Photojournalism is a way to tell a story, and that story is created by the moments you capture in the field. Sometimes it's enough that events unfold in front of you, but sometimes a portrait helps tell that story better than anything else. People often wonder if it's possible to do powerful, intimate portraits without access to lights or studio.
Stephanie Sinclair spent the better part of the last 20 years integrating portrait photography into her documentary field work. In this video, Stephanie shares the backstories to some of her most iconic images, many of which are portraits made while on assignment for National Geographic and The New York Times.
Topics will range from conflict situations to gender issues, polygamy and the genetic condition of albinism.
Stephanie explains the many advantages to creating a portrait in your subject’s natural environment. Other topics will include camera and lens choice for low light situations, often needed for on location portraits.

Stephanie, thank you for sharing these beautiful stories with us and enlightening us on a lot of these issues. You had me glued to my screen right from the beginning till the end. The last picture brought it all together to show how much you are emotionally invested into the different experiences you are exposed to through your photojournalism. Thank you B and H also for this Event Space and I am subscribed to see more!
Not only is the video really interesting, from a journalistic point of view, and is a good medium to raise awareness about this issue, but the portraits are absolutely amazing ! I'm glad I stumbled on this video and discovered this truly great photographer :)
Beautiful stories! Thank you Stephanie, for spreading awareness on all these issues.
Wow Stephanie! Amazing work!
The only thing more powerful than her photographs are the stories behind them. Fantastic work! Thank you for sharing!
She mentioned the organization Too Young To Wed several times. Please consider including a link it in the description. I looked it up and it seems to be tooyoungtowed.org They seems to be doing a lot of good, I hope they get much needed support for future projects.
1 hour video?
Yes! So what?
