- We are already counting down to the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku. We do that by looking back to recent editions of Europe's favorite TV show. This time we go to 2005, when the contest was held in Kiev, Ukraine
Chiara represented Malta in the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest with the song 'Angel'. She came second in the grand final in Kiev - Розваги
How can a voice be that beautiful? Is hard to believe she is singing live, is flawless.
I was rather surprised that we in Russia gave her 12 pts and we were the only country to do that. She was stunning.

I thought compared to 1997 she was a little off on the night possibly due to an infection, rehearsals or over-promotion.

This song was 3rd in running order, and 192 televote-only points are impressive. I think that if she had been like 20th, she would've won. Malta still managed to snatch 2nd place with no neighbor votes, no gimmicks, just one voice and one talented woman!

+George Austin Tay if voting was 50/50 in 2005 she also probably would've won too, 03 has been quite a lucky slot in recent years actually! last year Israel were 9th, 2013 Moldova were 11th, Albania + Denmark were 5th in 2012+1 & France 8th in 2009.
Everyone is like "Cyprus, Bulgaria, Albania, Turkey" NO it was also the UK, Sweden, Belgium and other countries that are not neighbours to Greece... Btw Greece and Turkey are considered "enemies" so they didn't vote for us because we're neighbours, they simply liked the song... Come on, Malta was great indeed, but not the proper song to win the contest... Everyone would forget it after two days... It's just a nice ballad... Our song on the other hand became a hit, everyone was dancing at it, even non-Greeks... And it was also very representative of our culture... I think it deserved to win!
No, it's because there are a lot of Greeks living on emigration in Sweden. They grabbed their phones and voted for their country.
This ballad was nice, but she singing it live made it beautiful. Her permorfance was excellent and made the song go straight to your heart. Greatings from Spain

I am Greek, and though Greece won that year, I have listened to and sung Chiara's song, Angel 10x as much as My Number One over the intervening years. This signals its greatness to me. God bless you Malta Queen.

I still remembered that day, not only because Greece won, but also remember how wonderful Chiara's voice sounded and how all in the room we know from that moment that she was the top favorite against us. I really expect us to lose from these voice..

Still my winner. Amazing song, the best vocalist by far. I agree 3rd in the draw killed her chances. When Russia announced her getting the 12 saying "we tried" I burst into tears.

Chiara obviously has an exceptional voice which I totally found catchy and sentimental, as her song was simply brought to majority of public. The singer fantastically interpretred the song.

Τι κομματάρα έστειλε εκείνη την χρονιά η Μάλτα και η φωνή της κιάρα αγγελική καταπληκτική ειδικά απο το λεπτό 2:18 στην κορύφωση του τραγουδιού
έδειξε πόσο δυναμική φωνή έχει.
Αλλα στάθηκε ατυχή γιατί βρήκε μπροστά της την Έλενα Παπαρίζου που έσκισε τότε.Πολύ καλή προσπάθεια της Μάλτα και μία απο τις πιο δυνατότερες συμμετοχές της στον διαγωνισμό(κατά την γνώμη μου η καλύτερη της συμμετοχή απο τότε που εμφανίστηκε στην Eurovision)

I remember thinking that song is the winner. I was wrong though. The greek song was good also but this was the golden one. Around 1:20 and 2:19 and 2:33 ppl start to applause.

This should have been the winner that year. Amazing song and amazing vocals. The moment when this song was a candidate to represent Malta, I remember saying "this has winner vibes". Fast forward to Eurovision, she nearly did it. If she had been drawn later, and if we had the juries like we have now she'd have won. The Greek winner is also good, but this was miles better.
If you consider that juries promote Malta like crazy, of course she would have won.
