when death approached unlocked her silent throat.
Leaning her breast against the reedy shore,
thus sang her first and last, and sang no more:
Farewell, all joys! O death, come close mine eyes!
More geese than swans now live, more fools than wise.

當死亡接近才鬆開靜默的喉嚨
她把胸膛倚著蘆葦岸邊
唱出她的第一首、也是最後一首歌
再會了，所有的喜悅！噢，死亡闔上我的雙眼吧！
如今存在的鴻雁多於天鵝，愚人多於智者。
