  • I took time out to jump into a backpacking trip with my extended family and had to overcome a panic attack in Coyote Gulch. I also helped rescue a family from heat exhaustion and dehydration. Watch as these stories play out.

❤️ Thank you for sharing this Will.
I suffer from Claustrophobia also, and have had a panic attack while caving... definitely can relate slightly to what you may have been going through
    .
Wow Utah has amazing scenery!!! I can see why you choose to live there!
Be so proud of your weight loss so far, you’re looking fantastic!

I really enjoyed this, Will. I think the analytical mind that enables you to determine why things look the way they do so that you can render them in illustration is the same analytical mind that enabled you to help safely navigate with the family you befriended.

I agree that we can apply the same way of working to many different situations... looking back I wouldn't trade any part of this trip...I learned a lot!

Wow, Well done on facing your fear. Reminds me of the film where the lad gets his arm stuck after slipping in a ravine and has to cut it off. lol Glad that didn't happen. Such a beautiful and peaceful looking place, a place I would be very happy staying in for a while. Would love to be one of the artists as a group there, sadly, I'm in UK so probably not going to happen. Good to hear you got a response to you're prayer too, I've been asking for help for years with various things, but mostly for some luck with my art career...sadly no answer yet. Thanks for sharing, enjoyed it.

I've often wished that I could get a clear answer to prayers, too. I want to get answers like having things work out the way I want, or be told exactly what I should do, and it's easy to feel like you're not getting an answer. I've found that sometimes when we feel like we aren't getting an answer, the answer is, "You're doing fine. Just keep going."
I remember a message by one of my church leaders about this. It's just 7 or 8 min. long, but it's split up into 3 videos, and the 3rd one is the one that talks about different types of answers we get from God.
Patterns of Light, Elder David A. Bednar ua-cam.com/video/slTa15a3mp0/v-deo.html
(The videos build on each other, so you'll want to watch from the beginning--it's all good stuff!)
I've been going to church my entire life (I'm 39), and I've gotten the type of answer--like the experience Will shared--and the 1st type Elder Bednar describes--only twice. Both of those answers came after several prayers and thinking a lot about what I should do, and working on figuring out the best solution. One other time it was kind of in-between the 1st and 2nd type. But I've gotten the 2nd & 3rd type much more frequently. It's important to remember to take time after we pray (and throughout the day) to be still & listen.
It helps me when I remember that we are here in this life to learn and grow. That's not going to happen if God just hands all the answers to us. He wants us to rely on Him and pray for His help, and he also wants us to figure things out on our own. He gave me a brain, and he expects me to use it. I can do my best to find a solution, then ask, "Is this right?"
Another thing that really helps me get a better perspective on things is to remember that in relation to my Heavenly Father, I am like a little child. I need to look at the things I'm learning in the same way that I would teach a kid. If I'm helping them read, I'll let them struggle and sound it out. If I tell them the word right away, they aren't going to learn how to do it on their own. If I'm teaching a baby how to walk, I'm not going to expect them to get it right the first time. Even when they fall down, we don't say they are failing at learning to walk. We encourage them, and say, "Good job! Keep trying! You can do it!" We know that falling down and struggling is part of the process, and they really are learning to walk--even if it doesn't look like it yet. But when it comes to us learning things as adults, we often don't allow for the process of learning. It's easy to feel like we aren't getting anywhere, but if we keep trying, we will make it, and God will be there to help us and encourage us to keep going.

I’m a skinny person and I’d be terrified of going into a tiny crack like that! Holy cow 😂 I’m proud of you for tackling this challenge.
I want to visit Utah so much and climb around rocks like this. With people who know what they’re doing, of course hahaha, I would need help 😆

Great video, Will! Man, I would love to go on a creative camp out. That's something I really don't get enough of living so close to a city without a car to drive further out from civilization. There's almost a spiritual connection you get in places like that that is not possible to get any other way.

Thanks for sharing. We used to go to Lake Powell practically every weekend during my teens. We Boated through canyons sometimes barely wider than our boat.

Love this! I wish I could go backpacking. Since my back injury I haven't been able to carry a lot of weight on it, or wear a backpack. Small one day hikes only for me. Glad everything went well.

I love hiking and backpacking but I always fear something like this can easily happen if you don't know the route well enough so I always bring a headlamp and new batteries with me, just in case.
