my husband used to walk into my daughter's elementary school years ago - just to see if he could - and if he could walk in he got really upset with them. Talk to your kids school - run test drives - make sure they have what they need and are keeping your kids safe.
funny how here in Australia, we don't have to worry about mass shootings, but our schools are like fortresses or prisons. You can only get into admin during the day and they won't open gates unless you're there to drop something in for your kids

There are many people claiming that police waited 45 minutes to enter the school and that it was an off duty boarder patrol agent who rushed to the school. Parents trying to rush inside the school were stopped by cops and at least one parent was detained.

I submitted suggestions and diagrams to the School in New haven. Sandy hook. Adam lanza. 2012. They did not want to arm teachers. They did not want security guards in the schools. I suggested bullet proof glass on the classroom doors with automatic electronic locks that activates with an alarm on the classroom does to keep the shooters out of the classroom. That would allow the operator to keep the shooter isolated in a hall way without access to any classrooms and the other floors since the hallway doors would lock also. Then call the police at the same time. Install camera in the hallway so you can notify the police of the shooters exact position in the school. Schools operate on a budget and somebody has to pay foe the installation.

OP - This school had an armed police resource officer. There was still a mass shooting. Perhaps we should focus on stopping shooters instead of putting children in essentially heavily armored prisons.

This is a tragedy. I have no children yet. There is no-way on earth that American schools can keep children in our country safe. The only ones to keep your children safe is you as a parent or guardian. Its clear as day they are entering school at their own risk, and its devastating. My heart is heavy. I don’t have kids myself, but I would’ve sacrificed myself for those children. I feel so helpless that kids aren’t protected the way they should. I’m from the UK, I’ve visited the us a few times, and I always used to wonder why schools, especially junior/elementary had no proper security. Some places, I can watch the kids playing. That’s so unsafe. Why weren’t there extra safety measures set in place of school shootings are known to be common? Why did the police take so long to save these babies? My heart goes out to all the families, all the children and everyone who is now dealing with the aftermath of this.

It’s not about disgusting, it’s about how the US governs gun violence. It’s about how children are raised in homes where guns are as common and mundane as a toy. Yep I read a few articles about the gunman. Apparently he moved out to live with his grandma 2 months ago after a huge fight with his mother. It was his 18th birthday less than 2 weeks ago and he celebrated it with his grandma at Applebees… no mention of his mother. His mum is a known drug addict and clearly her boyfriend in this clip is too. Sounds like the origin story of a villain. Child services and Gun Laws failing the country as always.

Families are either not caring to use therapy as a resource or don't think they can afford it, but there are so many options available these days, especially because of the pandemic. My husband's sister was murdered in the 1st mass shooting in texas. She was 10yr old and was walking home from school. My husband was 8 and was about 1/2 a block behind her and saw the whole thing. His family did say together but tragically there are many scares related to the shooting. Called my mother-in-law to check on her last night. She is holding up but these shootings bring up so many memories even after 50 yrs. Hug your loved ones and don't ever let them walk out the door without telling them you love them.
Sadly, most of these children were probably born in 2012-the first mass shooting in an Elementary school at Sandy Hook in Connecticut. It’s a shame that nothing has changed to stop these senseless shootings. My prayers and deep sympathy for the family of these beautiful angels.

Existing schools were built with a “welcoming” architecture; they weren’t built to be fortresses against people armed with assault rifles. I retired from teaching in a California public school last year. Districts across the U.S. were already struggling last year to staff classrooms after the impact of Covid 19. If these school shootings continue, good luck trying to recruit anyone to enter the teaching profession! If the Supreme Court can backtrack on Roe v. Wade-to protect the right-to-life of the unborn, then surely it (and the rest of our government officials) can support a ban on assault rifles to protect the right-to-life of the living.

It stays in my house when I am at home I don't carry it with me anywhere even though in Texas it's an open carry. I filled out all kinds of paperwork when I got my protection for my home because I live out in the middle of nowhere and my kids live too far away from me to be able to come and help me in case somebody breaks in. But yes assault rifles should be banned I agree with that totally there is no reason like you said that anybody needs a rifle that holds 300 rounds. Raise the age to purchase make them fill out more strict paperwork. Ultimately yes those assault rifles need to be banned. I also believe that the store that sold him these guns needs to be held responsible and should have reported it for buying an assault rifle with 300 rounds and then he came back in within a few days and they allowed him to buy some more that is a huge red flag right there. It is so sad I feel so sorry for all of these little babies and those teachers they didn't ask for this neither did the grandma. This is just so tragic and here in Texas I live 60 miles from uvalde and that is just I am at a loss for words right now.

Well his grandma was a teacher there and who he shot first according to the news. I know when my son was in high school in San Antonio I could walk in that building nobody stopped me to sign in and I could walk halfway down the hallway and hand my son his lunch and nobody would say a word. High schools have so many students and everybody is moving around in that building constantly that it makes you wonder if the school faculty is really look at people and think to themselves what are they doing out in the hallway where are they going start asking questions to these kids. I remember a couple times I could just stand inside the main doors and wait for my son to meet me at the front to get his lunch sometimes and nobody would ask me if I needed anything they just would walk past you and say hi and keep on going. I think that they get comfortable that nothing is going on they're not looking for anything to happen.
Even though I'm not related or know anyone from the shooting, still affected by this tragedy since my mom is a nurse. I hope the families know the community is with them ❤️

According to the news here in Texas his grandma worked at that school and he shot and killed her. That may be why he went to that school. I think Texas and all states needs to have more protection at any door that is in a school. Lock the doors and you can't come in unless you have an ID and if you have an ID and you want pick up your child they can bring the child to you. But yes we do need more security in the schools. We pay enough taxes to help pay for this.
May be not the person who worked there, may be they should go after the person that owned the company, i guess that is fair. Current and future generations of parents should put more effort to raise their kids properly in a healthy environment; surely this would minimise kids develop into mentally problematic teens. Unfortunately, it’s easier said than done because the state of society we live in today, most of us are too busy making a living, dealing with stress, facing problems life throw at us; too much negativity getting built up inside, those can’t regulate these negative emotions become miserable like doing drugs, child abuse, negligence, uncaring….etc Resulting children under such poor parenting and environment won’t grow to become healthy adults, likely some percent of them shall be that “quiet kid” aka the next shooter. Schools are also responsible, too. Education is not all about grades, teach kids about morality how to be kind and loving. But then again, barely any teachers care, it’s just a job after all.

my husband used to walk into my daughter's elementary school years ago - just to see if he could - and if he could walk in he got really upset with them. Talk to your kids school - run test drives - make sure they have what they need and are keeping your kids safe.

There are many people claiming that police waited 45 minutes to enter the school and that it was an off duty boarder patrol agent who rushed to the school. Parents trying to rush inside the school were stopped by cops and at least one parent was detained.

So sad how an 18 yr. old can buy an assault weapon with over 300 rounds of ammunition, with no questions asked.
I submitted suggestions and diagrams to the School in New haven. Sandy hook. Adam lanza. 2012. They did not want to arm teachers. They did not want security guards in the schools. I suggested bullet proof glass on the classroom doors with automatic electronic locks that activates with an alarm on the classroom does to keep the shooters out of the classroom. That would allow the operator to keep the shooter isolated in a hall way without access to any classrooms and the other floors since the hallway doors would lock also. Then call the police at the same time. Install camera in the hallway so you can notify the police of the shooters exact position in the school. Schools operate on a budget and somebody has to pay foe the installation.

My heart is heavy. I don’t have kids myself, but I would’ve sacrificed myself for those children. I feel so helpless that kids aren’t protected the way they should. I’m from the UK, I’ve visited the us a few times, and I always used to wonder why schools, especially junior/elementary had no proper security. Some places, I can watch the kids playing. That’s so unsafe. Why weren’t there extra safety measures set in place of school shootings are known to be common? Why did the police take so long to save these babies? Yep I read a few articles about the gunman. Apparently he moved out to live with his grandma 2 months ago after a huge fight with his mother. It was his 18th birthday less than 2 weeks ago and he celebrated it with his grandma at Applebees… no mention of his mother.

My husband's sister was murdered in the 1st mass shooting in texas. She was 10yr old and was walking home from school. My husband was 8 and was about 1/2 a block behind her and saw the whole thing.
His family did say together but tragically there are many scares related to the shooting. Called my mother-in-law to check on her last night. She is holding up but these shootings bring up so many memories even after 50 yrs.

Sadly, most of these children were probably born in 2012-the first mass shooting in an Elementary school at Sandy Hook in Connecticut. It’s a shame that nothing has changed to stop these senseless shootings. My prayers and deep sympathy for the family of these beautiful angels.

Existing schools were built with a “welcoming” architecture; they weren’t built to be fortresses against people armed with assault rifles. I retired from teaching in a California public school last year. Districts across the U.S. were already struggling last year to staff classrooms after the impact of Covid 19. If these school shootings continue, good luck trying to recruit anyone to enter the teaching profession! If the Supreme Court can backtrack on Roe v. Wade-to protect the right-to-life of the unborn, then surely it (and the rest of our government officials) can support a ban on assault rifles to protect the right-to-life of the living.

It stays in my house when I am at home I don't carry it with me anywhere even though in Texas it's an open carry. I filled out all kinds of paperwork when I got my protection for my home because I live out in the middle of nowhere and my kids live too far away from me to be able to come and help me in case somebody breaks in. But yes assault rifles should be banned I agree with that totally there is no reason like you said that anybody needs a rifle that holds 300 rounds. Raise the age to purchase make them fill out more strict paperwork. Ultimately yes those assault rifles need to be banned. I also believe that the store that sold him these guns needs to be held responsible and should have reported it for buying an assault rifle with 300 rounds and then he came back in within a few days and they allowed him to buy some more that is a huge red flag right there. It is so sad I feel so sorry for all of these little babies and those teachers they didn't ask for this neither did the grandma. This is just so tragic and here in Texas I live 60 miles from uvalde and that is just I am at a loss for words right now.

Well his grandma was a teacher there and who he shot first according to the news. I know when my son was in high school in San Antonio I could walk in that building nobody stopped me to sign in and I could walk halfway down the hallway and hand my son his lunch and nobody would say a word. High schools have so many students and everybody is moving around in that building constantly that it makes you wonder if the school faculty is really look at people and think to themselves what are they doing out in the hallway where are they going start asking questions to these kids. I remember a couple times I could just stand inside the main doors and wait for my son to meet me at the front to get his lunch sometimes and nobody would ask me if I needed anything they just would walk past you and say hi and keep on going. I think that they get comfortable that nothing is going on they're not looking for anything to happen.
Even though I'm not related or know anyone from the shooting, still affected by this tragedy since my mom is a nurse. I hope the families know the community is with them ❤️

Where did he get all this money for guns! I don’t know much about them but they must be pretty expensive. Hearing the one doctor talk about what an assault rifle does to a body especially a child is sick ! Why are these for sale here ! What do we need them for here!!!! This isn’t a war zone! Broken home triggers. This kid had a whole life ahead of him if only he had guidance and I’m sure alot more has to do with how he grew up. So sad he didn’t see the brighter side of life itself. RIP to the little angels and the loving teachers! 🕊

the story says he was upset about not graduating from school.His family should support him mentally,arguments with teenagers not a solution, it's not the end of world, he could try to graduate next year or go to any vocational training to get some experience.In Asia where I live in if you don't graduate from school most of door in life closed for you,but It's not the case for States.His family should have more supportive.

Do we lose our right to defend our children by placing them into publicly funded schools? If this is true we need to change the law - among other things - to free ourselves from the idea that publicly funded schools are necessary and not optional. We - the parents of the children being educated by publicly funded schools - need to be free to remove our children from the public system and place them into a school that suits our safety concerns better. But before this can happen, we need to recognize the impediments to this freedom. This will require us to face some cold, hard facts.
First, teachers’ unions wield almost limitless power over the distribution of money that goes into education. They have a permanent hand in the pocket of local and federal taxpayers by way of locally and federally elected officials. This needs to end...but we can't if we don't challenge the idea that education needs to be a publicly funded institution. This leads us to the second cold, hard fact.
The idea that government should take on the role of educator restricts the freedom of parents to act in the best interest of their children. A local school board member, state legislator or federal bureaucrat cannot know the interest of every parent in their jurisdiction. They have no way of knowing, and no way of learning, what actions I, or any parent, might want to take for the sake of my children's education. Centrally planned education - by forcing parents to use publicly funded schools - strips all parents of their right to use their personal resources to secure a better and safer education for their children.
When it comes to the loss of parental rights, the rich suffer as much as the poor. The advantage that wealth provides is the ability to afford the cost. The poor often don't know the difference...since education is "free" to them. Both rich and poor remain ignorant of the REAL cost: the loss of a better future due to the waste of present talent.
Children are a potential...one limited only by their reasoning mind. Publicly funded schools do not teach children to reason...I see this in my job as a college professor. Every school shooting proves that government schools fail even the first measure of good government, which is to defend the lives and rights of its citizens. Because they do not teach children to *_REASON_* they also fail the first measure of good education.

According to the news here in Texas his grandma worked at that school and he shot and killed her. That may be why he went to that school. I think Texas and all states needs to have more protection at any door that is in a school. Lock the doors and you can't come in unless you have an ID and if you have an ID and you want pick up your child they can bring the child to you. But yes we do need more security in the schools.
We pay enough taxes to help pay for this.
May be not the person who worked there, may be they should go after the person that owned the company, i guess that is fair. I used to worked for a living so i understand those who worked for the company have been told to do certain things even if it uncomfortable, they have no other choice but to do what they ask them to do they should go after the owner when they see how serious this is they probably not going to sell gun just to anyone that walk in their doors.
For every child murdered as well as the teacher, there are the parents, the brothers and sisters, the grandparents, the nephews, the nieces, the cousins, the 2nd cousins, the step families, the child’s friends, the parents friends and more.

Current and future generations of parents should put more effort to raise their kids properly in a healthy environment; surely this would minimise kids develop into mentally problematic teens. Unfortunately, it’s easier said than done because the state of society we live in today, most of us are too busy making a living, dealing with stress, facing problems life throw at us; too much negativity getting built up inside, those can’t regulate these negative emotions become miserable like doing drugs, child abuse, negligence, uncaring….etc
Resulting children under such poor parenting and environment won’t grow to become healthy adults, likely some percent of them shall be that “quiet kid” aka the next shooter.
Schools are also responsible, too. Education is not all about grades, teach kids about morality how to be kind and loving. But then again, barely any teachers care, it’s just a job after all.
