    I tightened the barrel and gave it a good clean ,then upgraded the bottle with the 1100 psi regulated one from best fittings , topped of with a red dot and am now getting just under 11flb with 2p size grouping using jsb pellets . Its a nice little rat stopper out to 20 mtrs

    £500 for a plinker it’s silly money. I can’t imagine anyone who buys it would not feel ripped off. If I could only use it on tin cans, I’d buy the Crosman SBR £280 and spend the the other £220 on beer to give me a nice supply of cans to shoot at. Stay safe everyone.

    The 1200 psi warning probably refers to the regulated pressure going into the gun. Tweak that bottle for more power, and you'll break parts inside that action. Nice trigger demo from Mrs. AAR.

    You give REALLY great in-depth reviews ( unlike pretty much every other non-baselined UA-cam "review" ). I sincerely appreciate that you have taken the time to show accuracy ( or the lack of it ), and consitency ( again, the lack of it ) as well as little things like " You have to push the trigger forward ". This is easily the ** BEST ** review I've seen for this rifle, and it absolutely affects my buying decision ( which is a hard pass ).

    want to refute some things.. first you can raise the energy level by using an air bottle of higher pressure, i'm using 1200 psi and getting a consistent 12FPE.. also a silencer CAN be used, the barrel end is threaded. Third and final, with the suppressor, i'm getting consistent 1 inch groups @ 50 meters. USA version

    I have one and I can't say anything bad about it. In my country is semi auto and it's a really fun gun for plinking and/or pest control. You can customized it in everything, laser, scopes, holographics, flashlight, extra picatinny rails, etc. and of course the look is...incredible. If you want to have fun with rapid shoots practice, this is the one.

      Same here. The problem is the British Gun Law. I am pretty sure this gun looks completely different in the US. By the way, what kind of stupid solution is that trigger mechanics!? I could understand the modification if it was really a 12 foot pounds weapon. But it is not. But even if that was the case, I would rather have to reload the gun with the charging handle all the time than doing this ridiculous finger motion every time.

    I have this model, and I'm working on all the issues that this test and review has revealed. I think some silicone lubrication in the belt channels inside the magazine might help lighten the trigger pull. Maybe faux moderator encasing the petal muzzle break might add a little weight to resolve some inaccuracy and social unrest in these uncertain times. Ive encased the air tank in a padded sleeve that conceals the manometer. Topped with a red dot scope and built in laser it looks like you wouldn't want to argue with anyone holding it.
    The muzzle break does unscrew, but its not 1/2" standard screw thread.

    While I do adore my firearms I also am a fan of air guns (not classed as weapons in the US even my .22 cal that tosses 20gr pellets over 1200fps) for essentially all the reasons you mentioned in your why airguns video. So keep it up I do really enjoy watching your videos they are both informative and entertaining.

    This was the most disappointing airgun I have ever bought. In fact, it was so terrible that I destroyed it, I didn’t have the courage to resell it.
    First, it jams a lot, depending on the pellets. And when it jams it’s really difficult to take of the mag. The less problematic pellets were the H&N Field Target Trophy. And yes I used the provided tool to sit the pellets.
    Second, the trigger weights a ton because it has to move the belt with the pellets. That would affect accuracy if the gun wasn’t already inaccurate.
    Third, total lack of accuracy, up to a point that even at 20m you will get the most terrible groupings, with shots as much as 15cm apart. And that happens because the pellet holder in the belt has four interior protrusions to fix the pellet by cutting into it!
    This has to be the most stupid decision you can make in any type of gun: Change the shape of the projectile when loading it.
    Fourth, it’s made of really cheap plastic, I broke the butt pad just by over tightening it a little bit.
    I have no idea what they had in mind when they produced this crappy toy.
    Every single customer should be refunded and compensated for the terrible experience

    As a consumer journalist myself, I've got to applaud your honesty there Andy. I was also excited about this thing. Sure it wouldn't take Werner Von Braun to sort a trigger-spring but... oh my Siggy aunt! I guess it's nowt to do with the barrel, but the loading/shifting-belt system must have air blowing out all over the show. When all the best airgun manufacturers have retreated from trying to make an accurate semi-auto airgun, consider it a message sent. Had I shelled out £500 I'd have a seriously Sauer taste in my mouth.

    • @oscarkilby4033
      @oscarkilby4033 4 роки тому

      I think thats more due to the available markets being smaller than those for a bolt action. Also because a semi auto airgun would require a double action trigger to operate the bolt which wouldn't be as good as the triggers in bolt action guns.
      Ofc the trigger is the smallest cause of accuracy issues in this gun. But if you could do it with a regular bolt gun running a similar mag system you could get some excellent potential out of it.

    Andy,
    Very accurate review (the only thing about this rifle that is 'accurate') - I have one, and it is a disappointment.
    The butt pad has cracked at the top (too much pressure on it when you tighten it against the bottle.) NOT a warranty issue they say.
    Remember SIGs strapline "shoots like a SIG, because it is one"
    Oh dear.
    And - it's LOUD - as you say, if you can't fit a silencer|moderator, you will scare off any quarry, not good if you can't hit it.
    Thanks for another great show, Andy.

    Hi Andy , Iam one of your biggest fans . But today Iam dismayed 😩 about this Review today . You don't seem to like anything about this Rifle ? .
    I tried to buy one 2 weeks ago through a friend in the trade ? But they where sold out everywhere ✅ Next batch available is May ? . So why are they selling out fast if there a load of Rubbish ? ... I have SIG SAUER P326 Pistol , after first using it I found it to be pellet fussy 😭. It using the same belt system . But when I got the right pellet ! Boy did that change things , more power and accuracy. Please give this SIG RIFLE ANOTHER REVIEW, AND WHEN YOU GET THE RIGHT PELLET, let's see those figures. I love and appreciate all Air guns /rifles and find this review out of sorts from you Andy . I love the looks and potential of the rifle . Thank for your Review . Cheers Simon ....

      Not sure what Andy has gotten wrong, it's the third review I've seen of it (1 of an American version and 2 UK versions) and they have all made the same conclusions. Great for plinking but inadequate for hunting. Sure you may find a pellet to group slightly better but there's not much you can do regarding the low power. I also cannot see how the belt mechanism can ever be as accurate as a pellet that is probed into the barrel.
      Reeves airgun channel has done a series of videos on his UK Sig and tried various ways of improving it which sounds like a good watch for you if you haven't seen it already.
      I hear Sig are already working on improvements so maybe wait for MK2? Anyway good luck in your search and hope you have better luck if you get hold of one.

      I'm presuming that SIG aren't fussy about the quality of rifle they've allowed to be made under licence by this maker. Shame, as you say the P326 and my M17 appear to be on another level but this may be due to a different licenced maker. Perhaps as the pistols are used as training models in the US forces and law enforcement then they had to get those models spot-on.

      Anyways this is my airarms s310 made around 1996 shot today over a fx crony with airarms field 8.4 grain pellets, it's doing around 10.5 fpe with these but its does 11.5 with 10.6 grain pellets anyways for a 25+ year old gun I'd say that's quite good and you will get the exact same result with a s410, s510 and it too will last 25+ years if looked after of course, the sig on the other hand is trash straight from the box and will definitely be in landfill in 25 years if not 3.

Feels really well built and good quality, plus putting accessories on it is good fun. This air rifle is much more than just a back garden plinker. One more thing, the charging handle is fully functional and the gun won't shoot without using the charging handle. I know a lot of people say it's just for show which confuses me, because its simply not. You can de cock the virtus PCP by pulling back the charging handle, then pulling the trigger and letting go of the charging handle. Hope this has helped at least someone :)

    Just for info the muzzle brake unscrews revealing a 1/2UNEF thread. Best Fittings now make a 1/2UNF converter to fit most air gun moderators. I use a Weihrauch mod and it is much quieter. I agree it’s a plinker but does offer a saving over CO2, and is much more accurate than my old MPX.

I HAD TO TAKE IT APART TIGHTEN ALMOST EVERY SCREW AND LOCK TIGHT IT. THE CLEAN IT AND PUT IT BACK TOGETHER. AND IT WAS ACCULLY VERY VERY ACCURATE. IT IS AT BEST A 1-1.5 INCH AT 50 . I DID SEE A FLUX IN ANYWERE FROM 505 TO 556. I TOOK OUT THE POT METAL BEVEL WASHERS AND PUT HIGH QUALITY ONES IN ITS PLACE . IM NOW AT A FULL 1200 PSI AND GETTING 625-635. WITH JSB 14.3 AND A RESPECTFUL 570- 600 IN JSB 15.89. IT NEEDS WORK AND THE QUALITY CONTROL HAS TO BE TOTALLY WORKED ON. I WISH AND HOPE THAT I CAN UPGRADE IT TO 20-25 FTLBS. I saw a lot of complaints regarding reliability of these MCX replicas. Plenty of reports stating their seals go frequently, jam and have issues with internals going bad without any ability for Sig to send replacement parts. Some guys were on their second or third gun after just a few hundred rounds. I love the tactical look, even if it’s just for target shooting for fun, but such a price point I would expect some pretty decent quality control. Especially so when the likes of Gamo can offer such solid and well performing budget PCP’s like the GX 40/250.

    I've found my Virtus to be very pellet sensitive, when I first used it with JSB Exact Jumbo it was all over the place, the groups looked like I was using a shotgun! It was so bad I sent it back to get it checked. However when I got it back and tested several different pellets I found the best and most consistent where H&N Sport Field Target Trophy 14.66g & Accupell F.T. 14.66g with inch groups at 20 yards. Trying the RWS Hobby flat head the group was more consistent but the zero was way off where both the H&N and Accupell where. Energy with the 14.66g is 9.2Ftlbs. In essence I've found it to be very fickle with ammo. Not the rifle I hoped for but fun none the less.

    I have the MPX CO2, similar gun but more of a extended pistol than a rifle. Obviously I use it for plinking and target shooting at 20 yards. I surprises me that the PCP (MXC) is so inaccurate as my MPX is very good with an added red dot. Very good review though. To me £500 could be spent on a much better PCP, take the SMC Vista Alpha that you reviewed. £400 and then spend £100 on a decent scope you have a remarkably good set up. Big Dan's review is also a good review of the SMC.

    • @brorjordas1979
      @brorjordas1979 3 роки тому

      Yea. I think the MPX is pretty badass. Got the MCX myself - but I would not now mind owning the MPX model also. I think the shorter MPX inner barrel also might be a bit better made - just because it is a bit shorter one. Just a hunch though. If I by hand push a pellet thru my MCX inner barrel using a stick/rod - the pellet moves lighter thru the mid section of the barrel. Probably a result of the manufacturing process of a longer inner barrel. A perfectly same sized bore all the way thru would possibly be the best..

    Another awesome honest review video! Thank you!
    -I have waited and been wanting this rifle for a long time now. Waiting for the newer upgraded issue of it coming out on the market before buying it.
    I have owned the co2 MCX for several years and loved it (despite all of it's flaws). Videos since this Virtus came out has shown this has given mostly about 8-9fpe (or at least the UK version) and that it has not even nearly been as accurate as the hunting rifle styled PCP rifles. Does not surprise me though, since being a long time owner of the old co2 model. Parts and fittings within are not as accurately manufactured on this one as on target PCP rifles. Personally do not recommend a bipod long way out on the front handguard - but if, then lighten up the rifle by the grip. The barrel is quite long, is not fitted into place that long within the main body and the thin plastic handguard I believe does not much support the barrel either. I personally shoot only up to 20 meters with my co2 MCX - and I would not go any much further away with this one straight-out-of-the-box. The style/looks of this PCP does not really either imply this is a hunting rifle. Personally just want a military styled, sub 25m paper plinking rifle that does not cool down as the co2 MCX does. If this Virtus can shoot more consistent than the co2 version for several magazines without remarkably dropping in power - and even AS hard as my co2 MCX shoots it's first 5-10 shots - then it is all enough for me. Never thought these to be match target airguns - but yes, still is fun to use them as such either way.😁 Do get 2cm groups with my co2 MCX with a red dot from 15 meters with the 10 first shots (then power starts dropping - and fast, with 12g cartridges and adapter. Slower power drop with 88g cartridges)..

    Well, I have just watched this review and it has served to confirm what I already thought about this rifle. Admittedly it is a "Marmite" rifle, some will love it for its looks and accept its implied performance stats but I for one will not be adding the Virtus to my collection. I think it will serve to reinforce the "Rambo Wannabe" veiw that the a large section of the general public already hold of serious airgun and indeed FAC shooters.

    I shot one of these at the British shooting in February and I hit every thing I pointed it at. I bought one and at first was a little disappointed with it out the box but I had just bought the artimis pp750 which had blown me away with how good it is and I was not expecting much from that gun. The sig needs to be set up right ie right pellets and scope and making sure every pellet is seated right in the belt but once you get it right it shoots pretty well its no hunting rifle but for basic target and pinking and even speed plates it's lots of fun. The trigger is easy to adapt to once you get the hang of it. You can fit a silencer to it I have one on mine but becareful as at the factory they are put on so tight you can unscrew the barrel I had to use grips to remove mine I've been told the UK distributor has complained about this and newer batchs should be easier to remove. I see this gun more like a project and once you get it right it's lots of fun.

    it seems like a true semi auto pcp air rifle that could use actual attachments ("military style" as some might say) would be at the top of manufacturers priority for an air gun to make. many people want a small game end of the world survivalist's rifle. pcp so virtually unlimited ammo since for a few bucks you could have thousands of pellets an or cast your own. light weight (again cause ammo is nothing), strong enough and accurate enough to hunt various small animals but still powerful enough to deter a rabid dog or something after a few shots. Another great review Andy. 👍
    It would be interesting to discover if the inconsistency in accuracy is down to:
    a) pellet deformation due to loading system;
    b) barrel issues, or;
    c) not enough power causing the rifle to be more pellet fussy.
    Or, all of the above!
    Personally, and even though only CO2, I'd rather have the Lee Enfield replica - even if just for nostalgia.

    Would be interesting to see an updated review on this - Sig later corrected most of the issues their first few runs of these had. Both myself and a friend of mine picked up the newer version of this and we've both had fairly good results with them. Still not target rifles, but they definitely do have a decent punch to them and will reliably knock out soda cans at 40 yards using a cheap red dot sight. My use of the imperial system probably also gives away that I'm in the US - it's worth noting that the US version of this rifle does not require a manual trigger reset, and it feels much closer to a true semi-automatic rifle. The round feeds in the first stage of the trigger pull instead of in the reset.

[IT JUST A MISSING SPRING - replace it properly] The 1200psi limit dates from the originals system still, they haven't beefed it up at all therefore. That is enough in an efficient PCP to get to UK legal limits for sure but yeah, 12ftlb ain't that much anymore. Here again the internal revolving belt system is taking its price in misalignment as gape between belt chamber and barrel. Which is also cause for the lack in precision with the CO2/PCP MCX-systems - just using one chamber of the belt that is lining up well to barrel to shoot groups, it helps a lot.
    With my .177 MCX I don't care that it sprays its pellet a 25 yards across a mini ipsc target - but I wouldn't get me this one with all it downsides.

    I was seriously interested in the Virtus when it was announced but as soon as I heard about the trigger, doubt began creeping in. Two of the three that arrived at my local supplier had to be returned within days because of various faults . Sorry Sig Sauer, there's no way I'm spending £500 on a plinking rifle. Halve the price and I'd consider it.

    I was eye balling this. Really like the trigger mechanism after using the artemis p10. It's a absolute piece of from this in depth review. Never looking at it again. Thank you.

    Love the idea of the PCP. BUT it does not live up to expectations. I would choose the Canebrake instead and save myself £100.

    Instead of using an elastic band to reset the trigger (which would look ugly, and get in the way), couldn't you fit a spring behind the trigger?

    Thank you for the great and honest review of the rifle - just cancelled my order, and a new subscriber too.

    It would be interesting to know if the recent Mk2 version is a significant improvement. At the moment, the Canebrake CO2 looks vastly superior.

      The Canebrake is quite similar to this one actually. Almost same internals. But I do think the Canebrake might have gotten a better barrel setup. Get the Canebrakebifbyou can - I would, whenever got the extra money.
      I do love my Virtus though. Yes, not that accurate. But I did get a 10cm/4in group from 53meters - and I'm pretty happy with that already.

    You have to precharge the cylinder before fitting to the receiver.

    I got one and I love it. It has power to push those pellets out with some force. Love the freedom here in the US. You get what you are allowed in the UK which is that peace of as you say rubbish.

    The old Co 2 versions from 2016/17 had a rifled barrel and if you brought the hpa conversion kits from best fittings you can get the rifle doing a nice ten and a half of foot pounds and the trigger works without the need to push it forward after each shot, looks like this is going to be a bit of a flop for English Market in my opinion.
