Cows have a way of changing your day’s plans, don’t they? Haha! As you start down the rabbit hole of old farm equipment, you’ll start running into more and more square head nuts and bolts. They’re still readily available and you may want to consider investing in an eight-point socket set for them. Enjoyed watching your fix and your cow update!

Hey Tyler I was noticing all of your old wood fences. We used to take any old wood stain we could find and mix it with linseed oil and used motor oil and then brush it on those older wood fences and they seemed to last a lot longer. Of course in California I wouldn't tell very many people that I was using used motor oil to do that. It will keep that wood from rotting, especially down next to the ground.
Old timers here said that the moon phase had a lot to do with the dirt out of the hole. They said if you dig a hole in the dark of the moon, it won’t have enough dirt to fill back up. If the hole is dug in the light of the moon, you will have extra dirt. Ole hillbilly wivestales maybe but we still go by some of them
Go to farm sales, get yourself those "coral panels", not cattle panels. Start a small stockpile of those. Those work great to fix such a small fencing area. I've had to do this so many times before and you discovered why I absolutely hate wooden fencing for cattle. Either go with barb wire, cattle panels, corral panels or pipe fencing. While digging your holes, let the auger go in so far, shut the pto off, raise, turn the pto on, this also cleans off the auger and piles the dirt around the hole, this method clears the hole much easier and faster. I've never had the issue of not having enough dirt, quite the opposite really. Now, cap your posts or paint them or tar them, otherwise, rain will just soak straight down and cause rot and they'll rot faster than you think they will, including pressure treated posts. Find yourself some 12 point sockets, those will fit over a square headed bolt. Good repair regardless. Cheers :)
We decided that corners don’t work with cattle. We have fenced our fields making a triangle at the corners. They crowd the corners and push the fence out when they crowd for shelter. The space is not wasted as the hedges get a bit more ground to help the environment.
Always lift the gate off the ground when installing, you won't have to drag it through the dirt when using said gate. But you would have to install a new gate post to hold it up.
I was wondering where your pup has been? I SO enjoyed the video when you were training her....but I haven't seen her in ages! Thanks so much for this great video!
Great fix Tyler. Don’t you just hate it when you “think” a job is done and you discover that you have just created more work for yourself. FTR to the rescue, all re-fixed. I noticed that you closed up the end of the feed bunk, so, no more fighting for that slot. No need for a gym membership when you are a farmer!

You got lucky. A friend found out that the hood of an early 70's Ford Cortina is just the right height to dive under the belly of a hereford and slide the cow into the windshield. The next day the cows owner was putting in 1/4 mile of NEW 4 strand barbed wire fence including all new posts.
My Livestock guardian dogs are a pain in my rear. They find areas in my fence that they Exploit. Invisible Fence is my next thing. The 6.5 joules fencer stops the pressure on the top. That bee hurts. Now to make them respect the middle of the fence. Love the bee sting.

Good fix on that fence. Don't ever discount a pile of salvage materials. Oh and by the way I find that when I have the money to do a project that I need to do on the farm, I do not have the time. When I have the time I never have the money!
