    Which alternative career options would you consider?

      As an architect I had a career switch 2/y ago and I am now a PMO for a consultancy company. It's been quite difficult this switch since I didn't have any specific experience in terms of project management, but still I gained more soft skills as an architect. Therefore, the only real choice is on yourself but first you have to believe in it and put all your effort to achieve your goal.

      @@Crazygabry89 the only real choice is yourself! Love that. Take control of your career or it will take control of you.

    although income would differ greatly based on experience, i think discussing the expected entry level income on differing careers would also help to inform these career jumps. just something i thought of throughout watching this vid as an architectural designer who's been considering a career shift for awhile now! but very informative video nevertheless, thank you :)

      That’s a great idea! Thank you for the suggestion. I’m planning a video on my own salary journey but a video on the salary of different alternative careers would be useful too. What career options are you considering?

    I just graduated from architecture, and ive always thought about video games design, or software engineering, but I don’t know where to start? Like should I take a master degree in software engineering? Or that would not help me?

    Interesting Video, if I could provide my personal experience I strongly suggest to get deeper into Retail Designer/Project Management. To shape the experience of retail customers when purchasing is quite rewarding!

      Retail Designer sounds really fun, especially nowadays retail experience is much more than just shopping. That's definitely a great option for architects!

    Waittt why is it called going to the “dark side?” I was thinking about construction management, but want more context about the “dark side”.

    Do you mind me asking what was the time frame from leaving your job as an architect to the point you felt established in your new career path? Also how did you manage to handle the switch financially? Thanks

    • @JoannLui
      @JoannLui  Рік тому +2

      It took me more than a year to feel confident about my new career path since I have never really done it professionally before. I only made the switch by getting a new job lined up, so financially it was not a huge issue. Although going to a startup is definitely a risk in itself!

    Hello, I'm trying to find work here in Miami Fl. I have Bachelors Degree from FIU. I'm tired of being exploited by these Architects for one to two years, and I cannot find a stable position. I need some representation, to become an Architect, so I can afford to become an architect? Most these Architects cannot tie there own shoe laces, and hire others to do their own work. I have ten years of construction experience as a carpenter, and ten years of experience as an Architect on Autocad with CD's, and learned Revit as well at college? I want to be apart of an Architectural Union, so I will have a stable carrier?
