Me too. First time I really listened to one of her songs is young and beautiful. My soulmate was sleeping and I popped headphones in and played young and beautiful and I couldn't stop looking at my boyfriend while he slept and with the song playing it just hit my soul in a way I hadn't felt in A very long time. I lost my boyfriend to an unexpected over dose 3 years after that and I haven't been able to listen to that song without getting sick 😭
This woman's existence alone is work of art. Her songwriting, her voice, her mind, her thoughts- everything is beyond any words. Love you till the end of time
I was lucky enough to experience Tropico in theater for its one and only limited time release in Hollywood. Lana spoke a few words before the film started. What an amazing experience that was to be a part of. You could hear every person crying at the end full of emotion by its unbelievable beauty and perfection. How special for us all. I still get emotional every time I watch this. It’s just a fucking masterpiece. A true legend of our generation Thank you Lana❤️🌹
I would loose my mind. Like a have full Kim K ugly cry mental meltdown like I almost did in her concerts. Lol so jealous of u. That sounded sooo amazing.
OMG! I was there at the Cineramadome that night as well!!! Waited hours to get free tickets 🎫 but the experience I will NEVER forget seeing this film on that massive silver screen for the first time. And Lana was there as well. 😍
I was 14 when this came out. People didn't get it like they do now. And I didn't realise at the time that I was witnessing music/art history being made. Her art is like fine wine.
@user-pd9wu9ex4i have you considered that maybe this person wasn't aware of Lana Del Rey when this was released? Or that maybe they're young and new to the music industry? Don't be an asshole
When Lana falls it's not just her fainting, but also touching on that part of the Bible which is known as 'The Fall'. Where God (or in this case John's) trust is broken with humans. This short movie is a masterpiece. I love how it also perfectly shows what lots of people believe the fruit from the tree symbolises which is sex. and how in Gods and Monsters it shows a corrupt world that has been driven on this sinful, unholy temptation. The impulses. The animal instincts. At the end it’s “Bel Air”. They remove their black garments in exchange for white, which symbolises purity, and there are cuts into what is a baptism, cleansing the sin and washing it away to start anew, re-appreciating the beauty of the earth that they took for granted before and then ascending to heaven. - after watching it several times it's actually genius and is totally the classic Lana aesthetic.
I don’t think that’s quite right. The proverbial Adam & Eve were sharing in sex before the Fall. Indeed, Elvis, Marilyn, and John Wayne all seemed to be cheering it on. That sex was pure and beautiful. It was explicitly only after biting the apple (getting “too close” to God, as Lana’s voiceover puts it) that takes them out of the Garden of Eden and into the Garden of Evil. It’s the biting of “knowledge”-knowledge of cynicism, corruption, degradation, greed, cruelty, rapaciousness, etc-that sends this Adam & Eve to bleak human reality. The Apple. Knowledge. Not sex.
Me and my 2 best friends went to the premiere of this. Got there at 1230pm and our tickets (free) were for 9pm. We lived in Orange County so there was no way we were going home and coming back. We sat and waited in line for hours. Lana came around 6pm on a red carpet, I got so close to her I could touch her. My best friend gave her a note and Lana gave her a kiss on the cheek. When we finally got into the theater, Lana came out and made a cute little speech. She did this for every viewing. After the last show, she went outside and signed autographs. She truly is amazing and I love her so much!
Im blessed to have witnessed the live shows of Madonna, Prince, George Michael, Pink, Blondie and Lana. The lasting impact of all those magnificent artists will stsy with me forever. I Love them all
Lana Del Rey, to me, is one of the last gems in the current music industry. No one treats their music like art anymore. Her lyrics touch your soul. They tap into your deepest and darkest fantasies. I'm probably one of the only men who has a deep passion for her music. It's just so... mesmerizing. Every song- whether it's "Kinda Out of Luck" or "Damn You" or something from Born To Die- is so fucking amazing. She can make murder sound glamorous. She, literally, has changed my view on life. What a sexy, inspirational woman she is. Can not wait 'til "Ultraviolence" ! I know that it'll be another masterpiece.
Just loud words.. What does "changed my view on life" means? You stopped drinking? You became more careful? The only argument I found in your words is - she is sexy, so what can she teach you only with her sexuality?
ThePlectr I found Pretty Little Liars ' opinion well-stated. Firstly, I'd say that you under-estimated the power of the argument ''she is sexy''. Being confident and aware of your body and sexuality (especially in the genuine way that Lana is) is extremely important in living a healthy life and boosts your self-esteem. But other than that, as stated, Lana treats music like art and her lyrics and music are deep. She helps you connect with your fantasies, love yourself and overcome taboos. She changed my view of life as well as many other people's because she inspired me and helped me accept myself and express freely. She is a beautiful and unique person (on the inside and outside) and the message her music transfers about life is profound and philosophical. I believe that it is clear to see, but, of course, my opinion is as objective as any other.
Lanita I love you, your art gives me goosebumps, you process my entire teenage stage, now I'm 18, I met you at 12 in my most depressive stage and your music really arrived, my daily pill to continue.
This woman knows every dream and hope I have ever had... She knows my deepest, darkest secrets and we've never even met.... I have never been so captured by a person like I am with Lana Del Rey... Her music isn't just amazing and it goes beyond therapy.... She speaks to something stuck so deep inside of me and I come alive... I feel so connected, wild and free, like I know myself.... every song... The way a human being was meant to feel.... I don't stop listening...
i feel you. i dont even know how to describe what her music, lyrics she herself means to me and you said the words that I've been looking for. that's exactly how i feel.... (i'm high and drunk so take these words seriously)
Living in LA at the time of this release and seeing how it took the city by storm was truly magical. Everyone was watching this video and listening to Lana. It was a movement and became a way of life. To this day gives me chills and brings me back to a time in my youth when i was wild and free, gave zero fucks. So grateful for this masterpiece and for this incredible artist that will always have a special place in my heart. A piece of modern day history
Fiona Goode The first are the poems ‘I Sing the Body Electric’ by Walt Whitman and ‘Howl’ by Allen Ginsberg, and then, of course, there’s the John Wayne monologue (co-written by John Mitchum).
@@2004ale oh I know look at riverdale but my guess is that they want the part of Priscillas life from meeting Elvis to his death and that’s from like 14+ Lana doesn’t suit that age
this will played in cinemas all around the world after her death as her tribute...the day when she will become a legend... and from how i've known Lana so far, she would likely prepared an after death record..like "release this record the same day as my funeral..."
How can a masterpiece like this have so few views in comparison to the masses of contrived rubbish that is churned out? This is pure poetry and art, beautiful, eye opening, real, authentic and honest, so I will never stop watching 💜
Lana, I've watched this short film plenty of times and it still gets me. I wish it is a normal film, even if it would be 3 hours long I would still watch it till the end and atleast 10 times. [Intro: Storyteller] And the spirit of John moved upon the face of the waters; And John said "Let there be light" and there was light; And John saw that it was good [Interlude 1: Lana Del Rey] Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us for our sins Creator of all forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins Dear John forgive us our sins Thank you God [Interlude 2: John Wayne, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe & Jesus] I wanna tell you where you're at, you lose me in this campsite, and I'm gonna teach you how to be cowboys; Now, if you wanna be tough cowboys I don't wanna hear ya' crying, I don't wanna hear ya' bellyaching, you gotta get on that horse and ride; (And I guess I'll never find you) And don't be afraid, wear your boats up high, your pant low; (Sex is a part of nature, I go along with the nature) with your head in a good way, (You're always on my mind, you're always on my mind) And when you get on there don't be jerkin' on it, just ride nice and soft You can do it; (Earth is missing, distant from us) I believe in ya', ride with the wind, (Oh I must have you, or no one) (Forgive us, distant...) don't complain and never say you're sorry, sorry is a sign of weakness, (Forgive us intense, please forgive those distant...) I don't want you go back to your mama because I'll run you back out (And lead us not into temptation) (I want you to kiss me) (I love you) You're a good kid, all you lil' cowboy will do a good job for me make sure you do it children, 'cause I'll be watching you (Life can change on a dime, sometimes you just have to gain) (Yeah baby, that's what it is, that is what is all about) (Amen) Don't forget, I'll write to your mama (I don't lie) [Body Electric] (Noooo) [Interlude 3: Lana Del Rey & Elvis Presley] I sing the Body electric; The armies of those I love engirt me, and I engirt them; They will not let me off till I go with them, respond to them, (Man you've got to be crazy!) And discorrupt them, and charge them full with the charge of the Soul [Interlude 4: Lana Del Rey] Womanhood, and all that is woman - and the man that comes from woman The womb, the tits, nipples, breast-milk, tears, laughter, weeping, love-looks, love-perturbations and rising The voice, articulation Language Whispering, shouting aloud Food, drink, pulse, digestion, sweat, sleep Walking, swimming, poise on the hips Leaping, reclining, embracing, arm-curving and tightening The continual changes of the flex of the mouth And around the eyes The skin, the sun-burnt shade, freckles, hair The curious sympathy one feels, when feeling with the hand the naked meat of the body The circling rivers, the breath, and breathing it in and out The beauty of the waist, and thence of the hips, and thence downward toward the knees The thin red jellies within you or within me - the bones and the marrow in the bones The exquisite realization of health; Oh I say, these are not the parts and poems of the Body only, but of the Soul Oh I say now, these are the Soul! [Gods and Monsters] (Oh I must have you, or no one) [Spoken 1: Lana Del Rey & Shaun Ross] - "You know it's not always gonna be this way, right?" - "Yeah.." - "So just chill, alright?" - "Mhmm" - "Alright.." - "Yeah." (Just remember, I'm always there for ya') [Dialog: Birthday Party w/ Strippers] In honor of Jack's birthday tonight, I thought bring somebody here tonight that Jack can jack off to. (Laughs) No, with seriousness, are you ready? Ladies... (All the money, feel my temperature rising) [Interlude 5: Lana Del Rey] I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked Dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix Angel-headed hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night Who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of cold-water flats floating across the tops of cities contemplating jazz Who bared their brains to Heaven under the El and saw Mohammedan angels staggering on tenement roofs illuminated Who passed through universities with radiant cool eyes hallucinating Arkansas and Blake-light tragedy among the scholars of war Who were expelled from the academies for crazy & publishing obscene odes on the windows of the skull Who cowered in unshaven rooms in underwear, burning their money in wastebaskets and listening to the Terror through the wall Who got busted in their pubic beards returning through Laredo with a belt of marijuana for New York Who ate fire in paint hotels or drank turpentine in Paradise Alley, death, or purgatoried their torsos night after night With dreams, with drugs, with waking nightmares [Robbery] And so, from being created in his likeness, to being banished for wanting to be too much like him, we were cast out, and the garden of Eden transformed in to the garden of Evil Los Angeles, The city of Angels, A land of Gods and Monsters, The in-between realm where only the choices made from your free will, will decide your souls final fate Some poets called it the entrance to the Underworld, but on some summer nights, it could feel like Paradise, Paradise Lost [Interlude 1 - Variation: Lana Del Rey] Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins Master of the Universe, creator of all forgive us our sins Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John [Spoken 2: John Wayne] You ask me why I love her? Well give me time, I'll explain Have you ever seen a Kansas sunset or an Arizona rain? Have you ever drifted on a bayou down Louisiana way? Or watched a cold fog come drifting in over San Francisco Bay? Have you heard a bobwhite calling in the Carolina pines Or heard the bellow of a diesel at the Appalachia mines? Does the call of Niagara thrill you when you hear her waters roar? Or do you look with awe and wonder, Massachusetts shore Brave new men who stepped on Plymounth's rock? And do you think of them when you stroll along a New York City dock? Have you seen a snowflake drifting in the Rockies, way up high? Or seen the sun come blazing down from a bright Nevada sky? Do you hail to the Columbia as she rushes to the sea Or bow your head at Gettysburg at our struggle to be free? You ask me why I love her? I've got a million reasons why: It's my beautiful America, beneath God's wide, wide sky [Bel Air] [Instrumental Outro]
something about Lana gives me chills... she doesnt even have to open her mouth! she has an old hollywood glamour that I find mesmerizing! could watch her for hours! the best thing to happen to the music industry in years!
I really want this to get the credit and recognition it deserves… she’s truly so amazing and i am so admirable of her mind. The way she seems to effortlessly capture different walks of life and tying it all back together. The way she was able to portray the message/ story through her voice in song, poetry and cinematography is something that should be studied. People have been so quick to jump the gun to cancel her but didn’t realize that masterpiece’s like this are what she was referring to. People are so quick to overlook and discredit her impact and artistry but don’t actually get into this kind of material. Lana del Rey, you are a gem and will forever be appreciated and respected by your fans worldwide even though sometimes it can feel like the opposite. We love you girl!
This was filled with such grace and beauty it brought me to tears at its finish. Clearly only someone who knows the darkest struggles of the soul could create something that so efficiently and creatively embodies the equally euphoric and yet excruciating moments of true reflection on ones hedonistic rebellion. Such a beautiful work of art to share with the ones who feel its grasp the most. Thank you for this.

A true legend of our generation
Thank you Lana❤️🌹
I would loose my mind. Like a have full Kim K ugly cry mental meltdown like I almost did in her concerts. Lol so jealous of u. That sounded sooo amazing.
That’s so epic.
What really. You saw this on theatre.. Omg I'm jealous
OMG! I was there at the Cineramadome that night as well!!! Waited hours to get free tickets 🎫 but the experience I will NEVER forget seeing this film on that massive silver screen for the first time. And Lana was there as well. 😍
UR SO LUCKYYYY OMG
she is art. her thoughts are art. her music is art. her life is art.
She is art🖤
Lmao she’s ACTING like a Latina. So you should say Mexican culture is art
Exactly
And life imitates art

-
after watching it several times it's actually genius and is totally the classic Lana aesthetic.
I agree, her aesthetic is superb of the classics.
The Apple. Knowledge. Not sex.
"Heaven is a place on earth with you" it makes so much sense after seeing this movie
+Sam Raufer its also a line in the movie "Lolita"
+Christian Recinos yeah, but it makes sense now as in lanas art
To have lived though the Lana era is a blessing, love her so much!
It’s amazing how you can really follow the storyline
Me and my 2 best friends went to the premiere of this. Got there at 1230pm and our tickets (free) were for 9pm. We lived in Orange County so there was no way we were going home and coming back. We sat and waited in line for hours. Lana came around 6pm on a red carpet, I got so close to her I could touch her. My best friend gave her a note and Lana gave her a kiss on the cheek. When we finally got into the theater, Lana came out and made a cute little speech. She did this for every viewing. After the last show, she went outside and signed autographs. She truly is amazing and I love her so much!
I'm not catolic, but I respect all religions and this was pure art, so I think I found my religion, it's actually Lana Del Rey.

Ikr. Gods and Monsters is my favourite and the best imo.
You are NOT one of the only men. This girl is fantastic.
No way dude. I freaking love Lana Del Rey. I SING her songs all of the time, let alone listen to them. *sighs* :D

[Intro: Storyteller]
And the spirit of John moved upon the face of the waters;
And John said "Let there be light" and there was light;
And John saw that it was good
[Interlude 1: Lana Del Rey]
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us for our sins
Creator of all forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins
Dear John forgive us our sins
Thank you God
[Interlude 2: John Wayne, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe & Jesus]
I wanna tell you where you're at, you lose me in this campsite, and I'm gonna teach you how to be cowboys;
Now, if you wanna be tough cowboys I don't wanna hear ya' crying, I don't wanna hear ya' bellyaching, you gotta get on that horse and ride; (And I guess I'll never find you)
And don't be afraid, wear your boats up high, your pant low; (Sex is a part of nature, I go along with the nature)
with your head in a good way, (You're always on my mind, you're always on my mind)
And when you get on there don't be jerkin' on it, just ride nice and soft
You can do it; (Earth is missing, distant from us)
I believe in ya', ride with the wind, (Oh I must have you, or no one) (Forgive us, distant...)
don't complain and never say you're sorry, sorry is a sign of weakness, (Forgive us intense, please forgive those distant...)
I don't want you go back to your mama because I'll run you back out (And lead us not into temptation) (I want you to kiss me) (I love you)
You're a good kid, all you lil' cowboy will do a good job for me
make sure you do it children, 'cause I'll be watching you
(Life can change on a dime, sometimes you just have to gain) (Yeah baby, that's what it is, that is what is all about) (Amen)
Don't forget, I'll write to your mama (I don't lie)
[Body Electric]
(Noooo)
[Interlude 3: Lana Del Rey & Elvis Presley]
I sing the Body electric;
The armies of those I love engirt me, and I engirt them;
They will not let me off till I go with them, respond to them, (Man you've got to be crazy!)
And discorrupt them, and charge them full with the charge of the Soul
[Interlude 4: Lana Del Rey]
Womanhood, and all that is woman - and the man that comes from woman
The womb, the tits, nipples, breast-milk, tears, laughter, weeping, love-looks, love-perturbations and rising
The voice, articulation
Language
Whispering, shouting aloud
Food, drink, pulse, digestion, sweat, sleep
Walking, swimming, poise on the hips
Leaping, reclining, embracing, arm-curving and tightening
The continual changes of the flex of the mouth
And around the eyes
The skin, the sun-burnt shade, freckles, hair
The curious sympathy one feels, when feeling with the hand the naked meat of the body
The circling rivers, the breath, and breathing it in and out
The beauty of the waist, and thence of the hips, and thence downward toward the knees
The thin red jellies within you or within me - the bones and the marrow in the bones
The exquisite realization of health;
Oh I say, these are not the parts and poems of the Body only, but of the Soul
Oh I say now, these are the Soul!
[Gods and Monsters]
(Oh I must have you, or no one)
[Spoken 1: Lana Del Rey & Shaun Ross]
- "You know it's not always gonna be this way, right?"
- "Yeah.."
- "So just chill, alright?"
- "Mhmm"
- "Alright.."
- "Yeah."
(Just remember, I'm always there for ya')
[Dialog: Birthday Party w/ Strippers]
In honor of Jack's birthday tonight, I thought bring somebody here tonight that Jack can jack off to. (Laughs)
No, with seriousness, are you ready? Ladies...
(All the money, feel my temperature rising)
[Interlude 5: Lana Del Rey]
I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked
Dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix
Angel-headed hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night
Who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of cold-water flats floating across the tops of cities contemplating jazz
Who bared their brains to Heaven under the El and saw Mohammedan angels staggering on tenement roofs illuminated
Who passed through universities with radiant cool eyes hallucinating Arkansas and Blake-light tragedy among the scholars of war
Who were expelled from the academies for crazy & publishing obscene odes on the windows of the skull
Who cowered in unshaven rooms in underwear, burning their money in wastebaskets and listening to the Terror through the wall
Who got busted in their pubic beards returning through Laredo with a belt of marijuana for New York
Who ate fire in paint hotels or drank turpentine in Paradise Alley, death, or purgatoried their torsos night after night
With dreams, with drugs, with waking nightmares
[Robbery]
And so, from being created in his likeness, to being banished for wanting to be too much like him, we were cast out, and the garden of Eden transformed in to the garden of Evil
Los Angeles, The city of Angels, A land of Gods and Monsters, The in-between realm where only the choices made from your free will, will decide your souls final fate
Some poets called it the entrance to the Underworld, but on some summer nights, it could feel like Paradise, Paradise Lost
[Interlude 1 - Variation: Lana Del Rey]
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John forgive us our sins
Master of the Universe, creator of all forgive us our sins
Dear John forgive us our sins, dear John
[Spoken 2: John Wayne]
You ask me why I love her? Well give me time, I'll explain
Have you ever seen a Kansas sunset or an Arizona rain?
Have you ever drifted on a bayou down Louisiana way?
Or watched a cold fog come drifting in over San Francisco Bay?
Have you heard a bobwhite calling in the Carolina pines
Or heard the bellow of a diesel at the Appalachia mines?
Does the call of Niagara thrill you when you hear her waters roar?
Or do you look with awe and wonder, Massachusetts shore
Brave new men who stepped on Plymounth's rock?
And do you think of them when you stroll along a New York City dock?
Have you seen a snowflake drifting in the Rockies, way up high?
Or seen the sun come blazing down from a bright Nevada sky?
Do you hail to the Columbia as she rushes to the sea
Or bow your head at Gettysburg at our struggle to be free?
You ask me why I love her? I've got a million reasons why:
It's my beautiful America, beneath God's wide, wide sky

I have to come back every year to this. It’s so beautiful and mesmerizing.
