  • Julia Hartley-Brewer blasts pop star Lizzo’s ‘body positivity’ stance as “celebrating obesity”.
This comes after three backup dancers have accused the singer of sexual harassment and body shaming in a new lawsuit.
Julia says: “I find her and her dancers' bodies physically repulsive… I don’t think we should tell young women that being obese is great. It’s not!”

As a teenager I was body shamed which was nuts thinking about it now, I was a size 14 I was healthy I did not eat or drink junk food, but I was made to feel I was grossly over weight to the point I stoped eating, all I did was drink, we has school lunches when I was a teenager, so when I got home I told Mom I had a big lunch at school, so I did not need dinner/supper this went on for almost a year, weekends were the hardest, if I could get away with it I would say I ate out at me friends place if not I had to eat. I nearly died because of the bulling, the worst part was my bones became brittle I suffered two broken arms 3 times and a broken leg. I was placed on a food drip for 6 months and underwent extensive treatment during that time. I am now 60 years old and to this day I can only eat once a day, I love cooking but I still don’t enjoy eating. I have been known to go for days without food, and only drink coffee all day. I force myself to eat every day because if I don’t it also means Dad is not eating either.
I have a love hate relationship with food and I will alway have this, but I will never go without food in the same way as I did as a teenager.
Body positive was never meant to be proud of yourself when you are so obese that it looks repulsive, more so when you dress it all up like a lamb chop smothered in gravy and mint jelly. Body positive was never meant to be proud of yourself when you look like a living breathing skeleton, where one puff of wind would send you flying like the leaves being tossed in the wind in the autumn leaves.
Body positive was meant to allow you to see yourself to love your self enough to loss the weight at your own pace or most of all love yourself enough to see you your self and not all those models on the catwalk who starve themselves to a point because the camera adds on 10 pounds. Love yourself enough so you are never scared of eating a meal.

THEN on my own I started deep breathing and dancing (alone) to my fave tunes. This relaxed me which made me happier which made me start eating. No one had any understanding so I realised that was a dead end. My tunes are Beyonce bills bills and Beyonce bugaboo. I love Joni Mitchell she is a maestro and I listen to Ricky Gervais who puts in into perspective. Other people can fuck you up. So get onto it and entertain your self eat well and yes don’t feel guilty if you have a day if coffee. It’s all ok. Look after yourself. I love Kelly Jay on utube as she looks after women and girls who look after boys and men ( bit like you). I am going to vote for her when she gets her party together. I am happy for the first time ever in my life at 66. I feel like I have been asleep my whole life and just pleasing other people not no more. So no regrets smile breath eat put music on.😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘

Would always ask of we'd eaten or they'd always have food for us. I get that it's a culture thing but overfeeding us didn't do alot of good. I am sick of people fannying about and saying its up to the individual, yes they are responsible, but it doesn’t just affect them. I have severe kidney disease due to an autoimmune condition, when I go the clinic, I am often the only one of a normal weight. The 2 main causes of kidney disease are now diabetes and high blood pressure, both a nearly 100% lifestyle disease. So when I need dialysis or a transplant, I will be waiting in a queue which is much longer than it need be. One third of people with diabetes have kidney disease that’s approx. 2 million people who are ill due to nothing more than bad eating habits and lack of exercise. Roy Taylor at university of Newcastle has discovered the exact mechanism that triggers diabetes, the level of FAT in your liver and gallstone, a study of 20,000 people he did with the NHS proved that the vast majority of people can reverse their diabetes with simple weight loss. In addition to kidney disease, diabetes is also the leading cause of blindness, amputation, contributes greatly to heart disease, and strokes. Let’s get real and tell people they need to put down the knife and fork.never mind celebrating them.

I think the only reason people put up with those feelings - and worse - is that they've given up trying to lose weight and are trying to spin it that they don't care. So I’m disappointed that it’s not being mentioned because I think the media are just taking the easiest way to gain viewership without analyzing the case.

I've struggled with my weight since 8 years old. I was normal weight until then. My mother came to the school and made such a scene, I was then shunned and bullied by other students. In addition to being abuse in the household, I had no escape, no resiliency, I turned to food. I'm not so big you'd notice me and I've grateful I never got so large Leave people alone, you never know what they have endured. But celebrating? No effing way! I'd give anything to have not developed at eating disorder by 8. It's been my life long comfort. I'm even plant based for many, many years.

Some people are naturally fat. I was brought up in the 1960s UK and even kids from poor families could be fat. And 60s kids didn't live on a diet of sweets and huge servings of food. Money was extremely tight, it was Rob Peter to pay Paul a lot of the time, and everything was cooked from fresh. And kids were outside all day being active, but still there were fat kids BECAUSE IT'S IN THEIR GENES. Simple as that

I was always bullied and put down because I was little and skinny. I couldn’t put weight on whatever I did. Yes, I was embarrassed by it. Preferred to keep my top on and wear baggy tops. Now, because I can’t exercise much due to an accident, I’m still short, but probably carry a bit more weight than I should. Bit of a podge and manboobs and still embarrassed, but not willing to accept the snide, nasty comments anymore.

Not long ago I saw an article about a man who went to his Doctor about his weight problem. No matter what he did he was unable to lose fat around his middle. The Doctor, like many Doctors before him told the young man he should try to exercise and he would lose weight. The young man told the Doctor that he ran several miles a day, everyday and that he had participated in marathons. The Doctor was clearly was sceptical till the young man pulled his medals from all the marathons he had participated in. Just because someone is fat does not mean that they do not exercise or that they are Couch potatoes sitting stuffing themselves. Nor is all skinny people anorexic or bulimic. Folk should stop judging when they don’t even know the person. If you have nothing good to say then don’t bother saying it.

15 yrs ago I broke my kneecap, the physio to start walking again started with swimming and moving knees, then progressed to the gym.
No fat person ever made it to the gym - they were left semi immobile, with crutches or wheelchair, for the rest of their lives. The damaged knees could not carry all the weight.
It made me realise that being fat was a health issue, not a feminist issue.

    It's genetic.
Overweight people lack self control and as a result are prone to flying off the handle in the most outrageous manner.
Those same instincts can mean they are also very gregarious, sociable and a lot of fun.
But they are prone to mood swings.
My advice is; be aware, watch out for a fatty's temper and stay out of wobbling distance.

Imagine young girls starving themselves to look too skinny...to exercise too much to achieve that look. Be who you are happy to be...don't idolize others popstars either anorexia or 'obese.
