? It looks like it's 60mph. Genuinely curious as i'm fully capable of enjoying a good game of baseball at those speeds with the guys
In the upper division (which we play in) it’s 80-90, in the lower division it’s about 70-75! This was fall ball so it’s way more relaxed, our second basemen pitched cause no pitchers showed up lol

If you watch the guys in the bigs almost all of them take a stance at the back of the box. Why? b/c an extra 2 feet give you more time to look at the pitch. I saw the first batter and wondered why he just didn't stand half way to the pitcher. lol

I have a question. How hard is the generic pitcher in your league throwing?
In summer league most guys are mid 80s with some touching 90-92, in fall ball It ranges from 70-85ish. They have two divisions in our league, one that is more competitive and one that is more for fun. They merge the two divisions for fall ball!
@@amd3366Nice, I think thats really cool I play spring ball and fall ball. Well late summer from 9/11 to 11/17. Spring ball starts in winter (Before 3/22) from 2/25 to 5/21 because there is slightly more games in my spring ball. And I am 13. Well turning 14 soon this month but the average pitcher in fall and spring are way different. Like fall ball is slower average pitcher is 45-55 max was 60ish in spring ball it was 55-70ish on average.

@@amd3366 6 months later I am now a freshman in high school in winter ball and hitting off of 65 to 70 miles per hour and I cannot believe 55 anymore is fast I still don't think 65 is either
I also lied about them throwing 70 in my league before high school they were throwing 45-55 not even a chance of reaching 70 I just wanted to sound cool 😂

It's either what Goofygoober said or the pitcher is throwing pitches that are going to naturally move slower, like a curveball or knuckleball. Or he just throws slow.

Yeah if you're going to go "Spock" style with the grip, and have your hand that far out (the way I like to do it too, most positive command of the glove from the stiff outside) you've gotta wear something to protect your protruding wrist/palm, cuz you can't adjust fast enough when the batter swings and chips it right at it.
