I dont gaf what anyone says I still love Dokken no matter what and if given the opportunity I would definitely go see them play ! Sure they're older , but aren't we all ? George has still got it. They are one of my favorite bands from an era that I will have forever etched in my mind ! I will always back them up 100 % !!!!!

Well, if you read my above comment, you'll see ( hear lol ) that you didn't miss anything at the Show in Iowa on 10/2/2021. The live Sound Engineer completely SUCKED, as the Live Sound Mix was terribly bright and fatiguing, and as good as Jon Levin is, I was expecting George on guitar that night, who wasn't in stage.

The last few videos I’ve seen of George playing Dokken tunes has been amazing. He had gotten a little loose/sloppy over the years and improvised more but now seems to be hitting it note for note and proving why he’s always been one of the best. Why do you say that? George was playing through his own amp and pedals. It was the same setup his used for his own set, just different cabs. I mean everyone watched his tech bring out the pedals. His head was behind the 4 cabs set up. On George's insta he ran through the setup and even answered the question was it the same amp. Plus Levin wasn't this dam loud either. George was louder than the pa. He had moving blankets over the cabs in his set. Now im not taking away from Kevin at all, he's a beast in his own right and probably the best replacement for George in Dokken there could be, but he isn't responsible for George's sound here, George is.

  • @benbryson6598

George is killing it here. We all know don can't hit the highs anymore but he's trying to find a new lower range. Would upping Don's volume in the mix help or hurt the sound as he'd have to strain less but would be more prominent in the mix?

@@Wesley8Bit Exactly. Just have to adapt as you get older. I mean, I saw 38 Special live about 9 years ago, 2x in the same year -- at a Hard Rock, and then for our local restaurant's annual festival. Just got lucky because the shows were free -- one a gift, and the other I happened to be working as a volunteer at a beer tent. Sounded EXACTLY like their album and radio play. Flawless. Hard to do, and it was the second show that amazed me, that they could sound exactly like the Hard Rock show, in an outdoor venue. Now that I am semi-retired, I have been studying George's technique and tricks for the past 7 years. I am not one for doing covers, but I want to learn certain techniques to recreate the tone, or notes. Its Not Love, and In My Dreams were the first two songs I took lessons to learn the basics of playing, over 35 years ago, and you can hear his influence in my style of playing. I have never intentionally went to a concert for an artist (headliner or opening act) that I bought a ticket for (WASP, Poison, RATT, Warrant, Great White, Kingdom Come, Cheap Trick) and expected to hear what I could listen to on a CD, radio, or by watching a video (back then). I actually want to see them doing what George does, which is be inspired by hearing the music again and feeling the energy of the crowd. The key parts of the song retained, and whipping up some stuff from the creative side of the brain. I feel that Don should evolve, embrace who he is, now older, and be inspired by the story of the song -- re-make it, and re-master it. That is how the catalogs of other artists live on, but other people put their inspirational spin on it. (How many times has the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" been re-made in some form? One of my other favorite bands, Queensryche has seen Geoff Tate re-record and remaster some of their most famous songs. I would not fault Don for doing this, and if he has already, I have not seen it (which would then imply there is a problem with marketing and exposure, which they never seemed to lack in the 80's & 90's). I can neither confirm, nor deny this rumor. But I "heard" that Don Dokken and Vince Neil both share the same vocal coach whom also doubles as their personal trainer 🤷‍♂️

It's called getting old and one day you will be old too. Growing old gracefully is still doing the stuff you love despite not being on the same level you once were.

I know there's a lot of love here and I share that. But no way this vocal can pass. Don is legendary and will always be one of my favorite singers. But I don't know what he is thinking putting this on stage. Or what George and us and everyone else are thinking going along with this. Love and respect are one thing, but this is not right. Don't do it if you can't sing it.

He had throat surgery years ago and then didn't let it heal correctly. And never relearned. He will never sing again like he use to. I agree, he shouldn't be singing at all because it isn't even close to good.
