  • The big review of the 4 major polymer magazines for the FAL rifle is in. Evaluted are the following 4 brands: D.S. Arms, Moses Machine Works, Thermold Magazines and ProMag Industries.
    Each mag underwent a drop test on concrete and gravel, basic reliability testing (locking into battery, BHO and 3 rounds) and evaluation of the reliability to feed.

    Great video! I stay away from ProMags, but was seriously considering trying a Thermold seeing how DS Arms rarely have the polymer mags in stock. Just ordered a couple from DSA as they have them in stock, they also have the Moses mags in stock right now, although after this review I'll probably avoid them too.

    Long time FAL owner starting back in the 80s and I can tell you to never wast your money on any polymer mags for the FAL, H&K G3 or the Galil. Why would you give up on using mags that have been winning wars for decades for some cheep plastic civilian mag. If you can scrape six mags together just take you time and start hunting for "real" military mags. I have a bunch and have never paid over $7.00 for any of them. I hunt pawn shops, gun shops and gun shows and have good luck finding one or two at a time. The bulk of the public have no idea what an FAL even is, leave alone hunt of mags. Even if you go to a large gun show you're most likely the only person in the building with an FAL.

    • @thefalguy9848

      True that, gun shows are a great way to get some steel FAL mags - even myself have had some luck at shows. Regarding polymer mags: Galil polymer mags made in South Africa are a great option and they work flawlessly

    I have a DSA/FAL medium contour standard length barrel. Have had this rifle for nearly seven years. Initially there were some problems, but everything seems to be fine now. I run six DSA steel 20's, two DSA steel 10's, and four Austrian surplus 20's.. All these work fine. The ten round Thermold feeds, but does not lock the bolt back when empty.

    Great idea for a video that would help me and maybe a few other people out with our builds, but could you give a run down on options for muzzle devices? I'm looking at thread adapters and suppressor ready comps, and I'm coming up short on options and finding torque specs.

    Great video bru, I'm just disappointed overall in the poly mags on the market for FALs, they're just not made from a good enough polymer composite/ blend. Wish Magpul would just step it up and make them (I mean, they already make a replacement Stock system for FALs, why not just make a metric and inch pattern?)
    I NEED to find more Metal Metric Mags, such a dry hole out there.

    • @thefalguy9848
      @thefalguy9848  Рік тому +3

      The issue with all polymer mags is the thin walls leading up to the feedlips. I doubt Magpul would get it right. And besides, the market is too small for Magpul to make mags...

    I’m surprised the thermold broke. Of my 20+ surplus mags I ended up with a single thermold cause it came with my RFB. My pile of fal mags is the primary reason I got an RFB. But that one thermold has served me well for years. Have even dropped it fully loaded on the ground a few times. I wonder if mines just a fluke. Or maybe keltec contracts them to a higher standard. It’s branded keltec, so it definitely comes from a different mold than thermold branded ones. I wonder if all the keltec branded ones are better.

      I can second this comment here. The only magazine I currently have that works with my FAL is the mag that came with the gun. I ordered more of the polymer mags from DSA. However, they have a hard time fitting in the rifle and they hardly feed at all. I contacted DSA customer support, but the only remedy I got back was I needed to file down the notch in the back of the magazine to get it to work properly. I tried this remedy, which has allowed the mags to better fit the rifle, however the ftf problem still looms, though not as bad. The feed lips look exactly like the feed lips on the mag that came with the rifle. I feel the mags they make should come out of the factory already fit for their factory rifles. I may also mention that the FAL I purchased is also new, and was made with all DSA parts. The mag that came with the gun also as I mentioned, has no problems whatsoever. The mag that came with the gun was made in 2021 and the mags I purchased after were made in 2022. Upon further investigation I noticed the mag that came with the rifle has marks on the back where someone in the factory filed the notch I mentioned before to fit. I feel that a customer should not have to file down the magazine in order to get it to fit a rifle, that's not what I would call good quality.
