I actually can't take nearly all opiates, found out I'm allergic when I dislocated my knee. So, I know roughly what this would've been like for her. The strongest over-the-counter won't do much alone for almost all surgeries, even if she got a prescription for something like Ibuprofen in a stronger dosage than they can sell OTC.

Reminds me of my brother he got in a motorcycle wreck and broke his legs. Even after the knee surgeries he refused to take pain medication. He was afraid of getting hooked on the stuff.
@@Scruffy72 That was actually my thought as well, and perhaps Pomu had the same worry and might just have felt dealing with some level of pain while just using OTC pain relievers was worth not taking the chance on a possible opiate addiction. Either way, respect to both your brother and Pomu.

I got prescribed some stronger meds after having my wisdom teeth removed years ago, but when I took them I felt extremely nauseous and couldn't hold down any food, so I could understand if that was a factor; let's not also forget that if one got prescribed opiates, there's a possible addiction risk there too, so all things considered, Pomu probably didn't want to deal with that baggage.

Man, I know what that's like, I'm allergic to opiates. I can only take hydrocodone, and it still has sort of adverse effects and I don't like how it feels, so I only took it for a couple of days... After having one of my knees reconstructed... It's rough; even if you get a prescription for a stronger version of OTC stuff, it still won't do much until well after..
She's as bright and positive as always when I know for a fact that regardless of what kind of surgery it was, she's also physically still feeling pretty awful.

I know what is like, getting prescribed pain meds but not taking them. After my surgery (broke my ankle some years ago), they gave me like toooooons of medication in case I was in pain. I guess I got lucky because I never felt anything other than discomfort. But I kept getting them prescribed, even after I told them I was fine

Tbh, I had the same mindset with Pomu. I had insane Costochondritis a couple of months ago and I was taking Etoricoxib just to combat the pain for every 8 hours. The painkiller was kinda effective, but my situation never really got better. When I went back to the clinic to get checked, I got prescribed a stronger painkiller (I forgot what it's called) and I just refused to take it, because I got scared that eventually, I'll need to take even stronger doses if need be. So I held chest pains painful enough for me to feel like I was smacked with a baseball bat straight on my chest whenever I sneezed or coughed for 4 months more or less
Just to give a picture, Etoricoxib is a painkiller sometimes used for moderate post-dental surgeries, gout, osteoarthritis, and the like. It mostly targets swellings that are sensitive to motion and/or contact
