Regardless of the situation, the main focus should be her parents are being disrespectful, his girl now has to put them in check if she really loves him and respects him. I’ve had something like this where my mom (who I am very close to), was being disrespectful. It was the first time where I confronted her and put her in her place, respectfully of course. That “as long as they respect the religion” is soo important because as a person who grew up in a household with my mom a Christian and dad who wasn’t religious at all, the household was somewhat divided. My dad would get soo angry for no reason when my mom, my brother and I would go to church. Like she wouldn’t even ask my dad if he wanted to go, she would just get up get us dressed and start leaving and my dad would just go on a rant about how there is no God and all that. Just unprovoked it was weird, awkward and definitely affected my brother and I.

my family is christian, though whenever i bring up religion, they say they're not religious, but that they have a relationship with god. i'm not sure why, but yeah.

i would say it matters if you are planning on having a family or if you live a certain way/eat a certain way. if there are differences in lifestyle choices, it can potentially ruin the relationship. like maybe one partner only eats certain foods while the other doesn't, it may be fine if its just them, but with kids, it could cause problems. same with certain views towards things in life and what you can and can't do. i could easily see it ruining a relationship. i agree, the parents opinion doesn't matter.
A lot of has to do with major religions condemning marriage against non-believers in the scriptures but also these things tend to be vastly outdated or straight up misinterpreted so I feel like that’s not really valid.

So when I'm trying to find a girl I would potentially want to start a future with, it's hard because I have two people talking to me in the back of my head. I have my dad saying that I need to find a good Christian women that loves the Lord and belongs to a good family, but the other part of me is thinking, what if I fall in love with someone that doesn't have the same religion as me or isn't religious at all? I don't feel like I should condemn my feelings for the person I love because she not Christian like me. The children had the option to choose their religion and they mostly picked to be Christians, maybe because it's less strict
