  • In this week’s section of Romans 11, Paul employs the often-used metaphor for Israel of a tree (sometimes olive, sometimes fig, sometimes grape vine). I think Jesus gave us the most impactful, real world, tree metaphor regarding Israel in Mark 11 and Matthew 21. He sees a fig tree fully leafed indicating it would have fruit, but then finds no fruit on it. He cursed it and it withered. Israel had the religious look of a nation that should be bearing fruit, but it wasn’t. Jesus also said…
John 15:15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. We hope you enjoy!
