Thank you very much for telling us such valuable things. I always learn valuable things from this channel and it is always very useful for me. It is really valuable to have someone with knowledge about ableton like you do something like this. Many thanks again.
hey! thanks for this amazing video. do you ask producers to give you stems with kick-sidechaining baked in? have you ever triggered that live? would love to hear your thoughts on this
Great video as always! I’ve always struggled with a good workflow in making sure all my track levels are balanced acrossed the whole set. Do you have a video that discusses this? Thanks!
what I do to make sure things are balanced is I switch the metronome up to a level where it's clear. I use the metronome as a reference and make sure that all of my tracks are juuust at the level where they're inaudible under the metronome. And then I turn everything up. YMMV but that's what works best for me. It won't be perfect and it's impossible to completely optimize without an engineer who can adjust for the room you're playing in.
Im enjoying your tutorials very much now that i'm getting back to producing on ableton, keep up the great videos. i'm definitely gonna spread the word about your videos and make sure you get the love this channel deserves.
I'm loving the way you are running this. Just curious... why are you not using Ableton's click? I've downloaded the template, and love the ideas you have.
Hi Brian! Nothing wrong with using Live's click. I personally use a MIDI click, "Foundations" so that I can easily adjust subdivisions, turn on/off accent and change the click sound quickly. I talk a bit about it here: ua-cam.com/video/j1wDQIxik-w/v-deo.html And demo the click here: ua-cam.com/video/joXOlT4VMMA/v-deo.html
Awesome. I had a question about running stereo tracks out of the Audio 4C. Would I be using 2 separate outputs like a 3/4 output? Or would it be a single TRS out that would split into a Left and Right XLR?@@fromstudiotostage
All this sounds great. And clearly works as you seem to be a seasoned expert. But the real question to me half-way through this video is, if im performing live with this sort of linear set up, why am I even using Ableton at all? So I'm not using the session view, which is the entire thing that makes Ableton unique and 'for performance'. From my long experience using traditional linear DAW composition, other DAWs, in particular Reaper as it is near infinitely customisable and routable, is crazy better at all things you describe if we are doing a traditional DAW linear stuff. Surely, this question has come up in your teaching. I'm not knocking your template or system. Seems great and must works given you are a pro at this type of performance. Why should I use Ableton at all for this? I mean that as an honest question. Thanks for the video
I always suggest running tracks in Arrangement View since a song is linear in nature. Within that linear structure you can do the things Ableton is uniquely good at like, Repeating any song section, jumping around the song in time, changing key/tempo in real-time and most importantly not crashing! I spent years using and teaching people to run tracks in Session View because it was made for live performance, before I realized I was spending tons of time trying to make a non-linear view (Session View) play a linear song, and realized I can get all that for free in Arrangement view and save tons of time.
Hey there, thanks so much for the video! Beginner question here, is this session what you run when you play live? Or are you making a seperate live template for each track to then export to a sort of "master" live session where all your tracks live? Thanks!
Love your stuff! I want to be able use Ableton for playback. However, I've ran into a problem. When I opened the template it was set up in 6/8 time. I changed to 4/4 but the markers didn't change accordingly; marker 2 is at 2.3 and marker 3 is at 4. When I added the 4/4 click it sounds twice as long i.e it's in time but it's in 8/4. How do I go about this? What am I doing wrong? Please help.
Hey great video! But you say that 'we'll see that later' in the tempo and marker section and never go back to them. I am building a show and follow your method with your template but since I have tempo changes in most of my songs, I am still without the info to import my tempo track... I have a audio clic track and a midi track (that has tempo data) and adding it to your clic track wont change the tempo (120) at the top or the grid... I'll have to find another way, by hand I guess in the master track. Thanks anyway.
Hi Will, thank you for your tutorials. Subscribed right away. When I downloaded the template the clicks says: media offline when I drag it to the click track. Any ideas? Thank you
I've had a few folks get that on Windows. I'm not sure why. It doesn't happen on Mac. The only other possibility is if you moved the original samples from the template and didn't use Collect All and Save.
I am on Windows as well, and the media files that are missing actually would not extract when I unzipped the files. Is there a way to go get them from the download folder since they wouldn’t unzip?
Thank you for this perfect template. We have a part in the arrangement where we have a slow down. Was wondering if it's possible to make such an automation since it's slowing gradually down and not abruptly? thanks a lot
This setup seems geared more towards traditional band/song type music (chorus, verse, etc) - would you recommend arrangement view for techno folks who work loops too?
If you’re song has a structure I recommend Arrangement View. If your song is loop-based, meaning no structure, then you should use session view. Regardless of style of music. Keep in mind you can still loop and jump around your arrangement in arrangement view, but if you’re using loops to build up a song in real-time, session view is best
Hello :) I'm using Ableton for our Hip-Hop shows but I'm looking forward to improve my workflow. We use Waves Tune Realtime and every song is in the timeline, one after the other. I used to change tempo with automations but I'm going to try using your technique since it's quicker and easier. My question comes ;) How can I change the Waves Tune Realtime key for each song? At the moment I use automations but they tend to reset randomly... I saw a post somewhere telling the user to create an effects rack with 12 instances of the plugin, each set to 1 key and automate the effects rack instead of the plugin. Do you know which method would be quicker and easier?
Are there any good guide cue packs for Ableton out there? I'm having trouble finding if so! We have the cues from Loop Community and Multitracks, but neither set contains all the cues we tend to need. Would love to find a large set to purchase!
Awesome stuff!! Thanks for all of the awesome content on Ableton Live! I have learned a ton. You mentioned dropping in the original MP3 of the song in a track. What are you using to convert your apple music downloads to MP3? If that's info that's divulged in a paid course, let me know that as well. Thanks!
You may need to go into an earlier session where you have the click track and click "collect all and save" - sometimes our audio files that we use in our MIDI (like the click track) are on a different harddrive. If you just click "save" - it doesn't copy those audio files to follow the new session - it just pulls them from the original folder / harddrive. If you click "collect all and save" any time that you make a big change or add new audio files, it ensures that Ableton creates copies of the files into the new session.
I noticed there appears to be a MacOSX version and one that isn't labeled. I do most of my work on my PC desktop. Is there a difference and will I run into an issue going back and forth?
Is the free template you have to download only for Mac users. I downloaded it for PC and it told me that it couldn't download certain Wavs and I kept having to push skip in the download process. Also I told me files were missing when I loaded up the set.
thank you for empowering us all with this valuable skillset
Thanks for hanging around!
I rarely comment on stuff but thank you so much for your help man. You're doing the lords work x
Thanks for watching!
So many great things coming for you this year. I'm particularly excited for sound design Sundays. Really cool.
Thanks Owen!
I don't need your Template! I would like to learn to put it together Bro!

I'm loving the way you are running this. Just curious... why are you not using Ableton's click? I've downloaded the template, and love the ideas you have.
Ableton click and tempo envelope is very invisible, sensitive to errors when by accident shifting the tempo envelope.

Thanks for watching!
I have your tracks templates and love it, but I wanted to add more of the guide words. Any suggestions how to do that so they sound similar?
You’ll have to record new samples. Working on a really cool update that’ll make this even easier

Does this template work for Abelton 12?
How can I get those guide cues ?

Hi! I am trying to get the template but when I click submit on the web form, I am getting an error for load failed.
I didnt see the free template!
you can download here: fromstudiotostage.com/template
Nice content! :D
Do you offer private lessons or Zoom calls?

hey once downloaded, where do i put that template?
Your templates seem to all be in 11. I have 10 :( Do you still have any 10 based templates. I can't open the 11 based ones in 10.
Soon! Only Live 11 right now.
How come your initial 1 - 5 song markers have turned into song sections. I'm a bit confused.
Hi Will, thank you for your tutorials. Subscribed right away. When I downloaded the template the clicks says: media offline when I drag it to the click track. Any ideas? Thank you

Thanks for the Template, why in the Intro template is there 3 guide tracks? 2 of them labeled "Because of Intro"..?
Hey Justin-you’re welcome! Unfortunately Intro is limited in scenes so I can’t keep all those clips in one track.
Thank you for this perfect template. We have a part in the arrangement where we have a slow down. Was wondering if it's possible to make such an automation since it's slowing gradually down and not abruptly? thanks a lot
Yes! Completely possible and I do that often

I can't change the time signature from 6/8 ???? Please help?
you can edit the time signature in Ableton to anything you need via the scrub area

Getting an error when trying to download saying that the file type is unsupported. Using version 12 standard on a Mac. Anything I’m missing?
Hey why is the link to the template no longer available?
This is fixed and working again!

Start with fromstudiotostage.com/cues/ for free and the guide cue player for ultimate control: fromstudiotostage.com/product/guide-cue-player/
Why is the free template opening in 6/8???
you can use the free template in any time signature or tempo. Reach out to support if you have any questions
i just downloaded the free template and extracted it and got a bunch of errors on the extraction... im in windows 10
it's missing the click track audio files
this video and approach is phenomenal though ty

itunes can convert your audio to different formats - you can set your bit rate etc
What midi controller is that you’re using? Thanks
"Oakboard Mini" by Oaktone
Hi there! Do you have any idea why when I drag the Click Tack it says sample offline, even though I do have all the samples in the same folder?

Hi Brian! Yes, Ableton Live is available for Mac and PC. The files are interchangeable.
@@fromstudiotostage why is there two versions of the template?
Is the free template you have to download only for Mac users. I downloaded it for PC and it told me that it couldn't download certain Wavs and I kept having to push skip in the download process. Also I told me files were missing when I loaded up the set.
Why don't you just use Live's click instead of using your built clicks? Is there a specific reason or just preference?
Here's 10 minutes and 39 seconds worth of an answer: ua-cam.com/video/AVucDxnLy6Y/v-deo.html :)
Please talk less and do more on practical thanks man
awesome , thanks mate
No problem 👍
