    My cat Masha trusted me so much she let me 'pop' her blackheads. I tempted her with treats, when I first saw the 'kitty zits", and soon we got into a grooming/skin cleansing/treat routine. That, and keeping a better eye on stuff like this, and she got over her 'teenage bad skin', and lived to be...22!! Died in my lap, dozing off, peacefully. Thunderous purr, sweet Masha...what a girl...

    A FEW NOTES: The exudate is literally on hair, not inside pores, skin scratching is intolerable, it'll hurt the cat. Blackheads inside pores are treated with chlorhexidine only.
    Don't apply the way I applied it! The bottle contents weren't applied again as an antiseptic, apply an antiseptic using some dish, cup, cotton disc, whatever to avoid contamination of the bottle contents. Use new portions of antiseptic on clean cotton discs/whatever each time.
    Additionally, note that hydrogen peroxide % might differ from country to country (3% where I live) and it wasn't used on an open wound, so better use chlorhexidine it's the safest option:)

    Avoid plastic cat food dishes which seems to be part of the cause of cat acne. Try a beauty eyelash brush/comb combo.
    My kitty tolerates chin combing with very tiny eye lash comb much better.

    My Ginger kitty had chin acne too. The vet said to stop feeding him out of a plastic bowl so I switched him to a porcelain one and that really helped clear it up by at least 50%. Then I used liquid acne solution on a cotton ball and dabbed his chin (he wasn't happy) and that cleared him up completely!

    • @dixierae6063
      @dixierae6063 6 років тому +13

      szqsk8 I think you're suggesting purchasing a proper liquid is a much better overall idea all I could see when they were being combed out was chances are they would be breaking off and leaving a portion of them still in the skin just to continue to get larger and cause more problems. Where a liquid would absorb all the way into the poor and not cause as much your irritation as a combing. As well when my children were younger I rescued mature cats so we always had a house full I've now switch to dogs since the kids moved out LOL but I don't recall any of my cats that would have sat through a combing like that without tearing me apart. Dabbing a liquid on would be a much quicker procedure making for a less crabby cat.

      Julie Chauvin I rescued cats the majority of my adult life and then switched over to dogs once my husband passed away and both my children had moved out and sadly all of my kitties had passed on so I have probably had 25 cats and never had this situation occur so it must be a fairly rare situation. Although now that I'm texting you I recall it being said that generally it occurred in young cats and I often rescued cats that were over a year old so that may be a reason that I didn't see it. With that said I still have a feeling that it's a rather unusual a condition. I'm sure I would have seen it at least once.

      Its Me I’ve had many cats with white faces and chins and I’ve never seen this. Not in the purebreds or the rescues. My question is, how is she removing blackheads with a flea comb? I don’t think it’s blackheads at all. I think her cat has flea dirt on it’s chin and that’s why she can remove it with a comb. Blackheads on animals, just like on people, have to be extracted to get rid of them.

    • @dixierae6063
      @dixierae6063 6 років тому +2

      Sheila Karch I thought the same thing Sheila. I've seen people extract blackheads from dogs and they're deep just liking people. Combing them like that would only succeed in breaking them off. She may think they're out because the oxidized portion is gone but the white part would still be inside the skin.

    My orange male also had feline acne under his chin, but my other cat did not. I can see why someone would think this was flea dirt because at first glance I thought it was flea dirt on my cat. Vet gave him a simple antibiotic (some of them were painful whiteheads), and as many others, suggested to get rid of the plastic bowls. I also used a baby toothbrush and Clinique's mild soap under his chin 2-3 times per week. He actually liked the toothbrush scrubs. All of these things decreased his blackheads but he still had a few here and there.

    • @dixierae6063
      @dixierae6063 6 років тому +3

      Severen Koski I could see your cat enjoying a gentle toothbrush scrub. My cats always loved to be rubbed just under the chin. It seemed to be a sensitive spot that they particularly enjoyed. I didn't think the rough combing was a very good way to deal with it though. Because that's part under the chin is very sensitive. Well done sounds like very loving Kitty care.

      Interesting...my orange male cat is the first kitty who I have ever seen get blackheads on his chin too, although later I found some on my Siamese cat. Even though they don't get much fleas, I thought it was flea dirt at first too, but it actually looks pretty different. I had no idea kittehs could get blackheads!

    • @dixierae6063

      @@lipstickcloud I do find it very interesting me that the orange cats or more likely to get these blackheads. I had a orange boy he didn't have blackheads but he absolutely loved to have his chin scratched. I rescued cats so I had a lot and none of them loved it as much as he did. This is a bit off the wall but I wonder if c h i n sensitivity has anything to do with it.😻

    My cat had it bad one time. I didn't know what all these black things were so I took her to the vet. It started after I changed to a plastic dish, apparently that's what sparked it off. A couple weeks, returning to her old dish, and applying antibiotics to her chin, a little squishing and rubbing to help them out. Never before, never since. We are looking forward to our 17th year together in a couple months. 👍

      It's actually much more common than people realize. A full on asthma attack is obvious. But the lesser symptoms can be easy for owners to ignore or mistake for a sneeze, a cough, or even the cat trying to bring up a hairball. I don't know what causes it, but dust will worsen symptoms. Carpet obviously holds more dust than a hardwood or tile floor, and as cats spend much of their time so much closer to the floor than we do, it's important to vacuum regularly. We only have a small house, but we keep four air purifiers running 24 hours a day. Strong scents can also bring on an attack, so my wife and I don't wear aftershave or perfume either.

    My 10 year old boy just started getting acne within the past couple months. I've been brushing his chin with a flea comb every day and finally got him a ceramic water bowl and started washing his ceramic food dish much more frequently, which has helped more than I expected. For the past couple days I've soaked a cotton ball in warm diluted apple cider vinegar (10 parts water to 1 part vinegar) and used it as a compress (he hates this but knows it'll be over, he gets lots of praise during the process) and it's begun to significantly clear up 😸
    It never seemed to bother him but it could present health problems later and frankly the sight of his blackheads makes me feel grossed out and itchy lol it's soooo satisfying brushing it out.

    I use ceramic food bowls, and wash them regularly . I know most people don't think about washing their pet's food bowls. I spray them down with bleach and let them sit. no more acne Lol: my first experience with a huge black head: I didn't know what it was, and came on youtube, and found videos about Bot Flies: I told my vet I was convinced she had a bot fly living in her chin. Needless to say: it was just regular old black head

    Just putting it out there for anyone who doesn't know: While tea tree oil has antiseptic properties and some people use it to treat acne, never used it on your cat. It's deadly poison to them.

  • @debrapatterson6940
    @debrapatterson6940 4 роки тому +1

    My first cat had a lot of acne problems. My vet advised me to get rid of her plastic food and water bowls and this solved the problem almost entirely. Evidently even if you scrub plastic bowls often over time they get little scratches at the edges where the cat eats and bacteria builds in these areas and as the cat's chin rubs against the bowl it picks up bacteria which leads to infection.
    I do check my cat's chin frequently and wash away any dirt or food in the fur.
    If one of them does get a little blackhead I can easily remove before it gets infected by just scrapping my fingernail over the area.

    My cat is indoor, so no fleas. She also eats from a metal bowl. And she gets acne on her chin. I think it's because it's hormonal. She also probs neglects that area while bathing herself since it's an area under her chin and she can't really lick there. People trying to diagnose the issue without even being a vet, know shit about cats. Dogs can get acne too you know! And it's not how the owners raise them, it's just genetics. Just like humans. God.

    • @SilverScaleMA
      @SilverScaleMA 6 років тому +10

      It might be from the metal since some cats are more sensitive (that and not all "stainless steel" products for animals are true stainless steel and can still contain other trace metals that cats can be sensitive to, and metals like aluminum are not that good for cats). Cheap food can also cause rashes and acne in cats if they have high amounts of grain or other bulking ingredients and your cat is sensitive to them. All cats are different, some will never get acne even if they are fed cheap food and are fed in plastic bowls and some will still get it even if you feed them really good food in glass bowls that you sanitize before each use, it just depends on the cat...

    • @Miquelalalaa
      @Miquelalalaa 6 років тому +2

      Damian White-Graham It’s because your cat doesn’t get all the beneficial bacteria from being outside. The only reason not to let your cat out is if you live in an urban centre or on a very busy road.

    • @damianwhite-graham3667
      @damianwhite-graham3667 6 років тому +37

      Jara umm no. My cat is indoor because she's a handicap. She's vulnerable to other animals outside. She can't climb trees to save her from a chasing animal, she's like 3 pounds and can get swooped by a bird. And I live in a subdivision where stupid people let thier cats outside and they always scrap for territory. She only has one working paw, and that one is used to balance her when she walks or sits. Wild animals would think she's an easy target for food cause she limps. I also want to avoid her getting fleas or ticks. There is nothing beneficial outside for any cat.

    My 6 year old cat had this since 2014 and it comes and goes. I switched from plastic bowls to glass bowls and bought cat food aimed for fur/skin and sensitivity. These stuff didn't seemed to work but I kept using the glass bowls. I even took her to two different vets but they couldn't diagnose what she was having, even though it's clear as day she had acne. They gave her some vitamin shot and a flee shot then called it a day, the acne came back eventually. Now she doesn't have acne anymore for over a year since we moved house so I think in this case it was caused by stress or being unhappy, since I didn't lived in an ideal surrounding. She now has a happy place with a garden :)

    Poor cat. Glad that maybe you got all of this off of it. It's always sad to see an animal suffer. I had a kittle kitten come to the back deck of my home, and got attached to him as he adopted me, wouldn't leave me alone. Followed me everywhare i went. He csme on Sunday, October 27, 2017. Last month, the begining of June, he wanted to go outside, never saw him agsin, and I'm broken hearted over loosing him. He hardly grew very big since kitten stage, although, i fed him and gave him water and cared about him. Geeze, just writing about him depresses me as he and my little Sheltie Collie becsme the very best of friends. He liked to sleep in my bed all the time.

      If your cat is a male and hasn't been neutered that's likely the problem. As I understand it male cats that are "complete" have a territory of 10 miles so he could be a while getting back. He's young so could easily be outdone by an older more experienced cat. Good luck, hope you find him.

    Actually a lot of adult cat acne under the chin is caused by food and water bowls. If they aren’t washed regularly they transfer bacteria to the cats chin when it rubs over the edge of the bowls when they eat and drink. And using a cotton ball to wash under their chin is much gentler and the cats tolerate it more then putting the open container against the chin and tipping it. And before anyone claps back, I’m NOT judging her for doing that, whatever works for her is fine, I just wanted to give some more info in case it helps others.
