Have you come up with a design for a 3D printed low profile hopper? I really want to get 1 or 2 of these blasters but not being able to see over the top is stopping me.
i bought a regular surge blaster from walmart and im pissed off because the piston inside doesnt reset correctly every time.. wasted my money.. its pure random. idk if i got a shitty one or if they all do that.. i literally watched it down the hopper resetting sometimes forward, sometimes back. so lame :(
The concern is not whether the plastic will break or not for gel balls. Cheap safety glasses can have a poor fit, coverage and distortion. I've had friends get hit in the space between the glasses and face and the gel ball splatters into the eye. Not fun. Easier to wear good quality goggles.

OK so they are both Very good the main advantage to a splatrball is its mag fed instead of top loading to me that makes a big difference in aiming. but dont get me wrong the one in this video is a very nice gel blaster.
They are very different. The UNLOCX continues to be an accurate, dependable blaster, but it has that stupid micro-USB-not-a-micro-USB charging port. It's got high velocity in a compact almost pistol size. SURGE XL has the simple gravity hopper that works with oversized glow gel balls that jam the mag fed blasters (UNLOCX only works with GELSTRIKE brand glow gel balls). It's slightly stronger, but less accurate than UNLOCX. It has too many annoying lights that give away your location in nighttime play (need to open up and disconnect the lights). The variable velocity makes it good for kids and adults..

I do like the variable velocity of the surge xl. Other than that the unlocx does seem to give a better bang for your buck. Thank you again for the videos and breakdowns.

Yes, it's a better blaster with a lot more features, and you don't have to worry about the mag failing or feed issues that are common with Splatrball. However the gravity hopper feed is a turn off to some, but it's simple and works.
When you freeze gel balls, the water expands. That means the gel ball size changes and won't fire correctly anymore. Just use airsoft gun if you want hard ammo.

Hardened gel balls like Warinterest 3.0 or Ausgel. They shot harder and more accurate.

Regular SURGE and most cheap blasters have no sensor, and therefore the piston stops at random positions.

Can you do an experiment and freeze the gel balls and see if the speed and accuracy changes?
When you freeze gel balls, the water expands. That means the gel ball size changes and won't fire correctly anymore. Just use airsoft gun if you want hard ammo.
You can buy hardened gel balls, check some of the enthusiast sites
