  • If you’re like most people, weeding is one of the biggest challenges in maintaining your garden. Weeds steal water and nutrients from your plants, harbor insects, shade and crowd your vegetables, and are an eyesore. Despite the time and expense of applying mulch or weed block, weeds often still find a way into the garden. Now, Tertill offers a better way.
    Created by roboticist Joe Jones - inventor of the Roomba - Franklin Robotics’ Tertill is a robot designed to live in your garden and take care of the weeding, come rain or shine.

    lost me at 100 sq feet, i was stoked to get my hands on one but only a 10x10 area not going to cut it ( no pun intended) 1:48
    i think if they can get it to 400-500 sq feet they will have a winner for vegetable gardeners .

      I agree. I hope with their introduction to the lawnmower market iRobot consider picking this type of tech up. I would much rather this be battery power and dock up to recharge. If someone is really so concerned about the environment or whatever then they can power the charger with a solar panel lol. A nice big one that can manage some more go. Also the newer mapping technology would greatly improve efficiency to avoid doubling over the same area.

    • @RicoElectrico
      @RicoElectrico 4 роки тому

      Well, if you're a human gardener, even if you pull the root, the weeds return after some time when their seeds land again. Having a robot do a task the human way is not efficient and vice versa. For example, do you wash your dishes manually by spraying them with hot water for an hour? This robot is supposed to be kept in the garden all the time, hence it can just cut the weeds every day.

    Heaven forbid your 10x10 foot garden (which is pretty small actually) grows so much to shade the solar cells on turtle. Like all gardens will certainly do by early summer, or earlier. Unless, of course, you like a garden which is mostly bare dirt.....
    Here is the proven analog solution to weeds: compost and mulch. And guess what, that is free. Toss your lawn cutting on your garden.

    Да чушь, пацаны. Что это за логика - если высокий, значит сорняк, если низкий, значит нет? У вас там лебеда растёт в заграницах? А сныть? Сныть растёт? А у нас растёт.
    Пока ваш красивый и умный гаджет будет искать в огороде зарядку, ночью наша сныть вырастет на полметра. В худшем случае, найдёт борщевик и зверски оплодотворит его. И, честно, ребята, я не завидую вашей Тортилле, подозреваю что она будет пестовать мутантов как родных детей, безжалостно уничтожая невинные томаты, картофель и прочие паслёновые.
    И что дальше? Продовольственный кризис? Господство сныти и всеобщий голод? Конец цивилизации. Остановитесь, ещё не поздно! Еще только 21 июня 41-го года!

    This is going to fail very badly. Why? Because it only cuts the weed. Therefore, it will re-grow in just a few days. The other thing is, it is useful only in gardens that haven't got any plants on, otherwise Tertill will just get stuck between a few plants. So I say, the ide is good to have a weed killer robot, but not like this.

    • @ComprehensiveContext
      @ComprehensiveContext 7 років тому +11

      They point out that constantly cutting a weed while it's small will kill it, because at some point the plant runs out of stored energy. In other words, the weed will never get "a few days" to grow.
      Your point about its ability to be effective in a dense garden is a good one, however.
      I'm more concerned about theft. It would be so easy to pick one up, jump in the car and drive away.
