    In part 2 of our Camper Build Series, I show you how to build the base for your camper. We previously discussed how to choose the frame for your overland square drop camper trailer. Now we can actually start building on top of our trailer frame. These same methods would apply to a teardrop trailer, micro camper, and a squaredrop camper. Please comment below if you have any questions. All parts for this part of the camper build can be found below.

    Just wanted to send a big thanks your way for creating this video series. We recently came back from a camping trip in Canada where we tent camped, and decided that a DIY teardrop camper is right up our alley. All of the other videos are time lapses of the build, and yours so far has clear and concise examples and directions. I’m really excited to keep watching your series. Thanks again.

      Danny, thanks so much for being here to watch our videos. I completely agree with you. I feel like there either was no explanation at all or WAY TOO MUCH explanation. Hopefully, I can find that middle ground. Feel free to reach out with any questions and I can walk you through any of my processes. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

    I've been watching videos on campers like this for a long time. The only thing I would do differently sofar is use pressure treated for the base. I've have never built one but fixed a lot and water always wins!

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  Рік тому +1

      Good point. I worried a bit about using pressure treated wood somewhere my family would be sleeping because of potential arsenic. Since no part of the camper is in contact with the ground, I figured as long as I sealed everything up correctly, I would be ok. I also sealed the underside of the camper with a rubberized coating. We'll see how it holds up against the test of time. So far, so good.
      Thanks for taking the time to watch my video. I appreciate the support!

      @@FunkeAdventures I completely understand! I was to understand they have pressure treated lumber that no longer uses arsenic. I could be completely wrong as well!! I would think just inspecting it a 2 or 3 times a year should do the trick. Last one I helped a friend work on we put 3 coats of Raptor liner on it. Been perfect sofar.

      @@bambambundy6 Nice, I have used both raptor liner and a rubberized undercoating for underneath different campers. I'm interested to see which holds up better.

    Finally starting my build. Got the trailer almost ready. I was wondering, the 2 7/8" head lock screws that replace lag bolts: do they penetrate the steel below the 2 x 4's? Did you pre-drill the steel or can I use my driver? Thank you in advance?

    For these parts for the base since there could be some moisture, are you using regular lumber or pressure treated?

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  8 місяців тому

      Just regular lumber, but I have it sealed up really well. Since it doesn't stay in contact with the ground, I don't worry about it as much. Thanks for watching!

    Hey brother, love the series ! I just ordered my trailer, I had a question for you. Are you using treated plywood? And would you recommend treated plywood? If not what would you recommend and what did you use? Thank you so much.

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  Рік тому +1

      Hey Mark! Thanks for watching the video series. I appreciate the support. I prefer not to use treated plywood. There are some health concerns with using it especially in a place where you may sleep (arsenic). I'm not sure it is even necessary. Usually in buildings, the only place where treated plywood is required is when it is in contact with concrete floor, dirt, or anywhere else where it may sit in moisture. In the camper it didn't really seem necessary. Any moisture that may spray up underneath the camper should be pretty minimal dry off pretty easily. Just for peace of mind, I put a layer of Rustoleum rubberized undercoating on the bottom surface of the exterior camper.

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  Рік тому +1

      Instead, I would recommend just using 3/4 inch plywood, and coating it with KILZ anti-mold and mildew before putting your exterior siding on. Then if you wanted, you could add that rustoleum rubberized undercoating on the bottom side of the camper. Hope that helps!

    I’ve got a 5x9 trailer I’ve had for probably 20 years, still in good shape, i use it for work sometimes to haul air conditioners. I don’t use it often but I do use it occasionally. I’d like to use this trailer as the base for my camper and just install the camper on it when I plan to go camping. I have a full size Skid steer with forks with a 3,000 lb lift capacity I can use for loading and unloading the camper. My question is, how would I go about making the base of the camper keeping this in mind. Could I built like a large pallet under the camper as the base so I could fork it off? Or should I build the camper on skids? Just unsure what the best way would be. Any advice would be appreciated

    • @FunkeAdventures
      @FunkeAdventures  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching the video Cameron! I actually did this exact same thing with my first camper. It was built on skids and could slide right off of the trailer base. I had removable bolts that went through the skids and bolted to some metal plates on my trailer frame. You can kind of see it in this video at the 8:25 minute mark. ua-cam.com/video/Jnsc1BzkB5s/v-deo.html
