    I am going build my laundry steps. Its 1 meter drop and I need a platform 800x800mm as per Council requirement. Surely, your video will help alot. Thanks mate.

    Thanks, did this yesterday. Perfect for steps up to a porch after we removed an old deck!

    Thank you so much! I’ve been looking at what I should do after I took out my deck and replaced it with a patio, this is perfect! I’m going to use composite decking, I think, and still need to figure out how to attach it to the ground but this step design is going to help a ton, thank you!!

    Love the simplicity and look! I'm curious though... it would be easy enough to add a 3rd box (7 x 5) if additional height were needed. Do you have a suggestion for how one might add a hand rail if having 3 levels, which I believe would be required by code? Or wouldn't it make sense to use this design for 3 steps if doing so required a hand railing?

      I will put your suggestion for a three step stairway with handrailing on my list of videos to be made.

    What is your take on box stairs with a mitered picture-frame for each tread (as per usual) but with the in-fill boards running perpendicular to the risers. Weird to explain what I'm trying to accomplish.....but I have a whole bunch of short off-cuts from my main decking composite boards and I have a few long pieces from the decking picture-frame (different color) left over. In order to not waste the little off-cuts and not have to buy more boards, I'm picturing building a box style support for the three steps I need. I would then picture-frame each step like is normally done with mitered corners, etc. But for the in-fill, I don't have any long pieces of main decking color left, just the offcuts, like I mentioned. So I want to just use the off-cuts running perpendicular to the steps.....ie as if the main decking continued out past the deck picture frame and spilled out onto each step. Not sure if that makes sense. I tried googling that look but cannot find anything similar. I'd appreciate any input. Thank you!

    Could I use a different material on top for the decking? For example - the 5/4x6 Deck boards that I used for the rest of the deck? Thanks

    There is a 12" drop between my home and the outside concrete, can I make a single 6" step or a double 6" step like the video, or maybe a double 5 1/2" step so there is a final 1" step to prevent water from entering the home??

    Will this work building a composite box on top of composite decking. If not, what do you recommend ?

    My question is I'm building this on a concrete slab that isn't perfectly level. Any tips on bracing the first layer on an unlevel slab of concrete? Shims maybe?
    Thanks again!

    • @stairbuilding
      @stairbuilding  4 роки тому +1

      I've made a video on this and would suggest going through the website to find it. However, shims might work and you might also consider shaping the lumber to make everything level. As far as walls are concerned, you might need to add a little bit to some of the framing studs or remove a little bit of the length to make everything level.

    This wouldn't meet code. There is not a consistent height between the risers. The last step into the house. Don't think stakes would pass the inspection for securing the stairs where it meets grade. Also, a stable landing is required. A grass or gravel surface usually doesn't meet the inspector's approval

      Good points and always check with local building department if you're getting a permit.

    Does the top box have to be that big if the door swings inward? Say even if it is 2 inches below the threshold? Do injectors count that 2 inches as a rise?

    • @stairbuilding
      @stairbuilding  3 роки тому

      If the door swings in, then most of the time, you don't need a 3 foot by 3 foot landing or large area at top. I don't understand about injectors, please provide more details.

    As far as dirt, leaves, debris falling into the box(es), couldn't you just staple some landscape fabric down on top of boxes before fastening top decking on?

    • @stairbuilding
      @stairbuilding  2 роки тому

      As long as it couldn't trap any debris, then it could.

      No, but they need to be secured to something like the ground to prevent them from moving.

    Instead of having the bottom box bigger can I make it the same size of the top box and then just make an extra step in the front?
