Been waiting for this video since we saw the first rank 10. It's nice to see more analytical videos rather than commentary. These style of videos will help to bring up the quality of a lot of PVP players by learning advanced strats from the best.
Of all the advice that is not given here, the most crucial fundamental that makes this all work is learning how to count incoming fast moves and memorizing how many fast moves it takes to hit certain charge moves on various mons. That's how you gain an incredible competitive advantage in PvP because it allows you to utilize these advanced strategies to the fullest.
What a brilliant analysis. Thank you so much! Being a rather casual PVP player who only started it with the introduction of GBL I will probably never get to the point where I can apply those strategies in a large number of matches. But I sure owe you for better understanding WTF is happening on the other side and thereby preserving my phone's life. ;-)
These tips are an in-depth of the "know what your win conditions are" tip from the previous tip video. To understand what are the only way you could win battles that on paper seem to be clear losses is crucial. There still will be a lot of games that you are gonna lose anyway even if you play perfectly, but there are many other bad situation in which your opponent too has to play perfectly in order to win, the match against purplekyogre is a clear example.
@@marcusgabrielcomposer there is a running gag "shinies do more damage". It kinda isn't true but mostly shinies have worse pvp iv's on average so their attack might be higher so some of them actually do more damage. And now in cmp tie higher attack goes 1st which actually makes shinies dangerous. Its still just a joke but there is something thrutful behind it (especially now, the joke is older than the cmp-priority change.. i think that change made the joke funnier). Some jokes work because they are true. This might be one of them
Purple kyogre had the game in the bag! He should’ve undercharged the mudbomb on registeel to farm down and hit the toxicroak afterwards! You live and learn hope he does better next time 👌
PogoKieng I was just pointing out his win condition fam. You’ll need balls of steel to do it but there was definitely a way for him to win that game. Worse case scenario he’ll at least make it a cmp tie in the end.
I'd like to add a tip to the list: If you know you are going to lose the lead matchup, try to setup the gamestate in order to gain in some other aspect. While switch advantage can be result defining, energy/shield advantage can be as well. If you can chunk hard the opponent's mon and put it in a farmable state you can easily setup a sweep. This paired with tip #1 works even better, make sure that the mon you want to farm is at low health and has as little energy as possible.
I think this was mentioned in the indermediate tactics video prior to this. Iirc. I might be wrong tho (since i watch so many videos about the topic, it might have been on someone elses video recently).
I run play rough when it’s my lead, hydro if it’s in the back. Even in a bad matchup without HP, I still bluff it all the time. Lol. It gets shields a lot
If I want to share a team from GBL that I believe is strong & unique enough to be showcased, is the best way to use the Tournament Submission form, or something else?
Hi Kieng! First of all thank you for the great vids, really helpful! I've one question: whenever I switch in with a mon with a charge move ready and immediatly doing it, the opponent seems to be able to squeeze in one fast attack. This has made me lose some matches. Do you know what I am doing wrong? Thanks!
If you are switching from one of your pokemon being KO'd, the opponent will always be able to land a fast move or 2. The best way to avoid is to switch into your charged up pokemon before your current one faints.
One question about the fast switch in a very bad matchup. He clearly escaped from that Hypno and he chose Azumarill. The enemy has a vigoroth so Azumaril was a good choice (ofc Regi vs Vigoroth would have been much worse). What about the enemy would have a grass pokemon instead a fighting one? You just chose Azumarill every time over Regi as a safe switch or its "luck" based? (I mean... if the enemy has a counter for Azu instead Regi u are doomed, am i right?)
He has ice beam for grass coverage. Then he comes out of that match up losing azumarill but up a shield then regi can come clean up then carry forward that advantage
Calvin Ng I ran haunter altaria azumarill. Got an 11 streak, ended up changing it though cuz I started finding more weaknesses. I hate being weak to charmers so I haven’t used altaria in forever
Ivs matter too and the thing is everyone not going to have all the meta pokemon but yes these are great tips but without out half way decent ivs and the right movesets you will lose out the match up too
IVs are far from the most important thing. They matter but doesn't matter if you have the best IVs if you don't know how to put together right team comps, strategy, energy conversation, shielding strategies. Its like saying the steering wheel matters in racing - it does but there are so many other things before you care about your steering wheel stiffness
The logic should actually be the opposite. You want your switch ins to be the least hard countered so you can play a riskier lead. So your leads should be riskier since you have a good back up plan
yeah, but the point is that housestark played the only way that could have give him the victory: sometimes your perfect plays lead anyway to a loss if they are met with your opponent's best plays (or also perfect predictions, or randomness), the perfect switch by kyogre would have give housestark a loss but if housestark played it differently he would have most probably lost the game.
Same... i didn't know who he was at the time. A few hours later I watch purple Kyogres video and he was on it and I was like, hey I beat that guy. He was probably trying to lose.. maybe thats why I won
Okay, he would lose when the game picks an opponent with the perfect counters. Let’s take his Toxicroak. In my game, the led Pokémon for my opponent would be a psychic type like Medicham or Hypno. Fuck, I got to switch to a Fairly type like Wiggytuff or Azumarill. I switch and land a few moves before they switch to a steel type like Skarmory, Registeel, or my favorite Jirachi. They somehow build a charge move before me because why? Weak connection. BS! I die. They have a shield left and it’s two against three. This shit needs to be random. I won’t be the first person to say this, but Fuck shields. Shields have never existed before this game. Sometimes an attack would miss like in the TV show or in real life such as the Minneapolis Miracle.

Best video ever published. Hands down. Now that I watched this video, pls, remove it from the internet. From the planet. Every single bit.
Understanding these strategies is not difficult, but using these during battle is.
Its true, the only way you can use these is by knowing your opponents movesets and counting their attacks
Of all the advice that is not given here, the most crucial fundamental that makes this all work is learning how to count incoming fast moves and memorizing how many fast moves it takes to hit certain charge moves on various mons.
