The Donkey Kong Country games on the SNES are classic tales of friendship prevailing over everything. From Donkey Kong, Diddy, Dixie, and Kiddy, these heroes can defeat anything King K. Rool and his kremling crew can chuck at them as long as they work together.
But who is the best kong from each game? Who contributes the most to gameplay, looks the coolest, and so on? Well, today, we aim to find out...Today, however, I will not be taking this task on alone: Marsen from Marsensdomain, an expert on these games, will be helping me out!

It's like by power they put it like this: DK < Diddy < Dixie > Kiddy
Also, I'd like to point out how Kiddy was a blatant carbon copy of Donkey Kong Jr, the very same Kong that Rare replaced with Diddy. If Rare wanted to replace DK Jr with Diddy, why make the argument about it feel so pointless by adding a character that can be easily replaced with DK Jr in terms of abilities?
Oh, and another thing, the sprites during the “Simon” game are actually meant for the Carnival Mini-game and the Snowman Boss, as Kiddy’s animation was meant for that.
I’d argue that the armadillos are also an enemy type that encourages the use of DK over Diddy, since jumping on them while they’re rolling as DK doesn’t bounce him back, and thus he’s a much safer choice to get rid of them than Diddy
Yeah I'm pretty sure the armadillos were meant for DK. Definitely a much safer choice much like taking down Krusha.
Glad someone pointed that out because its actually a big point. There are some points in the game where DKs heavy weight is so much easier to use.

Yes I think It's awesome
Part of why DKC2 is my favourite of the bunch is because it has the best kongs. Diddy and Dixie control very well and don't feel heavy like Donkey and Kiddy. The floating mechanic of Dixie is good for platforming and the speed of Diddy complements fast-paced gameplay, making the game fun no matter the desing of a level
That's one criticism I have with DKC2 is that both Kongs are the same light weight characters whereas in 1&3, you have that little/big character dynamic which gives it a different feel in fighting the villains and platforming.
I agree. For platforming it feels so much better to be using lighter characters over heavy ones. They're a perfect team with Diddy handling the more speed focused sections and Dixie to help with the slower, precision platforming areas. In 1&3 I don't care too much if Donkey or Kiddy is lost, but in 2 I just have to have Diddy and Dixie all the time.
I liked there not being a heavy character in DKC2 tbh, Diddy and Dixie are both far more fun to play as than either Donkey or Kiddy and they were never needed anyway because of the team throws.
Kiddy isn't heavy. He's as faster than Dixie
DKC2 is my favorite besides Tropical Freeze, but 3 is very underrated.
Gotta admit, Dixie at least cries like a professional. She doesn't do it often, only when she dies, and it's not too annoying or loud. Odd to say this, but she has mastered the art of crying in a way that you feel sorry for her instead of angry. As for Kiddy, it's best that the SNES isn't able to handle the sounds he makes and just makes him mute. He's likely even worse then Baby Wario if not muted and that's saying a ton.

I don't find funny that kind of humor but I found Kiddy's crying unironically funny, and also not that annoying as their sounds are not as loud as everything else in game.
I remember him screaming in the PAL-version of teh game, and he sounded more angry than sad.

Chunky must have been so good that they retired him after 1 game lol.

You actually forgot and I even saw that DK’s hand slap can be used on enemies to get bananas. That special attack is kinda like Wario, who uses his arm to charge at enemies giving him a coin.
Wario also has a slam attack in Wario Land: Shake It! except it shakes the whole screen at a violent rate, talk about power.
Diddy and Dixie will always be my favorites, I can't decide which one I like more.
Part of the reason why Dkc 2 was my favorite in the series.

Am i the only one who think that the dixie guy is kinda biased? I mean calling rap outdated, making dixie win because tears are visible. I don't really object but i really felt like punching the screen on the Diddy vs dixie on the idle animation part i probably would have if dixie won
Diddy's rap singing ages like milk to begin with, and Kiddy's wailing is exaggerated as sin to the point of being funny alright, TO MOCK.

In the DKC2 winning animation, I guess it's a matter of which style of music you prefer. :P
Personally, I'll go with Dixie.
Also, I doubt it's just "the Dixie guy" being biased. The arguments had probably been talked among both of them before making the video, so it's probable the opinions shown in the video are mostly shared or at least agreed upon by both comenters.

It’s a shame Dixie didn’t get into Smash along with K. Rool in the base roster for how cool and amazing she is. She deserved a spot more than half the FE characters we got.
RIGHT!! Sakurai has a hards on for fire emblem. When Byleth was revealed all I could say was "really? Another FE character? An FE character is the final character of this season, seriously?"

One thing you guys forgot to mention regarding Dixie is that her hair attack doesn’t have as much distance as Diddy’s. This forces her to get closer to the enemies before actually using it.
The animations were always one of the best qualities of the DKC series. Sure, they're just eye candy, but they give the games so much personality.
Its something I feel the 2 newer games are missing.
On GBA version of DKC, Donkey can actually kill Rockkrocs with his Hand Slap

Also in the GBA version of DKC 2 while in Team up mode, Diddy or Dixie can kill Kruncha by jumping on him with their combined weight.

As a mother of a soon-to-be 2 year old, I can safely say Kiddy's death animation is a "toddler tantrum." 😗 When my toddler doesn't get her way, she'll through a tantrum (a lot of "crying"; no tears; just a lot of yelling and screaming). 😆

I also enjoyed this video. 😊 I loved how in-depth y'all went with comparing each Kong from their respective games. 😁 This video got me in the mood to play DKC2, my favorite of the trilogy. 😚
It's worth pointing out that Diddy does have some trouble with Armydillos, namely that attacking them when they're rolling around only knocks the Armydillo out of their rolling state while Diddy recoils, though the Armydillo will be defeated by an attack when not in the rolling state. The SGB demake, Donkey Kong Land, has Armydillos instead require 2 hits from Diddy to defeat but whether they're in the rolling state or not doesn't make a difference. Neither is a huge advantage for Donkey, of course, since Armydillos aren't that common, and platforming inevitably becomes the bigger factor. Oh, and by the way, Donkey's roll attack doesn't hurt Krushas either. Regular Krushas, not just the silver ones from Platform Perils.
I'll point that there are defeat animations for failing bonus levels in DKC1, and they also play out if you fail to maintain the platform in Tanked Up Trouble. Donkey's is facepalming then kneeling, having his fists on the ground, and shaking his head in shame, while Diddy's is grabbing his hat, throwing it on the ground, and jumping on it repeatedly. I'll let you judge which one is more interesting. Probably Diddy's.

As a kid, I had a dream so vivid I was certain it was a real advert I'd seen for years.
It was a DKC 4, as Donkey Kong and some female adult Kong.

I’ve seen a fan made Donkey Kong Country 4 on UA-cam where all the Kongs are playable (DK, Diddy, Dixie, Kiddy) but only 2 are allowed at once, so it’s like Tropical Freeze in a way (not sure why they didn’t think of this for DKC3...)

This video is literally the first time I've ever heard of DKC 1's hand slap move. Didn't ever know it was a thing.
Surprised that, after making it a point in the Donkey vs. Diddy round, that you never brought up that Dixie carries her barrels over her head, in contrast to both Diddy and Kiddy.
She does carry it lower than DK, though, so she'll still hit more enemies with it than DK ever would have.

Quick nitpick to make, the original donkey kong is not the current donkey kong. The original kong is cranky kong, who still has a similar facial feature since uk, hes cranky.

Its likely that mario was younger than expected during the events of donkey kong, and cranky was still young enough to be in shape. Could also leave the aging of donkey kong being as a result of being a star child

I mostly agree with the points. But in my opinion, the Boombox is the better Victory Animation. Not because I'm too much into rap or anything, but I just feel like it's a staple of the time the game came out in. Guess it's kinda a Nostalgia Bonus for it from me.

I think it’s hard to decide for DKC 1. Donkey Kong can slam the ground and when he hits enemies with his ground pound, you get a banana. 100 Bananas = 1UP, while Diddy is faster and he jumps higher

People are going to like Dixie. There's no bias because Dixie just plain gave Marsen's Domain too much reason to prefer her over Diddy or ESPECIALLY Kiddy. If he was biased, he wouldn't have given ANY points to Kiddy or even Diddy.

I think one of the reasons I love DKC2 so much is that both Kongs play on a fairly equal playing field. They both have their strengths and you can’t really go wrong with either. How fitting that the best duo in the series is literally dating. Talk about a power couple.

I'm very late to this, but Dixie and Kiddy actually run exactly as fast as each other. They only differ when holding barrels, where Kiddy is indeed faster.

I played through Donkey Kong Country 1 and I'd argue that Donkey Kong's way of carrying the barrel is superior, I remember Donkey Kong hitting something on front of him with it.

I always thought that Kiddie when he gets hit was just yelling out of frustration since toddlers are known for throwing temper tantrum that’s just what I thought. Which comes in the form of screaming, throwing things, slamming, stomping on the ground etc and etc. Seems more out of frustration rather than crying.

My personal favorites are the best buds Diddy Kong and Donkey Kong after that it’s Tiny Kong and Chunky Kong with Funky Kong and Candy Kong those are my top 6 favorite Kongs. Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong are nice but Tiny Kong and Chunky Kong are improvements over them.

Diddy, Dixie, Dixie. Very simple. It's amazing but when ai play Donkey Kong County 1, if I see a sting of Diddy winning more levels, I see it as the game getting harder. Same with Dixie in Donkey Kong Country 2
Sorry for a second post, wanted to clarify that Dixie Kong can’t be accurately done 100% without wasting barrels and using a guide which sucks because I see how she can be more easily used but reality you’ll have use a guide if your only using her. Also I wished you also included the bonus games from the first game they actually have different animations if you lose they do keep the victory animation like wining a boss but if you lose they have different but overall decent video but I really think a character viable to actually 100% the games should have also been included but that’s just my opinion.
Without even watching Dixie was easily the best/most useful of the Kongs and was always my favorite Kong 👍

Dixie's nails are painted in the game, as the game animations were made by animating the 3D models, and then "flattening" the images to fit them on the SNES. The painted nails are simply at an awkward angle, and may be too few pixels to survive the conversion.
