  • Build a nice shop or man-cave radio out of an old Army ammo box. For around 100.00 dollars.
Pioneer stereo with Kenwood speakers makes a pretty good shop radio.
Step by step DIY project. If you cant buy a decent shop radio just build one.
See links below for all items used. Price may change over time.

I like this idea. Maybe I can do the same thing with an old ammo can that is 2 feet tall. Except I would run the power cables from the tractor battery. I have an old car radio that has a tape and CD player.

Dang, that's actually clever, I've been thinking about using a car radio as a micro HiFi system with external speakers, might actually try to do this, maybe with some lead acid batteries to make it portable

You know I've tried old Yamaha surround sound units, and several others that I've either been given, or picked up for next to nothing at garage sales.
Tried numerous antennas inside, as well as outside, and like yourself I can't get any stations to really come in well enough to even bother with trying to listen to them.
I use to hook up to the auxiliary on the back, and use the headphones jack on my phone to play music on Pandora.
Which worked OK, but after several songs they would phase the music, because I wasn't liking,or disliking the songs.
Which is irritating, because it happened every time I was busy doing something, and would have to stop walk across the shop to click on darn things to get it to play something for a little while.
I've got four speakers spread out into the corners, and sub that sound decent considering where it is.
I believe I've got couple old car turners, and even a couple old amps along with the old pull out metal antennas from some of the cars I use to restore around here somewhere too.
Don't have the 12V DC power supply, but shouldn't be too hard to locate one that have enough juice to power it all up with, and probably take a little more than 2 or 3 amps to supply enough amps.
But I tend to run grinders and do a little fabrication beatin bangin type work, and I'm bout half deaf, and it takes a little more volume than you need round y'all's shop.
But shouldn't be too much to buy something to handle it.
Take care and nice idea you have there, and I think I'll see if I can take it a step or two further based on what you have.
    Take care

Thank you Tim. If you need more power. An old PC power supply are very good for projects.
