  • Many military leaders struggle to define mission command to their subordinates and their units. Listen to Colonel Eric Lopez give a detailed description of what mission command really means.

Army officer here, a big counter to moving towards the right is micromanaging (lack of trust OR leadership focused on pushing their own careers)

Eric, Just linked to this by my command here at Womack AMC, Ft. Bragg. I haven't seen you since Iraq in 2006. Glad to see you're still leading Soldiers.

That was great sir- I'll def use this when explaining it to my soldiers. Might I suggest also giving some fictional examples- You may be able to explain it with characters such as Picard etc. in the way that they interacted with subordinates- It will be something people can remember when thinking about it on their own or use it a lens when they watch future films/television series to judge how well a leader implemented either Command and Control or Mission Command

Awesome skinny, Eric! Thank you for sharing! Great, simple visual analogy to reflect the relationship between Command & Control and Mission Command and how necessary trust is IOT be effective.

Trust is subjective. At what point are your subordinate commanders trusted? Where exactly is that point? What does trust look like?

This is something I had always struggled to understand and had nobody to really sit with me and help me. This helps. This gives understanding to what I'm reading in ADP 6-0. THIS subject is what killed me at my SSG promotion board last month.

Sir, this is a very succinct summation of Mission Command. Thank you. I may quote this in my paper.
