🙋🏻♀️ WHO AM I:
I'm Joann, a licensed architect turned marketer in tech. I talk about architecture, career, and personal branding.
Which alternative career options would you consider?
As an architect I had a career switch 2/y ago and I am now a PMO for a consultancy company. It's been quite difficult this switch since I didn't have any specific experience in terms of project management, but still I gained more soft skills as an architect. Therefore, the only real choice is on yourself but first you have to believe in it and put all your effort to achieve your goal.
@@Crazygabry89 the only real choice is yourself! Love that. Take control of your career or it will take control of you.
I want to change to a career that has nothing to do with architecture
Same😭
Sameee
Uhh may i ask why
I needed this video, I love the "Your enough" at the end. Having the agony right now of not having a job. Thank you Ms. Joann Lui.
Please do more videos like this!!
I'm an acoustical consulting engineer :) that's fun too.
That sounds fun too. What makes you pick acoustic?
These are all great Joann!
Thank you for the support!
Thank. Quite an ene opener
This was incredibly informative. Thank you !
I’m glad you find it informative. Thanks for watching!
although income would differ greatly based on experience, i think discussing the expected entry level income on differing careers would also help to inform these career jumps. just something i thought of throughout watching this vid as an architectural designer who's been considering a career shift for awhile now! but very informative video nevertheless, thank you :)
That’s a great idea! Thank you for the suggestion. I’m planning a video on my own salary journey but a video on the salary of different alternative careers would be useful too. What career options are you considering?
Interesting Video, if I could provide my personal experience I strongly suggest to get deeper into Retail Designer/Project Management. To shape the experience of retail customers when purchasing is quite rewarding!
Retail Designer sounds really fun, especially nowadays retail experience is much more than just shopping. That's definitely a great option for architects!
I was wondering if architectural drafting would have been listed.
Do you mind me asking what was the time frame from leaving your job as an architect to the point you felt established in your new career path? Also how did you manage to handle the switch financially? Thanks
It took me more than a year to feel confident about my new career path since I have never really done it professionally before. I only made the switch by getting a new job lined up, so financially it was not a huge issue. Although going to a startup is definitely a risk in itself!
Knowing this, would you still study architecture?
really hepled
Waittt why is it called going to the “dark side?” I was thinking about construction management, but want more context about the “dark side”.
can i still do all these without being qualified and only completing undergrad bachelors
How can i work in an aec tech company? Please share some information. I am an architect, want to know more about aec company
wow~
