- Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro provided more details on Wednesday about the work that will be done to reopen Interstate 95 in Philadelphia.
During a news conference, Shapiro said the plan is to fill the gap with backfill and then pave over it to create a temporary roadway and get the highway open again.

If only the city could work this hard at stopping crime
Yes, we know you think there aren't enough black people in jail.
Great job Gov. Josh! He has me and this city convinced! AWESOME!
I hope that with all the angst about having to commute a different route and get the road reopened the truck driver who died a tragic and horrible death, and his grieving family are not forgotten. I hope our selfishness does not eat up our empathy.
If only there was this much passion in building up a robust public transit system.
Thanks everyone for the hard work. I do appreciate what the governor said. He is doing just the leader should do. Getting things done. Explaining situation using simple words that everyone can understand and giving people faith that we will get over it. Great! Positive energy received!
Why does he need praise? He’s doing what any governor would do. Just declare an emergency then hire contractors to do the job. Quit acting like he had a unique thought. He obviously has to or he won’t be re-elected.
Way to get'er done to all involved! Thank you
we've gotten so used to the blinding incompetence of the highway construction on 95 over the past two decades that now that they're actually getting things done, they can pat themselves on the back and it seems like a miracle to everyone involved...
Awesome plan and I thank all involved in this effort!
Its not really that awesome.. its a gap thats being filled in with gravel and aggregate.. I said they should do this 2 days ago.
4 days to demolish a bridge? Embarrassing
You should go show them how it's done. Hurry!
@@robertpalmer3166 lol. I've seen multiple interstate bridges demolished in 8 hours.
Just look up "bridge demolished in hours" on here. It's done all the time
@@robertpalmer3166 6 to 8 hydrologic breakers, 8 ot so front loaders, and dump trucks transporting material out as demolition crews are removing it. It's easy.
@@itwasaliens Yeah. Those hydrologic breakers are awesome. Now get over there and take charge.
There are several old sewer lines under the roadway that prevented dropping the beams on them.
Got to tell you, filling in the hole is a brilliant idea to get 95 running again!!!! Awesome job gents and gals.
Bring in military bridge, use it for one side while the other is being rebuild.
The skew made it impossible for a temporary truss. We looked at that Sunday.
Yes that's great and all but make sure these guys feel like they are needed and are important! Make sure these guys are compensated for being on the clock 24/7! And treat them with compassion and yes be strict when its called for not just to throw rank or seniority!
Lol do you know how much these guys make?? And the faster they get it done, the bigger the bonus they get. 🤡
This is government they have no problem spending others' money and patting themselves on the back. Most construction workers get paid well but our body is given in the effort.
Some of these comments are really ridiculous and show how little knowledge many people have on what a construction project like this involves. Those 16 girders have to be manufactured by a highly specialized steel mill, if we can even find one in this country, and then fabricated and transported to the site individually on special trucks. Also, that 24/7 schedule of work that the Governor so easily spoke of requires three 8 hour shifts daily of highly skilled workers in a variety of trades (welders, structural iron workers, masons, crane operators) that are in short supply in the current workforce.
PENNDOT really is the best in the business. Keep up the great work.
Can't wait to see 8/2 workers 6 supervisors and 2 workers lol
Back in my working days that's called "Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians."
that is such a tired old joke.. try again jack wagon.
Must say it's creative to use shredded recyclables and glass as fill instead of dirt. No doubt recyclers have mountains of the stuff. They can have it moved into position and ready for paving in about a week.
This proves that every city needs freeways!
Tl;DW it will be open somewhat quickly, but under construction for the next 20 years.
How do they cut off those steel beams What equipment do they utilize ?
Most likely prefabricated in a warehouse. Either using a big cutting machine or some places have use water or lasers. I doubt that work was done on site since space is limited.
plasma torch.
@Jay Gee I would like to see that in action those I beams are thick and strong !!
He just jinx the project by sayin "championship"🤣🤣🤣
Whats cool is that philly fix infrastructure at night no traffic
what caused the burn and what was on fire? concrete??
They're doing it for this "great" city and the money, think of all the overtime pay. Someone's making bank!
They are making bank off of FEMA. Good!!
Landing that contract was gold for them.
Someone is always making bank. It’s just who and when
It's a massive job, and it will take a lot of people to get it done, safely and as quickly as they can.
@@jwheelsw9381 never seems to be us, though.
Great job 👍👏
Meanwhile in California streets are still the same…
5 MILHON FROM OVERTHERE YES GOOD JOB LETS GO............
In this day and age we should be able to rebuild this in weeks .. NOT months ..too much bs in the way
No matter how far we come in technology, you still can't skirt past things like soil settlement and concrete cure times. All of which takes months, not weeks, to happen.
From a guy probably punching on a keyboard all day 🙄
Atlanta got it done in 6 weeks. Of course, Atlanta isn't run by corrupt unions.
The critical path here is the time to fabricate the bridge steel beams. There’s 16 beams. The mill will make them asap. But it still takes time.
Why not repair the bridge correctly and quickly instead of just creating 5 different projects?
yeah lets not use popsicle sticks and gum
It’s a two stage repair. While temp road is being used, half the bridge will be rebuilt as it was before the accident.
It is just 2 sections of overpass. It should be an easy task to accomplish. This response should be expected.
We'll see....
Nj tolls stonks
Who's going to start making all hands on deck t-shirts bumper stickers and magnets
Impressive 👍 thanks Governor.
He has done more in 6 months than Wolf did in 4 years. I'm happy I voted for him.
This was total common sense fix.. I said it 2 day ago.. when it first happened.. This is nothing to be highly impressed over filling a gap with gravel and aggregate.
@@northyland1157 Since you are no where near Philadelphia and the section of I-95 it goes through, you can keep your " expert" opinion to yourself, thanks.
@@yvonneplant9434 No, And I feel sorry your buying the BS story that this is supper impressive work. My 3 year old some similar stuff in the sandbox with his tractor toys..
All hands on deck ! Thank you Governor
Pennsylvania election computers were linked to China. This guy is not the leader Pennsylvania elected but the leader China elected.

We have the best Governor in the country!
Gov of pa due run for higher office as sen. Or rep. This gov t. Give need more leadership like you
I came up with the same repair idea when it first happened, and I posted it to youtube. Its common sense. These politicians aren't doing anything heroic.. they are doing their job.. Filling in a bridge with dirt gravel or aggregate is not rocket science. When the reporters were saying Months to fix. I was looking at that gap and saying it should take days to get traffic flowing again.
You can say that it is just politicians doing their job but I for one am (unfortunately?) pleased that government *is* “just doing its job” in this case compared to so many state governments not serving the people’s interests over the last few years.
Everything after 3:00 was showboating and not necessary
Agree. The fix was so common sense I said it when it first happened.. This is nothing impressive....
USA have the technology to finish in days
A steal plate might be a quick fix😅
The span is 100’ wide. Plate would be a huge trampoline.
Lol anything Philadelphia-based just means it’s going to take 10x longer 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
LMAO, their doing that FOR A CHECK!
Nobody works for free.
Championship aside & get the bridge done. We have a fair share of the number of Philadelphia sports teams championship failures for crying out loud. I can't even watch them play for championship, because they can't be trusted. Period.
I hope they do not skip safety issues again. Remember the past and what caused this collapse
A truck crash and 8500 gallons of fuel burning?
Nevermind the construction drama I want the proof that this wasn't some kind of untoward explosion staged... The surveillance video provided thus far is pathetic to say the least and raises more questions than it answers

If you had illegal immigrants it would have been finished already. We are so inept at eveeerryyttthhinngg
It wold be good to see them put the same work into getting Biden and the Dems out of power
First world country, third world infrastructure
If you placed this fire under any other concrete bridge in any other first world country, that bridge would crumble too
Yeah, just like the twin towers..if only they had used first world steel with first world physical properties..
Common sense has left the chat 🙄
gosh, its just a bridge hurry up and get it done if 165,000 vehicles pass through it every day. people who talk too much don't get things done
I don’t see nobody working all I see is they talking smoking nd hanging out there
He's a paid hype man lol 😆
Turn up the audio. I heard that " backup beeping".
I don't see an intelligent comment just some simp making pathetic comments trying to be edgy.
Kinda like you in school
What are you doing?
-nothing, just hanging around…
This can be done in 10 to 30 days with a new bridge and not a fill in the bridge like Alabama and Florida has done. Get rid of the unions and work will be done fast. You are wasting so much time trying to BS everybody by all the talking.
Putting a bridge up across a span like that in ten to thirty days just means it's going to collapse again in ten to thirty days.
@@s15240drifter69 you have no clue what you are talking about so just keep your trap shut
The fill section is just 75’ of the 150’ wide bridge. The fill section should be open by end of next week.
