    that's the one i got, love it so far. it's nice to see one of my fringe tech channels embracing iphone. people think just because you build a rig, code, play with linux and all sorts of things means they'r too good for it. i've never owned any mobile piece of hardware that's held up as beautifully as an iphone.

    While I can't say I support your decision to go Apple, I can give you a tip on what case to get. If you want to keep the classy design while not paying too much, I recommend the Poetic case. It's very cheap too, in case you find you don't like it

    It really sucks that Apple changes up their colors every year. It’s so obvious we all love a good black. Why does it have to be such a reserved and special edition color?

    Visuals were great as usual, but felt unfinished. I know it's only unboxing and setup(hype vid), but you could add more scripted thoughts about the phone. That would be intresting, because it's your first iPhone.
    By the way, why have you switched? Why now? It surely looks much better than 6, but for my taste earlier phones were even better. Was a 4" screen the dealbreaker?

    • @RhinoFeed
      @RhinoFeed  8 років тому

      You're right. It was very rushed. I switched because I felt like trying iOS for once. The One Plus One I had was lagging like crazy, and the pictures I got out of it disappointed me. I really liked the idea of the camera on the iPhone, and the hardware looks great, so I got sucked in.

    damn dude, i'm a huge fan of your videos, i love your intros like - dboom booom ba boom boom, ba boom boom a boom boom, ba booom - taktaktakakakakakka
    problem with iphones is that they get intentionally slowed down (planned obsolescence) within a couple years to get people to buy the newer models - also you are heavily restricted with customization, and jailberak eats up a lot of resources and slows the device down where as a simple systemless root from android pretty much gives you the power of the universe at your finger tips. my nexus 4 is just as fast as it was the day i got it. i currently use a nexus 6p, 5.7" quadhd amoled screen (bigger, better and faster than the iphone 7+ at about half the price) with a full aluminum body, 3gb ram - i can see myself using this phone for the rest of my life or until some new technology comes out that makes cellphones obsolete.

    "This is my first iPhone purchase!" Quite late, and terrible timing. Apple has the worst and most expensive RMA servicing. Apple stores are the only authorized technicians and the stores are almost ALWAYS packed, meaning a good 2 hour wait time before any kind of customer service. While they are also using an ugly IPS LCD panel.... STILL!
    If you wanted a big name branded phone, should have gotten the new Note 7.
    I always thought Rhinofeed was a place to get reliable and good recommendations, and seeing how he'd just go out on a whim and purchase the newest iPhone makes him a little less trusting. I always saw someone who liked amazing quality in mechanical keyboards, and audiophile grade equipment. And then he buys the newest iPhone.

    • @RhinoFeed
      @RhinoFeed  8 років тому

      I did consider the Note 7, but it's a bigger phone with tablet functionality that I don't need. So then I looked at the Edge, but I wasn't impressed by the fact that all the AMOLED displays seemed slightly dim with terrible burn-in. Honestly, the IPS LCD panel on the iPhone 7 looks great. With the wider color gamut and increased brightness, it's not a bad display. I don't notice the "crappy" resolution at all. It still seems sharp to me, and I came from a One Plus One that has a 1080p display. I think we're all getting wrapped up in tech spec wars. I've never needed to RMA or service a phone, and at least with Apple you can set an appointment and walk into a store. With Samsung or other Android phones, you're pretty much guaranteed to have to mail them out because of the lack of retail presence. The biggest reason I went with iPhone? The hardware and software are built together. The last two Android phones I've had kinda sucked after only a year and a half, and this time I want to keep the phone for longer than that. We have an iPhone 4s in the house that's still working perfectly fine, so I expect this iPhone will be the same way. Reliable, consistent software updates without the increase of lag over time that you (or, I've experienced) get on Android.

    • @jordansherst6002
      @jordansherst6002 8 років тому

      For reference I own a Nexus 6P
      I don't remember mentioning the resolution, my biggest benefit from having an AMOLED display is being able to use a pure black background and themes to have my screen take up a minuscule amount of battery compared to any other screen design, and I'm sure you would not have a problem with the dim screen if you actually tried it. As for burn-in that is typically from user error and if you know what it is and how to prevent it from the start, it will be negligble. Aside from that when I want to watch Netflix or one of your UA-cam videos by chance, it does look amazing with outstanding colour. I do have to agree with you the Note 7 is big, however I've been quite accustomed to the large and prefer them to type with. Overall the device is mean't for communication correct? Ease of typing is more relating to its purpose than portability. I do also get the other side of the argument, having to put my phone in my back pocket compared to my front pocket. I also agree with you that android has had bad build quality in the past but that is because their large use of plastic and non-unibody designs. The newer androids this year will be a LOT better with build quality, with true uni-body designs. As for the slowing down of Androids and owning them for longer than their supported. The slowing down is mainly because as you have an old spec phone the apps you use and primarily the bloatware slowly requires more RAM and CPU usage which your phone is already straining on to make it run "smooth" as these new updates slowly roll in, the phone slows down as well. As for Apple they have been sued on countless occasions for purposefully limiting battery life on iPods and iPads, and most recently purposefully slowing down previous models of iPhone. Now for my last point. If your Android phone stops getting supported, you have a whole slew of ROMs you can install lots of which are stock based and will continue to be for their existence, as for iPhone you have iOS which isn't that great or efficient to begin with, and your SOL after it's not supported or you don't like it anymore.
      Quite the page I wrote, but the iPhone doesn't hold a place as an enthusiast grade phone. Maybe it did back when the iPhone 3, 4 and maybe even the 5 and 5c were pretty nice. After that, Apple just ate it, sure the iPhone 7 is a lot better than the 6, but those changes are nowhere close to the kind of changes other phone companies are making.
      And if you look at the big picture, Apple is so scummy they can almost be shutdown for business malpractice and fraud claims, and negligent customer care. Where Samsung and Google have some of the best Customer Service known of those corporations, and constantly struggle to make their customers happy.

    • @RhinoFeed
      @RhinoFeed  8 років тому

      When you called the iPhone's display ugly in your first comment, I assumed that you meant ugly in terms of both color and resolution. Anyway, I do agree that AMOLED is fantastic for deep, rich blacks. It's also great to save on battery life, as you pointed out, by keeping most of the pixels powered off by using black. Those benefits of the AMOLED displays did draw me towards those phones in the first place, and I do see Apple switching to that display technology in the future. That was one of the top selling points of the display on the Samsung phones for me when I was looking at them. If I were to go back to Android, I would pick a phone from the $300-$400 range. Those phones seem to have the best value proposition. While they seem to lag more over time, the lower cost allows you to replace your phone more frequently.
      In the end, as I said before, I simply want the integration between software and hardware that iOS provides. The performance of the new iPhone 7, with the new A10 Fusion chip, is also very impressive. Not only that, but the resale value seems to hold better on Apple devices as well, so while the upfront cost is ridiculous (we can all agree on that), at least they won't plummet quite as quickly as some of the other Android phone options. In the end, you end up paying about the same I think. With the iPhone you can resell it for higher, and it typically lasts longer. With Android they are cheaper to begin with, so you can replace them more often.

    • @jordansherst6002
      @jordansherst6002 8 років тому

      I don't know, iOS has never been able to fit my needs with it's extreme lack of customizing and functionality, along with all of its bloatware. One thing I also wan't to get straight is a phone lasts depending on how you treat it (ie. kind of case, place your storing it, what you do for work, etc.) and in general Apple realizes their consumer base doesn't know how to treat technology causing them to make it waterproof and more durable.
      Now, when I purchase a phone I care more about charging speeds, (expandable) storage, *cough* 3.5mm headphone jack *couch*, and being able to use it how I like and efficiently, which I'm sorry if you disagree but iOS is nowhere close to Android in efficiency and workflow, and you could tell back when they released 3d touch they didn't know how to upgrade the phone anymore, while Android is still going.
      The biggest problem, is the lacking headphone jack. I plug and unplug my headphones a minimum of 4* a day and plug and unplug my phone to charge sometimes but not always 1* a day. At this rate the lightning port would wear out 5x faster than any other typical charging port I'd use.
      So sure if you want a phone to sell later get the new iPhone, but if you want something you will enjoy using and you will be able to use without having to RMA the charging port, you might want to choose something with a headphone jack.

    • @RhinoFeed
      @RhinoFeed  8 років тому

      I enjoy the features that Apple has brought to the table. 3D touch is becoming more useful as apps include it in their development, water resistance and durability is never a bad thing, and the slower charging speeds don't bother me (so far I've had 50% battery life left at the end of the day, believe it or not). You do bring a good point up about the lightning port possibly failing, and that is a concern of mine. In the end, I still believe this is a matter of taste. There are differences to both platforms that some may like or dislike.

    I think that this phone will be the ruin of Apple.
