My son was one of best players in world at UT (Paul "astz" McGarrity) he died last year and today would have been his birthday. I miss him everyday. Not even sure why I'm writing this been hard long year.
Same, the UT4 maps looked so damn good before they went cheap and cut it off unfinished. After all the time since it was abandoned the improvement in gfx in UE5 and the hw to run it is a huge leap from UT3 witha few updates here and there to take advantage of the new features.
If they did they would probably just use the UT4 assets as a guide to redo from scratch - it was a fairly early version of UE4 when they abandoned it, so the jump to even 5.1 would be huge.
I played OG UT and then all the other versions over the years … One of the most commutative and addictive games ever for me … Epic are missing out on big bucks by not bringing out an updated version 💰💰 Thanks for the videos ❤
I'm putting together a small team to create a spiritual successor to UT, including some popular community maps, using UE 5.1. Development has already started
I like to dream how awesome it would have been if the game continued official development and eventually had as much content as UT2k4 like Onslaught, Assault, Invasion, game customizations etc, and all the maps! Thanks for the video, very interesting!
oddly enough you don't need to really. You need to get a version of the game for 4.27 and that will update automatically to 5.0 beta and then to 5.1. There is some deprecation along the way however. It won't be smooth. It's probably quicker to dump the game logic and setup and remake it with Lyra. That was my plan before seeing this video anyway.
this is great source for cinematics. i can base an virtual production inside an unfinished map. even better... less memory is more resourses for quality.
Please do a tutorial, it's a great idea. Can you convert the player movement aswell? The player movement is great! I had go at converting the movement but kept crashing on me. Be cool if u can setup bots as well.
@@SmartPoly would be great to get it setup in unreal 5, Lyra would have to be FPS though. UT always FPS. You could bring the UT scene back , I'll join ya.
When this game was ''released'' back in 2014, me being a massive fan of UT, I of course download the early access, it legit was the best looking game I have seen at that time and ngl, it still looks impressive, both in the old ue4 and now in ue5. I wish they had put the same effort in this new UT game like they put in UT3...
It seems like natural environment is more easy to model very accurately. Humans and interiors still feels more like CGI while outdoors looks really movie alike. Any ideas why?
I would like to see a tutorial on how to make a arena FPS game with multiple gamemodes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Duel and Capture the Flag. It would be nice to have powerups, ammo and weapon pickups, advanced movement (air-control, ground- and air-acceleration, circle- and strafejumping, surfing, Bunnyhopping, Walljump, doublejump), wallbanging, optional loadouts or loadout based gamemodes maybe loadout capture the flag, spectator mode, demo recording and playback, anti cheat, different kinds of armor, grapple hook, optional backpack/inventory system with quickswitch hotkeys, sliding, low gravity, falldamage, player knockback, adjustable playerskins (brightskins), HUD editor, custom viewmodel positions, aiming down sights/zooming with proper mouse-sensitivity scaling, detailed option menus, multiplayer bots... There are so many interesting things that I would like to know about oldschool Arena FPS development
As far as I can recall the history, UE4 Unreal Tournament was kind of an open development project where the devs said they'll get as much of fans' feedback as possible which at some point ended up as a game made by the community of modders and some devs just pulling the strings on what they did and did not like in community suggestions (spoiler: some of pretty good ones were neglected regularly so the game took pretty strange direction). For quite some time, the game was 'early access' in a very raw and half-baked state, slowly being updated with new assets and content like user-made maps. So it continued for a few years until the sudden boom of Fortinte BR. Epic weren't working hard on it, the OG Fortnite was a meh Coop game with mediocre support and way more money were put into Paragon at the time. But the Battle Royale thing happened and Epic decided to throw everything they had into it, thus cancelling Paragon and putting UT on life support as well. Sadly. With Paragon having a dedicated community building their own versions of the game (sometimes of really great quality), I'm surprised there's no such thing going on for Unreal Tournament. The series is 20+ years old, dammit. I used to play it as a kid for a LOT. There are still people playing UT2004 just as there are Quake 3 players to this day. Please, give us the means to keep this brilliant game going.
the "community" around this game was walled off by the clique devs who were inundated with crap code and dodgy ideas. It didn't take long for this project to turn into something I personally didn't want to work towards. Which pissed me off at the time.
Great job .. It would be great if the UT community could get this up and working in UE5 as a full game, It might even give Epic a kick up the butt to lend a hand.
I realize I am a bit late to the party, but did you make that tutorial, where you show how to bring in the assets from the Unreal Tournament inside UE 4 or UE 5 ? That would be awesome, I think. Defo interested.
Hey, so I’m thinking of getting your survival course but I’m just wondering how long do you reckon it will take to be fully finished? As you said there will be 20 chapters and your currently on 7 (a month ago you where on six?) anyway looks awsome and I can’t wait to get it. (One problem, my computer barely handles UE5 and I lag and jump around just previewing the first person player template, so I’m going to have to get a new pc)
you should get a group of people together to try and port over ut4 to ue5, the reason ut4 died was because they never released the tools to finalize maps and assets , UE5 is unlimited, if we could get the base code ported, even from ut 2004, or ut3 to where we have fluid player movement, and game modes and stuff, idk. ive been trying to make a game based off a ut2004 mod and its alot of work, creating assets is hard
I see some issues with the lighting in dark areas where it's flickering and muddy looking. I'm sure it's due to the jump to UE5 and could be easily fixed.
Not quite. If you’re describing what I think you’re describing, then has to do with less lighting information available, so you see the flaws of the ray casting/denoising technique manifest.
thing is ut4 was getting developed completely by the community with 5 people at epic games merely implementing that shit epic said "NAH WE NEED THOSE 5 GUYS TO WORK ON FART NITE SO BYE BYE" and development was shut off
God, I was I had more time and resources to do this. I would LOVE to work on this. I still fondly remember my UT99 days, community and forums before social media was thing. Yeah the blueprints would be best to start from scratch, be re-done and there's a lot of awesome code on the marketplace we could utilize, so if we have access to the models/artwork, yeah this is definitely doable. If I had a month could at least get Facing Worlds done, 2-4 months a few more maps, DM TDM, basic multiplayer, and a UI system replicating the original UT99, 5-6 months to replicate the original client/server model.
damn Fortnite. So sad. Hope they will pick up the UT series again. I think Epic needs to make amends for all the crap they pulled in the last years with the Epic Store as cheap and corrupt competition harming all customers just to get a piece from the Steam cake. It would do good for the community to have a proper UT sequel and could even financially worth it for them.
Hello SP. First of all, kudos for your course in creating of the multiplayer survival game. I really learn a lot by following the lessons and get good ideas for my own projects. But now to the actual topic of the comment on this video. Yes. I'd love to see a lot more Unreal Turnement content. If my computer wasen't so infinetly outdated, I would have tried to covert Unreal Turnement to UE 5 for a long time. It's sad really. Because I, and many others enjoyed their earlier games. Sure- UT3 was a pretty mess. But, the 2K3-4 stuff was peak. My suggestion to the Devs- Check the old formula. Expand on what made it popular. Balance and play test it. Then give it to the people when it's capable of running on mid tier machines. If they did all this, and have it looking anywhere near as good as this. People would play it.
