    I very much liked the short historical introduction to this kind of library at the beginning. I would love to see more historical work of this kind. (Sometimes it's even difficult to find original release dates of libraries, at least in part because it's not really in the interest of the companies to advertise the age of a library.)

      Native Instruments had a super sale for these, as both were 50% off. The classic S1 and S2 definitely work best as a couple. I love them both so much. An essential part of my template

    Thanks Cory. I love the way you're able to create consise and informative reviews such as this one. You've managed to cover a lot of ground in just 13 minutes! Because of this review, I might actually get Symphobia 2 while it's on sale. ....Perhaps Project SAM should hire you for future reviews?... Anyways, keep up the good work and cheers from Canada!

    The good news for us is that ProjectSAM have lowered their prices. A smart move on their part imo.
    Interesting video for me. I kind of stop following sampled lib. development around the time this came and was out of the loop for a while. I'm back on track now and it's good to know where the trends comes from and when it started. Thanks for the video.

      @@bulentkamali I've been through that with EW except it was way sooner after it came out. I understand it's frustrating but I'm sure ProjectSAM had good reasons to do that. Seems pretty obvious to me that the market pricing has change and that they are changing with it. As a rule, i never but newly release product(at full price). I wait till it goes on sale.

    Great video as usual, Cory.
    When there is no laziness in a product this is the result. It still sounds amazing!
    I saved for years to get a few libraries but i was very inexperienced so i spent money on a few wrong products. I wish i had bought this but that is my own fault for falling for the hype and not searching more extensively for videos like this showcasing the product in a solid way. Now i am stuck with a few libraries full of hype but inconsistent, buggy and not half as complete, good sounding or diverse as this. To make it worse, often times the developers jump to their next product without even fixing what is wrong with those products; even blame your system for the problems those libraries have which is hilarious.
    I guess that´s a part of every musician´s journey: spending money on overhyped vst´s and plugins only to regret it later.
    I wish project SAM had more sales so people who don´t have tons of money at their disposal could afford amazing products like this. Having that said, they are worth every single dollar.

      Never trust the hype, always trust your ears and instincts. The sample market can be as fickle as any other market, I've learned.

    project sam have their half price sale ending soon and I'm wanting to buy one of the symphobia's, but I can't find much info online about which symphobia is best to get if you don't own any at all. Lumina seems really cool but I'm not sure it's enough as a stand alone library, I know 2 has many legato elements that 1 doesn't have, but does 1 have things that 2 doesn't? I can only afford one of them, does anyone have any advice as to which symphobia I should get? thanks

    • @CoryPelizzari
      @CoryPelizzari  6 років тому +1

      If you need the basics that cover shorts and longs for woodwinds, brass and strings, then get the first one. It's rock solid. If you need legato transitions, 2 also has longs and shorts for various woodwind, brass and string ensembles as well as a top sounding flute and low whistle. So if you're after expression, get Symphobia 2, but if you're after a basic palette for hybrid foundations and plan to use your own legato instruments, get Symphobia 1. Lumina is much more specialised for whimsical fantasy groundwork and doesn't provide a lot of solid building blocks like the first two do.

    • @bobweb1000
      @bobweb1000 6 років тому +1

      Thanks Cory :) I've only got Kontakt 5 and the stock orchestral samples that came with that at the moment. Would that, combined with the shorts and longs in Symphobia 2, be enough to cover the basics? And then with the additional expression provided by Symphobia 2, would that be a better investment? Or is Symphobia 2 lacking too much compared to what Symphobia 1 has to offer in terms of the foundational samples?

    • @CoryPelizzari
      @CoryPelizzari  6 років тому +2

      Considering you've got the Kontakt factory library, it'd be good to get Symphobia 2 as it has enough longs and shorts for the ensembles to cover a fair bit of ground, while the legato and design instruments will give you that extra edge and realism. Combine that with Kontakt's library and you can do quite a few different things effectively.

    These things make you feel like Mozart lol. I mean I love making beats, but there's just something about classical music and movie scores that make you feel powerful. It's all about raising hell and making big and wide sound. I started with punk rock, but lately I realised it's all the same. If you have that inner drive inside then you can make anything sound big.
    Of course it takes some time to get into that zone of "professionalism". But damn.. plugins like these are heaven and from time to time you just have to try these things

    Hi Cory,
    Between Symphobia 1 and 2, which is more ideal for that big orchestral horror sound you hear in the Scream movies? Which is more useful for big action and orchestral FX and textures? They both seem to come with that sort of stuff, but Symphobia 2 is quite a bit larger than S1 according to the website.
    Cheers!

      Symphobia is not for you if you want to create that type of music. Go and watch some Orchestral tools Metropolis Ark 1. That library will suit your needs.

    I own Orchestral Tools Ark and don't feel like it can do much of this. There's a couple of patches that combine different parts of the orchestra, but honestly, not like this. And Albion doesn't really do that either. This makes it so much easier with presets for different combinations. I haven't seen another library that does this.
    Am I missing something?

    Wonderful review and insightful look into symphobia 2. I guess my only problem with this orchestra is that I have yet to hear anyone write a complete composition with it, so I guess that is not its intended purpose. I really think OE 1 and Symphobia 1 are probably much more useful . . . . at least for me.

  • @rhitosparsha

    Between this and the first Symphobia, which one would you recommend getting? I've read that the original one doesn't have true legatos.
    Or would you recommend getting both?

    • @CoryPelizzari
      @CoryPelizzari  4 роки тому +2

      If you just want the basic Symphobia sound the first one is fine, but the second one has all the legatos, combined ensembles and ethereal textures. Having both is great too, but if you were to buy just one volume first I'd go with 2.

    which library would you say uses best the combination of instruments? and what symphobia is the best?

    • @CoryPelizzari
      @CoryPelizzari  4 роки тому

      I like personally like Symphobia 3 the best because it's one of the only fantasy adventure themed orchestral libraries out there, but for a full orchestra sound with strings and brass legatos I'd say S2 is probably the best.
      I think overall, the libraries that have the best all in one combinations would be Albion One, Iceni, Lumina, Symphobia 2, Metropolis Ark 4 and Nucleus.

    After watching your "Amadeus Symphonic Orchestra" Review i come to this. Now i wonder if there is a Library with Patches like ASO and Sound like Symphobia2?!? I am not really sure about the patches with 2 or more sections combined and how it effects my composing as a beginner (i am the guy that wants to do symphonic metal). Do i have enough freedom to do quiet parts with the instruments i want? because i havent seen a oboe sec., clarinet sec. etc., its all combined with other sections... ASO has more freedom in that regard, am i right? But the sound diffrence is really noticeable...

    • @CoryPelizzari
      @CoryPelizzari  5 років тому

      Yeah the Symphobia libraries definitely have that live sound - but if you're after something of this quality and still want control over every orchestral instrument you may have to invest in a much larger collection. Currently the cheapest way to do this would be to subscribe to East West's Composer Cloud and get access to the Hollywood Orchestra Gold (or Diamond) and try it out for a month or two.
      Looking for "the right" orchestral libraries for strings, brass, woodwinds and percussion can be a rather expensive bout of trial and error so going for that subscription is a good way to get a feel for these kinds of libraries without breaking the bank.
