I bought my Chiiiiiina sewing machine like 3 years ago I opened the box put it together and saw how 💩 it was and never touched it again until I ran across your videos. I immediately went and dug it out of the garage. I finally got the damn thing to sew about 2-3" inches worth and would bust the thread. Lol. I haven't done anything to it and after doing that it has made me want to do more. I ordered a new needle bar and dermal engraver I'm doing to try and sew with the biggest thread I can. Thanks for your very well how to do video's they could be 2 hour video's and I would still watch them don't ever think they are to long. You explain everything to detail.. keep up the video's, now I'm going to file and buff the bobbing assembly and get it ready to handle the bigger thread. If I fail I'll buy another one at 120.00 LOL. OH I heard you mention a 24 needle I couldn't find that one so, it's going to take filing and make it for the rounded needles.. thanks again for all your teachings..👍👍👍 ❤
I wish you many blessings for Thanksgiving and hope you're healthy and your family is too. I ordered my threads and have them. Setting up my machine after I clean it .

Just a FYI. I use a size 21, round shank 135x17 industrial sewing needle (1.75" odd long) in a 1903 made Singer 27 treadle machine with great success. No modifications required. It uses typical HAX1 and it appears anything up to 2mm shank diameter. I have even used 10G hand embroidery thread on the treadle, with no issues. The bobbin doesnt like that 1mm gauge hand embroidery thread in it though, and it much prefers a 12wt-50wt cotton thread in the bobbin, whilst it works with the massive thread and big needle. Goes through 10 layers of thin leather (1mm- 1.5mm?) and it causes me to think about whether I need this patching machine. However, I am sure this patcher will do much better with shoe soles, etc, especially when I plan to make car tyre soled sandals, etc.
thank you for directing me to the right thread sizes and the web sights that have them. i almost broke my quarantine with disgust over how to find my thread and needle sizes. now i can go on with my cabin fever in relative peace. just ordered my china sewing machine yesterday. would be nice to see you sew a few different materials like denim and cotton. maybe you have an old shirt or crappy pants laying around. to show the machines versatility, i think it can sew this stuff but i haven't seen anyone do it. just subscribed with notification on. good videos.
I with a lot of folks have had trouble tearing thread on the second or third rotation. I did everything I could to make mine work and now works.! I turned the needle with round out and flat in groove, took apart all needle area and polishing the bobbin and channel the thread goes through, and aligned arm to center the needle. It’s frustrating but can be fixed!
I’m having the same issue. I set it up and the thread bunches or pops. The machine gets stuck. I’ve set the bobbin, polished it, I think I need to order new needles but an info on how you fixed yours?

Great videos, liked and subscribed! I have a YUEWO machine showing up next week and have been pouring over your videos. Very helpful, thanks for sharing 👍🤠
Hi. Thanks for the videos. I don't have enough experience yet, so it's a lot to absorb. I do appreciate the guide to convert thread sizes from one chart to another. I will have to watch this more than once or twice... a Part 2 to this video showing examples and closeups of the thread in a subset of the materials you actually use and why you chose that thread (along with its needle) for that purpose would be very useful -- if you want another idea for a video. Thanks!
@@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks thanks for sharing your experience with us newbies. I've sewn all my life and occasionally leather both by hand and a bit on my regular sewing machine, but that does not equate to enough experience to know what threads and needles to order for what leathers or fabrics. I do understand some of the issues you talked about, that they exist, like the reason for waxing the thread. So much to learn. (BTW, my machine is not up and running well yet. It'll be a bit of time before we can get to it. But I do have projects waiting, and many ideas... have to be patient, it's taken me 35 years since I first saw one of these machines to actually find one to buy! )
Great video and a lot of very useful information. I do want to ask though, you didnt talk about the bobbins. what can you tell us about the bobbins on these machines and the thread sizes . thanks.
I wouldn't recommend one of these machine then, the heaviest thread these machine can handle is T207. Plus the large thread takes up alot of space in your already small bobbin.
Just wanted to say thanks for the videos on this machine. I recently got one for myself for leather projects. I have been doing hand-stitch for all my leather stuff but recently got asked to do a guitar strap for a friend an decided to give one of these a try. Definitely a little bit of heartache...thinking I could just use the same thread I hand-stitch with...definitely too thick...haha. I'm in Maine as well! How did you ever make out on that Singer sewing machine? Someone near me was selling one but went with this Chinese one instead as it seemed like the sure fire to go through thick leather...but thought it would be cool to have an old singer in my shop that could do thick leather as well. Do you use the singer for thick leather? Thanks!
So… for the person that wants to get started and wants to sew vinyl and thinner leather for upholstery. And just a good all around size and style for most things to get started????
Intresting video you made. Im trying to think of a way to get more thread on the crappy small bobbin on this machine. Wondering if it may even be possible to have an external roll going via the bobbin?. That would be an engineering marvel. Save tons of mucking around time with bobbin changes ect. Do you run the same size thread on your bobbin as from the top of your machine main thread?. Cause 207 + size thead even 138 will not allow for much sewing. Thats the down fall of this machine in my opinion.
There is no way to get more out of these little bobbins. I have seen many people try, but nothing successful yet. Yes, I use the same size on top and bottom and your right it does not hold much.
Hi I have watched most all your vedios and thank you for makeing them . I wanted to know how to lessen the pressure on the pressure foot of the hand crank machine and what your thoughts are on that. Another problem I am having with stitching on my leather work is when I am sewing a pouch my crawls and I end with top piece shorter than the bottom one . Can you tell me how to correct this problem?
Btw my machine is high shank. Excuse my nativity, I don’t know if that makes a difference. I’ve used it with five layers of cotton, batting and insulbrite and it was like a hot knife through butter
I just looked at one of your videos again. I’m threading the needle from the wrong side. I’m just not having any success with this machine. I ordered some new tension wheels. Also, when I’m threading, the eye, buy the screw is always tight. There always seems to be too much tension. I’ve loosened the tension spring, but it still seems tight. I just don’t know.
What size of needle does that hand crank machine use? Is it the same size or kind of sewing machine needle that I would use in my home conventional sewing machine like a Singer or Brother? What is the total length of the needle including the shank? 39mm or longer? Is it a flat or round shank needle?
Your videos have been super helpful! I am having a problem with needles breaking, I get a handful of stitches done (including a few back stitches) then all of a sudden, I get resistance when the needles connects with the leather. If I try to continue, the needle snaps. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? Any chance I missed a video you talked about this on? Thanks!
I going to guess the material is binding and not allowing the needle to meet back with the hole in the top plate. I would need to see your machine to be sure
Hi Thank you for the video. I ordered a few threads… but never got what I wanted. I am looking for same kind of thread that was sent with the “Chinese sowing machine” ( As I was happy with the results)… Would you have a link of where I could purchase please ? Thank you and all the best :)
Do you have any links to a 140/22 needle with a 15x1 shank? The Amazon links you have posted with the videos don’t carry that size any more. Any help is appreciated.
i’m looking to be sewing hockey skates. it’s harder plastic, a bit of composite and some synthetic leather. what’s your recommendation for needle size and thread weight for that?
I use Amazon, here are a couple links: Needles: Sewing Machine Needles HAX1~15x1 for Chinese Sewing Machine. (8 Packs) Size 8,11,12,14, 16,18,21,22.----amzn.to/3aYntKu 10PCS /Pack/Size Organ Flat Shank 15X1 HAX1 130/705H Size 8,11,12,14,16,18,21,22 for Choose Home Sewing Machine Needles Brother Singer (Size 21)---- amzn.to/3d9pUez
That sounds like a timing issue. The thread is does wrap around the bobbin to make a locking stitch, but I am guessing it's wrapping up so much it's binding correct?
Is #69 T70 the biggest size that can run though the bobbin? I can run pretty large on top but the bobbin is much smaller. If not, whats the largest thread for the bobbin.
What about bobbin thread for these machines? Is it supposed to be lighter weight like in a normal sewing machine or can you just use the same thread on the bobbin?
Can I use round shaft needles with my shoe patcher machine? I'm trying to use some T90 thread and only have large size needles in round shaft and the thread immediately breaks at the needle insertion in the material.
Good morning, I’m sure that you already did a video on pooping the upper thread. Can you respond with the name of the video that you did it on. Much appreciated thanks
If your popping the upper thread it could be a few different issues: Needle bar needs to be adjusted further down, so you can feel the tip of the needle. Bobbin timing is off, Cam timing is off, bobbin tension set too tight, not the right kind of thread... and so on. I do offer one on one video help if your interested.
I just bought one and still learning how to set it up. The tension it’s no good. The thread is lose on the top of the leather and some times I don’t know what but breaks the thread
You can modify the needle bar to accept the industrial needles and make the hole in the top plate larger. Take a round file and round out the flat part on the needle driver. But then your limited on the amount of thread the bobbin can hold
Hi there - and thanks for your great videos. I am still a bit confused with the correct needle size I need to be purchasing. I am sewing thick saddle leather, and I have a spool of Guterman Tera 10 'Col 694' 100% polyester. The needle needs to fit the same machine as what you have - but with a large eye to accommodate this thread. What would you recommend? Thanks so much for your help.
From what I looked up that thread is a size 290 (Tex). That thread is way to big to use on these machines. The largest recommend thread size is a 207 (Tex).
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks Thank you for your response. I will find some 207. What needle size / brand would you recommend for 207? Thank you and I hope all is well.
No worries, I am here to help. I would use a 140/22 size needle on a HAx1 shank. If you want to use name brand needles for leather you will need to modify the needle bar to accept them. These machine run the HAx1/15x1 shank.
my machine seems to push my needle towards me, not allowing it to go into the bobbin hole, causing the needle to break, any idea what would cause this or how to fix it?
It sounds like you may need to realign your sewing arm. Loosen the three bolts under your sewing arm, then lower the needle in the bobbin well and tighten the bolts back up.
Mainely Acres Hi, I just bought the machine. Somehow my needle keeps breaking. I see u have already replied but I’m still a rookie and do not understand what you are saying. I don’t know where the sewing arm is or the bolt? Thank you
Hi Harrison, I have went thru all your set up vids and still cannot get the top thread to stop breaking at the bobbin shuttle. Yes, everything is polished, timed per your videos, T135 Bonded Nylon thread, #21 HA needle and nothing seems to be working. HELP,. lol
I’m sorry but I’m having the toughest time figuring out what needle to buy for the thread I have. The thread size is 150D according to Amazon, and the measurement is 0.03”/1mm. What needle would I buy for my Chinese sewing machine?
Hi, thanks for you awesome videos. I just got my machine yesterday and I had bought the T270 thread at the same time. But the machine came with size 18 needle so I could not use. Today I went and got the T135 thread from Tandy and also a size 20 needle. Unfortunately I can't get the machine going as the top thread jams up in the bobbin area between bobbin holder. so I checked the timing video of yours and set it up as you recommended, crank at 12 o'clock and bobbin carrier at 3 o'clock. still the thread jams. Then I changed to mono filament and it works fine. Any suggestions? I noticed there is hardly any gap between bobbin holder and the bobbin well wall. did you polish or grind anything in this area? BobThanks in advance.
The largest thread size recommended for these machines is T207, but I recommend the T138 because there is only so much room in the bobbin. Are you using a HAx1 needle shank or did you modify the needle bar? Your issue sounds like a needle bar height issue or a timing issue. Yes, I polished the bobbin case, bobbins and the bobbin well with my Dremel.
I really need help. I’m sewing leather. I got a Chinese sewing machine and it was working perfectly fine at first UNTIL my needle snapped and I got the shmetz “leather” needles 110/18 and when I try to start stitching it won’t move foward. It kinda just stays in the spot and it just keeps on making multiples stitches in the same spot.. I’ve tried adjusting stitch length but doesn’t make a difference. I’ve tried messing with the tensions and nothing seems to work.
I am new to leather craft and i know even less about sewing needles and threads. Currently I make holsters. I hand stitch using waxed thread which has been great but very time consuming and sometimes painful. I bought a chyna cobbler sewing machine and bought #277 T270 840D Polly thread which I thought was bonded nylon but it wasn't. I paired it with 130/21 needles. I am using 8-9oz leather. Is this setup good for thia leather thickness? Thoughts?
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks right now I'm not sure exactly what ill be using most of the time. Still experimenting with thread size. Ill look at some t207. Thank you for the info and reply. Cheers.
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks yeah 277 is to thick. Im snapping needles and the thread is bunching up on the bottom side. IM going to try #138 T135 bonded nylon thread with the 130/21 needles. Hopefully the thread isn't to thick to cause the bunching and broken needle... I was only sewing 2 pieces of 2mm 5oz leather. Only did one stitch before the chaos haha.
I use a whitout pen to write any numbers on my spools it does`nt come off very well ,Plus for matching threads nd needles , I`ve got a Phaff 408 industrial Tailoring machine , I want one of these chinese machines so bad .
Hello! Watching your videos, I decided to buy one of these through ebay. The guy I bought from turned out to be a crook. He made a shipping label, but never shipped it. That was nearly a month ago. Ebay refunded my money, and I found another seller with better feedback, but now I'm gun shy. Where did you get your machine? I still want one.
I have a unit just like his that I have not used if you are interested? It does need a stud and bearing. I could fix it or you could and would be priced accordingly. I was told in these comments how to fix it, and it sounds like they knew what they are talking about. I’ve never actually used the tool other than to try it out, which is when the bearing broke. I bought an industrial sewing machine and was wondering what to do with this. Just leave a comment if you are interested. Thanks
Can someone please answer my question? Why does my thread keep breaking? When I thread my machine, it is too tight when it goes through the tension spools. How do I adjust these? I loosened them as far as they would go, but there must be another way to do this that I am not aware of.
Hi, I got my machine Friday. I put it together and it doesn't sew. The needle does not catch the bobbin thread. It actually seems like it doesn't go all the way into the hole it stops at the tip of the plate.
I am sorry for not getting to your comment until now. If you end up getting another one, let me know and I will try to be better about answering comments.
Thanks for the video. I had so much trouble finding a video where someone talks about the thread vis a vis the needle size. I’m a new quilter and bag maker, {soft bags, mostly made of cotton and batting). I have a semi industrial machine called the brother pq1500sl and it comes with hlx5 needles designed for high speed quilting machines and to sew through many layers and intersections. Some of them are titanium. I bought 30wt mercerized cotton thread for my top stitching parts and the product recommends a 12/80 needle but that sounds too small a needle in my opinion . What do you think I should use with my 30wt cotton? Thank you
I’m an eye doctor just curious about patch perhaps I can offer advice. Sorry if I’m invade your privacy but only way to reach you. Best of luck and great videos.
No worries, I lost my eye to a gunshot when I was 16. They tried saving the eye by doing a scleral buckle, but it did not hold. I then had an enucleation followed by a Gunderson flap. I wore a prosthetic eye for the longest time, but I had another incident that stopped me from being able to wear it. I would need another graft to wear a prosthetic.
Great job, no fluff, quick info, applicable.

15x1 or HAx1 is the needle post size and 110/18 is the needle size length/eye size.

Might be one of two things: the needle bar needs to be adjusted further down or the timing is off.
Govt grade thread is certified mil spec standard .
Thank you for sharing
I just looked at one of your videos again. I’m threading the needle from the wrong side. I’m just not having any success with this machine. I ordered some new tension wheels. Also, when I’m threading, the eye, buy the screw is always tight. There always seems to be too much tension. I’ve loosened the tension spring, but it still seems tight. I just don’t know.
If you want I can meet up with you via video chat to help you get rolling.

I'd like that very much. What app do you have? I have zoom.
No worries, I use Skype or Facebook messenger.
So on Amazon which needles do I order for my Chinese machine? I will be sewing heavy leather and car upholstery
I would need to see your machine to be sure
thank you!
You're welcome!
Hi
Thank you for the video. I ordered a few threads… but never got what I wanted. I am looking for same kind of thread that was sent with the “Chinese sowing machine” ( As I was happy with the results)… Would you have a link of where I could purchase please ? Thank you and all the best :)
I order all my thread through Amazon or eBay, just look for bonded nylon.
Do you have any links to a 140/22 needle with a 15x1 shank? The Amazon links you have posted with the videos don’t carry that size any more. Any help is appreciated.
I don't know of any off the top of my head, but I will look into that for you.
Where did all the amazon links to the needles and thread go
Had some issues with the links, will update soon.
i’m looking to be sewing hockey skates. it’s harder plastic, a bit of composite and some synthetic leather. what’s your recommendation for needle size and thread weight for that?
If there is a 1 place to order from, what is favorite website for needles?
I use Amazon, here are a couple links: Needles:

I just bough a shoe pach a machine and I love it I would like to know if you could tell me the size of thred the that comes with it
Just bought mine and it has what I believe is a size 69 thread. And I think it is polyester. That’s my best guess
What diameter of monofilament fishing line would be best in one of these cobblers?
My question is for lightweight leather work.
I don't remember off the top of my head, but I will find my spool and get back to you.
Ok. I have the bobbin working. The thread keeps wrapping around the bobbin when I crank. Help.
That sounds like a timing issue. The thread is does wrap around the bobbin to make a locking stitch, but I am guessing it's wrapping up so much it's binding correct?
Mainely Acres
Yes, it keeps breaking the thread. The bobbin seems to be working.
Yeah, the only two issues it can be is a timing issue or the needle bar depth.
I would like to use the 140/22 needle but with a leather chisel point but can’t find a supplier
Is #69 T70 the biggest size that can run though the bobbin? I can run pretty large on top but the bobbin is much smaller. If not, whats the largest thread for the bobbin.
I have a white rotary sewing machine that I use for leather work. But I want to use nylon. What needle size do I need for my machine?
What about bobbin thread for these machines? Is it supposed to be lighter weight like in a normal sewing machine or can you just use the same thread on the bobbin?
I think I'll avoid Facebook for now.
And by now I mean forever.
Is there any other way to get at that info?
Hi why haven’t you mentioned polyester thread is bonded nylon better thanks
I just bought one and still learning how to set it up. The tension it’s no good. The thread is lose on the top of the leather and some times I don’t know what but breaks the thread
Make sure to check out my complete playlist on this machine for further help.
What needle thread and needle would you recommend for sewing seat belt straps ??
T138 thread on a size 20 needle.
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks very good thank you much
Some needles are slightly too large for the hole in the bobbin covering plate. If I bore that hole slightly larger, will that cause me other problems?
No, that should be fine.
Not on Facebook, but would like to use #277 thread, I think a #180 size 24 needle could be modified to work. Any ideas?
You can modify the needle bar to accept the industrial needles and make the hole in the top plate larger. Take a round file and round out the flat part on the needle driver. But then your limited on the amount of thread the bobbin can hold
I was thinking of modifying the needle instead of the bar. Using a dremel tool to grind the needle.
Thank you
The best option would be to meet up on a video chat. I can meet on Facebook or Skype for $30 USD an hour.
Hi Harrison, I have went thru all your set up vids and still cannot get the top thread to stop breaking at the bobbin shuttle. Yes, everything is polished, timed per your videos, T135 Bonded Nylon thread, #21 HA needle and nothing seems to be working. HELP,. lol
What do I need to do to the bobbin
I’m sorry but I’m having the toughest time figuring out what needle to buy for the thread I have. The thread size is 150D according to Amazon, and the measurement is 0.03”/1mm. What needle would I buy for my Chinese sewing machine?
Sir i have a old Adler patcher best needle and thread for making wallet
That's great!!
I am available to help via video chat if you still need help.
Thoughts?
The thickest thread recommended for these machine is T207, so I wouldn't buy one if you need something over that thickness.
It shouldn't, I use Teflon coated 138 with no issues
What tension do you have your bobbin set at for the #138 thread? Or did you take the tension spring off? cheers.@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks
I use a whitout pen to write any numbers on my spools it does`nt come off very well ,Plus for matching threads nd needles , I`ve got a Phaff 408 industrial Tailoring machine , I want one of these chinese machines so bad .
Thanks for sharing that tip!!
Thanks
I bought my machine from: www.bantamsaddletack.com/Sewing-Machinery_c_20.html
Where is a good place too get needles?
eBay and Amazon for the cheaper options and Bantam Saddle Tack for quality
Can someone please answer my question? Why does my thread keep breaking? When I thread my machine, it is too tight when it goes through the tension spools. How do I adjust these? I loosened them as far as they would go, but there must be another way to do this that I am not aware of.
Let me know if the thread stand was the issue. Best of luck on your sewing projects.
Can i use 346 nylon thread on this machine?
T207 is the max thread size you can use on these machines effectively
Hi, I got my machine Friday. I put it together and it doesn't sew. The needle does not catch the bobbin thread. It actually seems like it doesn't go all the way into the hole it stops at the tip of the plate.
the needle bar should just barley sit on the walking foot when the foot is in the up position, there is a screw at the top to adjust the needle bar.
Jackie Sanders thanks ups picked it up this morning I sent it back I didn’t think I’d get a reply. I just got refunded an hour ago.
Thank you
I would go with a 100/16
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks thanks!
