This morning i won 50 Linus coins for putting the thermal paste back in the correct drawer and all i can get with that is Lunch with......Dennis -Luke Lafreniere 2016
Nothing that the private industry has done can come close to the awfulness of Sesame Credit in China. It's not just "creepy." It's HORRIFYING. Those without enough Sesame Credit won't be able to get jobs. Those that display unfaltering loyalty to the Chinese government will get the best jobs, economic opportunity, and even matchmaking opportunities. Worse yet, even being friends with someone with low credit is said to incur penalties, meaning that it socially isolates those that aren't fanatically loyal. So it's a tool for brainwashing and breeding loyalty to the government. With it, I don't think China can ever recover from its current state.
Feynstein 100 Yep. But don't worry. Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and most of Europe won't be far behind. The US might be, too, depending on how we play our cards. Hilariously enough, Russia might be the last, best hope for Western civilization. Heck, the UK Minister of Health claimed that the Liverpool Care Pathway (where a patient is sedated and starved to death) was "great," even knowing that hundreds of thousands were put on it without consent, many spent quite a long time in agony because the sedation didn't work right (and those are just the ones that we KNOW were in pain), and other were put on it in spite of not actually being terminal, as evidenced by people on it recovering, waking up, and checking out. Which makes you wonder how many people would have recovered without it, but didn't because their bodies were deprived of nutrients. This is what he classified as "great." Because it saved the government some money. It is horrifying how these governments view their citizens.
You even get promotion if you do it well enough, you level up! On a more serious note one could argue a job is indeed gamified in some ways and one step further, as described in the video, would be to argue life is gamified. The interesting part here is that it shows how humans are wired to have an almost natural addiction to progression and how companies and developers are using this for good and .. not so good purposes.
Just to add onto their ad, the Harry Potter audiobooks are all finished and for sale, and they're great, narrated by Stephen Fry. Bought them all on iTunes, almost done with the entire series (currently in the late part of book 7) for the second time since purchasing them back in December. :)
Think of Walking and Pokemon Go. Gamification doesn't have to actually have an even decent game attached, but it just needs to be something to help motivate a person to do the activity.
OMG, the timekeeping software I work with has a gamification module to encourage people to punch in to work X__X We will see how well it goes after implementation.
A really good example of Gamification I feel is a class I took in high school. It was a digital arts class where the teacher made assignments quests and allowed you to rank up and earn currency to spend for fun things in class such as taking over the music for the day and so forth. For anyone who might be interested in seeing how it works and the results: maclab.guhsd.net/
you should have done like linus does: speaking of Gamification, Audible has its own reward system depending on, when, what and for how long you listen" etc etc ^^
We need a video answering how long it is until Amazon Web Services (and things alike) takes over the need for physical servers, and computer systems. How long until system builders are no longer needed and the PCMR dies out. When do we all become virtual.
This happened in the Prodigy book series. The entire continent of Antarctica was gamified so the people who do the most good deeds are higher up in society.
3:11 those custom designed plates still exist :0 thats incredible XDDD Yall need to get more of those linus-coins, they'll come in handy at some point ;)
I actually won two of those jets from Pepsi. Seriously Luke. If you stepped your game the fuck up, you could be having lunch with Dennis in that jet right now.
Can you peeps please do a video on how bottlenecking works? I've never understood how an older CPU with a higher clock rate can bottleneck a GPU more than a newer CPU with a lower one...
Am I broken if gamification doesnt work with me? Like, leveling is the least fun part of any game, I dont like achievements. It seems like an abstract of the worst part of games that are designed to specifically slow down game progression, and it's very bizarre to me that it works with people. Like I've tried HabitRPG and it's like why would I even care if my little dude dies or loses HP? It's just some abstract thing thats completely irrelevant. It's one of those "Oh that's neat" things but I really don't see how its effect in any real way.
Achievements make people proud of what they did and they get addicted and want more and more. thats what the gaming industry is trying to do. You must be different ^^
Now I know what to call the thing I don't like. "Do the stuff we want you to do to earn points. You also have a time limit to spend the points or they go away, so get as many as you can as fast as you can so you can use them to get junk." I'm sorry, but I can't afford to be spending $5k per year just to get $20 off a purchase. I also had an employer who wanted employees to change their behaviour so they gameified it... 'do this and earn entries into a draw, more entries means more chances to win.' The thing is, I was already doing it the way they wanted so when they started the program, they ignored me and I got zero entries. I've reached a point where if something is gamified then I don't want to be involved because I get nothing for it. I'm not so stubborn that I'll stay away if it makes sense for me... but I ignore the 'game points' side of it. I also quit my credit card version of gamification (airmiles) because it was costing me a lot and getting me nothing. A temp at the bank was convinced it was the best thing ever and convinced me into it... now I've got not enough points for plane tickets and everything I can get are things I don't want. Guess you could say that I have a lot of bad gamification experience and have leveled up to 'hater'. lol
What is with the yellowish tint/hue on the techquickie videos, with Luke it just looks like he is tanned, but with Linus it looks like he is very ill, check the recent "What is UFS" video to see what I mean.
"Whatever deities you happen to believe in" triggered me, because I don't believe in any! Could you Luke please be more considerate of minorities feelings? Super offended right now.

I would love a lunch with Dennis. 50 Linus points are valuable
ThePyrosirys XD
Any editor that worked on this, the color correction here is probably the best yet!!!
It was probably Dennis
0:14 At a first glance I thought the gears were jammed, but after a closer look it seems they're spaced enough for it to work, I think.

That sounds very close to 1984

+Cocoa Nut yeah, because that's exactly what LCP was about, nothing to do with simple end of life care for patients...
***** Holy shit. That is so dystopian.
not just a cocoa nut, also a conspiracy nut. your tinfoil is showing m8
Linus uses Schrute Bucks?
Lol
50 Linus coins to have a lunch with Dennis?
TAKE MY MONEY
So is a job gamification?
You work for someone to earn money...
You even get promotion if you do it well enough, you level up!

Same psychological concept of reward for effort.
I'd like a link to more information about the harrier jet thing.

Do a video on all the the types of video connectors (like VGA and below)

you should have done like linus does: speaking of Gamification, Audible has its own reward system depending on, when, what and for how long you listen" etc etc ^^
Anyone notice how the gears in one of the first images doesn't actually work?
best youtube tech channel of all. keep up the good work :D
I just came here to applaud you for that very to the point Thumbnail! It's not very common these days.
In S1E2 of Black Mirror it shows a dystopian society where every aspect of daily life is gamified. Perfect example of gamification in action.
We need a video answering how long it is until Amazon Web Services (and things alike) takes over the need for physical servers, and computer systems. How long until system builders are no longer needed and the PCMR dies out. When do we all become virtual.
IRL is the worst game. It's plastered with ads, and always set to permadeath mode, but the graphics are very realistic.

Also, shoutout to n3rdfusion!

This is interesting and relevant. thank you, its been a while....
wait a minute, how come this was published yesterday and there are only like 100 comments?
I dident know you and Denise were going out, I thought you were with Linus
If you find this idea interesting, you should really read some of Jean Baudrillard's works. He predicted this "gamification" many, many years ago.
Hmm so school is a long ass quest chain that gives you exp for every completed quest and in the end you get your Skill certification.
what is the hosts name or instagram please?
I wouldn't mind having lunch with Dennis
I would love it if they did gamify doing the laundry like in the thumbnail
Linus' office seems like a better workplace than Google and Apple
I actually wish real life was leveling up
Gamifications? My name is Thegameifyer........
0:59 is that ex-funhaus Joel?

What I learned from this video: The first Harry Potter book is given it's correct title in Canada :P
What if Dennis hosted a fast as possible episode.
Can you peeps please do a video on how bottlenecking works? I've never understood how an older CPU with a higher clock rate can bottleneck a GPU more than a newer CPU with a lower one...
Why does that T-shirt look like a Pauseunpause merchandise? Canadian youtubers helping each other out?
Gamification is a convoluted reward system that skews reality for the person who participates in it.

The white balance is fixed! It looks great!
linus coins? is it like bitcoin?
I have to call my to do list a 'quest log' or I don't get anything fucking done
How do we get linus coins though? Perhaps someone can make a Linus Coin crypto currency lol.
What is with the yellowish tint/hue on the techquickie videos, with Luke it just looks like he is tanned, but with Linus it looks like he is very ill, check the recent "What is UFS" video to see what I mean.
what is wrong with lunch with Dennis ? I like that he is smart
Call if Duty isn't a game.
It's just a program which has been gamified.
Like a program designed for the army ?
I would dread to think what army uses that game for training.
Ahh yeah its possible.
+luke yami Probably North Korea.
My ToDo list is called "Quests".
Is that gamification too?
Did anyone else see Luke glitch out at 2:33?
"Whatever deities you happen to believe in" triggered me, because I don't believe in any! Could you Luke please be more considerate of minorities feelings? Super offended right now.
you're beating a dead horse with those triggered/offended jokes
I'd say he's beating a very much alive horse.
Believe me, I wish it was a dead horse.
"All I can get with that is lunch with Dennis"? Really? I would love to have lunch with Dennis
Id rather win lunch with dennis than a harrier jet tbh.
I would pay 50,000,000 Linus coins to have lunch with Dennis.
Pokemon GO is gamified walking. Come on Luke.
Shit man, I wanna be a Level 7 Laundry Warrior
I don't know but Lunch with Dennis sounds risky!
Haven't heard the word "gamification" since the gamification hype of 2011.
there's a black mirror episode on points for real-life stuff. depending on how the system is designed, can result into something horrible
I was scrolling through the comments hoping that someone else was thinking about this episode!
Nice N3rdfusion shirt luke
Lunch with Dennis is only 50 Linus coins!
Where the 1440p at , I expect better from y'all
Pokemon Go is a good example of how to gamify a real world activity like walking. Niantic on the other hand...
i love stock photos
Aren't these videos for TechQUICKie? You know, they are supposed to be quick?
LukeQuickies are da best
The first part: "I see you're a player of /r/outside"
i'd like to have lunch with Dennis
