  • In this video I talk about what Chaos gained and lost in the new version of Under Night. I do still think he's pretty good but he definitely needs to be approached different than in CLR

    That’s rough… I wasn’t sure what to think, but I guess it’s not looking too promising. His weaknesses were seemingly doubled down on rather than addressed. Invul on 2FF seems pretty strong in vorpal, but I do wonder if there will be any answers to the upback button counterplay.
    Londrekia meanwhile is outright buffed, and in ways that both address his weaknesses and let him “win more” once he gets rolling - but he won’t be catching your round start upback with 66C anymore, so that’ll be nice as a Chaos main!

      I think we’ll be fine. I still was playing as though it were CLR through a lot of the beta because I wanted to get reps in. The new moves seem really strong and I can’t wait to try them more

    My main being Hyde means my main has pretty much barely changed beyond his new projectile that seems built to just win him fireball wars so he has a slightly better time against raw zoners. My pocket Linne got HUUUUUGE buffs that I can’t wait to get my hands on.
    As far as viability goes, I am very much a character loyalist who rolls with punches no matter what. As a Kazuya player in Tekken I know we are going to be starving in 8 but it’s not an issue because I just like Kazuya. And similarly, I just like how Hyde feels.

    I didn't have the chance to play the beta, but having played the full game I feel like Londrekia has the potential to be really good in uniclr 2

    I mostly played Kaguya in the beta, but did play a few sets with my main (Eltnum), and spent a while checking out her new tools in the lab. From what I played with her, and discussions I've had with other Elt players, I think she's in a good play. 6C/[C] definitely patches up a bit of a hole in her pressure game where she didn't have a good way to try and force her way back in late in a blockstring without taking pretty sizable risks. 214[B] as an answer to opponents recklessly shielding is also helpful. Its not a huge buff, but the changes to buffering dashes helps make her optimal routing more consistent. I pretty much never went for them online because the buffer window and delay making it a pain, but I'll definitely be using them by default in Sys Celes. And of course j.214C no longer just letting the opponent win Vorpal is much appreciated.
    Main issue I've seen people talk about with her is the nerf to 22B proration, and while it is technically a nerf I kinda like it? It feels like they're trying to emphasize making routing decisions more deliberately instead of always defaulting to double 22B ender.

    I really enjoyed this "discussion" format for this topic but your directed videos are so good as well,
    I don't think either one is better as they are both great and I would love to have a mix of both in the future.
    I am 100% going to play Chaos in UNI2, I don't mind the nerfs and the two new moves looks great.
    I was on the fence about playing Kuon but after watching the trailer I really think he looks awesome,
    so now I have two mains.

    Nice to hear your thoughts on his changes. I labbed the 2FF counterplay during the beta after seeing your Twitter clip and didn't find anything for dealing with jump back button, other than just taking the space or holding 5D. Chaos could never chase up back well, and it didn't get any better. He isn't whiff cancellable in Vorpal while doing 2FF either, so no answer there. The move was oppressive in my experience in the beta, but felt like a knowledge check thats going to be a lot weaker over time. 5FF looks promising though.
    I think the only major change you missed is the 6C nerf (removed block in recovery property + increased recovery), which skews the risk/reward the approaching RPS he had even without Azhi being alive. I found myself being far more open to Assault midscreen as its far riskier to preemptively check it now with our 6C.
    I'm personally mixed on the system changes for the character. On one hand, new VO and GT are welcome changes to improve his defense (at least with meter), but feels at the cost of his unique defensive mechanics. Azhi CS felt limited to EX moves (I personally could not find a good way to input 22A CS in the beta). Creeping Edge actually feels like a net loss for the character, since its anti-zoning applications feel stronger than its use as a defensive option. Chaos in particular is going to struggle with 3D as an additional option for dealing with Azhi. There's also a value disparity for GRD after you hit the new 3 block diminishing returns, since punishing a passive opponent with 5D is far less effective, and the GRD swing towards the end of the cycle was something I found myself relying on a lot in ST/CLR.
    I do plan on sticking it out with Chaos, but I'm currently pessimistic on this first version.

      Both good choices!
      Chaos did have some changes since the beta and I feel he's got some potential. Eltnum is also really good in this new version. Hope to see you in the ranked streets!

    I felt very good about my main (Phonon) in the beta
    She just feels better in every way like everything just works better now
    Maybe combos are like a frame or 2 tighter but if that's all I have to sacrifice for the absurd jump in power we take those
    I haven't even mentioned Install yet which feels just like everything has been turned up to 11

      I think it compliments her gameplan well. Once people find a way to auto-time it so it can threaten throw/low/overhead it's going to be so powerful.

    These changes are concerning, but understandable. Pretty much since ST there have been some characters that have no effective ways to kill Azhi from full screen, especially if the Chaos spaces him well. Waldstein and Enkidu are the obvious picks, but Gordeau, Akatsuki, and even Vatista can have a really hard time dealing with Azhi from afar.
    Personally I think it's fine if a few characters have a hard time dealing with Azhi from afar. It takes some work to set up the best spacings, and there are characters that are great at fighting him anywhere on the screen. But I don't think this dynamic was ever intentional, especially not for those last few MU's. Chaos was tied with Carmine for health in ST, which implies that the devs intended players to be able to kill Azhi at least somewhat consistently. I think the health nerf along with the other changes in CLR's initial release were attempts to gently reign him in, but most of the more drastic changes were rolled back and the ones that stuck didn't do enough to offset his new tools. In fact the 22A change alone arguably made playing keep-away even better in all matchups. So I think Kamone decided more drastic measures were necessary. I honestly like keep-away as a win condition, but I get that's it's not that fun to be on the opposite end of that dynamic.
    But without strong zoning, my main concern is for his offense. Chaos's actual mixups have never been that good outside of the infamous cross-up. Sure his pressure was always great, but opening up patient players that understand how Azhi works is hard. This is sort of what made me lean into lame play in the first place. If you don't have a ton of reliable ways to open people up it makes sense to focus on controlling neutral and save the shmix for when you need to make a comeback. I didn't play the beta, but it seems like all 2B+C does is give Chaos pressure in situations he used to get conversions in and a few new knowledge checks. I don't think that's enough to make up for what he lost. But even if he get's some other offensive buffs It will be hard to justify playing Chaos over other characters. I'm really hoping Azhi eventually get's some of his Invul options back, at least in vorpal.
