This is the first proto-build of my large size Ninja Core. I have used this army before online but only in medium battles. This is my attempt to develop it for large size battles. If you bring the trading post you will slip in 50 koku under the limit if you upgrade your naginatas with only defense and armor upgrades and your ninjas with 5 points in blinding grenades, attack, and defense upgrades. I'm thinking about replacing the bow ashigaru with the bow hero and putting in a yari samurai or two also.
This build could also work by replacing the ninjas with bomb throwers so you have more bombs but you'd lose the gap-fill-ability.

I wonder how successful it is against human players.
A lesson in life; You think everything is fine, until ninjas with bombs attack.
Ninjas are the way to beat noob squares and disrupt heavy matchlock builds. You can actually beat the crap out of the usual build of matchlocks and bows with about 8 ninjas, 6 bow cav, nagi sam, general, and 4 cav or so, and just hit them from all areas at once and hit and run.
play hatorri clan, their units has kisho training, using their no-dachi to do flank is super good( since they can hide almost everywhere)
fish if you feel like quitting shogun i would recomend you try a game called "Men Of War: Assault squad" a very underappreciated game ;)

I would recommend Stainless Steel 6.4 or Europa Barbarorum if you quit. It has less players, but it's a lot more strategy with less micro due to longer battles (like history). I don't think Shogun 2 will be ever balanced. The devs just don't fucking care at this point. They just want the money.

@Zfast4you Easy to counter spear blobs with ranged cav. Can't chase them down with spears

Liked your idea on the build might try add a firebomber into my naginata samurai core build i talked about in the last video to see if it can be of a nice help^^.
btw try add some warrior monks for warcry 2 is enough for the task. it will help with moral penalties alot. i love using it with my naginata build :)

Why do peolpe hammer yari? I love them. Yari ashus are my core works great ^_^
nijnjas are like special ops use them for SPECIFIC TASKS only dont expect to stand toe to toe either..so yeah flanking,ambush bombers,last line defense.
And please dont quit haha. Dont know if you've heard about the Gempei War DLC yet but I believe that it has its own separate multiplayer, which will mean no matchlocks, and will return Shogun to what it should be. Bows, spears, swords, and cav. No cheesing from behind your own men with matchlocks. I'm actaully really excited for it. It does of course cost money though..

@fishsandwichpatrol Was thinking of katana cav originally but my thoughts were that they are 850 koku? light cav is 450? Would you be able to sacrifice more spears for a couple of katana cav or just bring one? Your build does have plenty of cav deterrent though.. hmm.. thinking out loud, but I do agree katana cav would then give you a great opportunity to smash in, group your enemies and then blow them away with your ninjas, interesting. I'm sure you could do the math and come to a solution :)
What about losing one or 2 yari spears and putting in some vanilla light cav. Purpose could be to entice the enemy army to you much like your bows.

Balancing a game is really hard. You can't name a game that was perfectly balanced right from the start.
Only after serious patching games like CS, TF2 or Starcraft became really balanced. Games like Call of Duty have never heard of balance. You should really appreciate that there are even patches coming out. And be happy that you haven't played RTW in mp, that is unbalanced as hell.
tested 2x firebombers in my naginata samurai spear build and i won 2 times again. so far it have had 5x wins in 5 tests. last win was annoying as it was a katanacav spammer battle took 1 hour., he just ran away.. when myspears came close. had to set ambushes and try out micro him..
fish if you get Spear network clanspecialtion retainer its very fun . I think it helps alot in my wins. as i abit smaller looses in general ^^
too much micro managing... looks decent against AI player, but human player would behave in a different manner, could be tricky. interesting concept though, will try to do acouple of battles, using ninja core myself...
ya i do that and the general still goes up ahead and they get all out of wack

used it 5 times and i have not notice that i get back any veterance after a battle. But as i seen it i think it has some facters for less casualties from arows/matchlocks and in melee.I had a bow general attack my vanila naginata samurai last game and only 2-3 soldiers died each volley, rather minmal from a fully upgraded bow general. and against sword units i think they hold out abit longer aswell. maybe iam thinking to much about it. more testing might be appropiate for me
@SalvatorTW actually they're trying to instate a prestige system for 10 stars. This system would seperate the 10 stars into bronze silver and gold prestige (obviously gold is higher than bronze). Once you reach the beginning of the next prestige your avatar will reset, but you'll keep all your veteran units and indeed gain another 10 veteran slots. You would only play players in the same prestige if you compete in the prestige system. It looks really really cool.
Hey Fish you should try to bring 1 or 2 Naginata warrior monk who can use war cary in order to bomb there moral even more.
What retainers would you recommend? Since they are you core would you go with a samurai/sword focused retainer setup or a spear focused one?
Rush in with four groups of archers or so, and you make it rain. Walk the Ashigaru and Katana up behind the Bow Ashigaru and have the bows begin a skirmish. Put the Kisho's between the Yari Ashigaru and the Katana or No Daichi. When they rush in for the Bow Ashigaru, send in the Yari to hold a line and start a mass line up or cluster fuck. Then, Enable sneak and walk up, blow up the yari ashigaru line with smoke and regular bombs, and then after the smoke connects you want the katana rushing in
the problem is almost any unit in the game has numerical advantage over ninjas,melee? no thanks I have spear Ash and katanas for that.beside the guy was asking how to use ninjas in the bf effectively.
Something like this happened to me, i was vsing some guy, he had ninjas, didnt even know, he i believe, walked them the entire way to the back of my units, bombs, and then attacked his force, and i lost.
Hey fishy, I've tried a ninja core similar to this one before but the ninja's get spotted by good players who scout or have a spotter unit. I've tried an all out Blitz attack strategy which work 60% of the time (naginata, ninjas and yari cavalry) The naginatas and cavalry distract the player by attacking from all sides while I use the ninja's to take out the general and missle units. Looking forward to see how you tweak your build so I can tweak mine :D
im just saying but to be safe you should have put your ninjas in later so that they wouldn't have gotten as many losses

Oh and another thing, when you say that the blinding grenades turned the tide for you, actually it was more his general dying at that exact moment. You can see the decorative ornament disappear from the top of his avatars banner.
I always find it impossible to win battles were they have lvl 5 vets because your units cant beat them in combat
@fishsandwichpatrol Nice one, I think it would be even more difficult then micro'ing some cav alongside your bombs, bows, spears etc but if executed well, would be delightful ^^

which retainers are you using? I dont know if I should buff my naginatas or my ninjas

Hey I haven't played this game in quite a while, can you tell me what's the purpose of matchlock infantry? is it worth it?
Also what's the difference between yari and naginata?

Yari are Spears, they are only good against horses. Naginata are Spears with sword shaped endings. They are weaker against horses but better against Infantry
I'm not sure about matchlock Inf. I like bows better because of their range. The matchlock I think are better at demoralizing the enemy and they are much more accurate

matchlocks are extremely powerful but have a shorter range than bows and need to have a straight line of fire

i'm not a very good player thats why i ask how do you use ninjas in battle in campaign and how do you attack at night or is that only on certain maps

@fishsandwichpatrol You could try putting the ninjas out in front of the naginatas, that could circumvent the friendly fire penalty, or leave gaps enough between each naginata to squeeze a ninja squad between. This is a cool build and I think it could still work with only a few tweaks.

Modern or Traditional units?
Modern in flat terrain. Just whip out a bunch of gun units and a cannon/Gatling and back it up with some Katana Kachi.
Traditional are better when LOS is not easy to get.
