25 years and his achievement is building an open air market, what a shame. We need to raise our standards. Have you seen the towers in Bangkok and China that serve as markets complete with elevators where someone can do serious international business? Even Tz are in the process of building a state of the art mkt, we need to become serious with life as Kenyans.

As a freshman student in the US in 1979, Andrew Young who was then the US representative to the UN came to talk to policy analysis majors and when he heard I was a Kenyan student, he took interest in me and I can remember him telling me that Jomo Kenyatta was a forward thinking president because he appointed ministers based on merit not sycophancy. Maina Wanjigi, Dr. Njoroge Mungai, Odongo Omamo, and Dr. Gikonyo Kiano are some names he mentioned. It made me proud to be a Kenyan. Today, when Americans ask me about Ruto, I feel ashamed.

@@osodowilberforce2321those of us who were of age during Jomo Kenyatta days know what a functional government is like. The young generation have been fed with bullshit stories eti aliiba mashamba but I lived those days, Kenyatta, Uhuru, and Kibaki knew what they were doing.

My necktop reminds me that in 1977 when I was in standard two, I was given a green ten shilling note as school fees which I took to the headmaster's office and he wrote me a receipt for school fees which I took to my dad. I remember it because it's the only time I was given to do it personally because my parents always used to do it themselves. I don't know if some schools were still paying or what was happening. But I remember too Moi's building fund the later activity fee etc.

Jimi Richard Wanjigi is perfect and according to tradition. Perhaps he doesn't like using the father's name as surname.

You forgot to mention that he came from abroad and on landing at JKIA, je went staight to Muoroto and he was sacked.
But thanks for the history. Now we know the father of free primary education. No wonder Kibaki implemented it so easily.
