  • This motor is indestructible and can run about 55 years on 2 pcs. AAAA batteries = 1200 mAh.
    The power consumption is 2.5 micro amps.
    Run time = 1200 mAh = 1200000 micro amps = 1200000 / 2.5 = 480000 hours / 24 / 365 = 55 years

    Great little pulse motor! I think the transistor will require a minimum base current in order to function. When the battery is depleted below that minimum base current, the transistor can no longer allow current flow from the collector to the emitter. So it is (1200 mA - (transistor minimum required mA to operate)), that current value is the actual battery life to use for the mA per hour

    I'm still working on this project. I have had two issues on my long running motors. The first is the bearing issue. The second issue is the reality of actual battery life. Friction at the bearing surface is relentless and over months or years takes it's toll and they wear out. The battery must be high quality also to actually last the many years of advertised life. To last 55 years many things on the motor would have to be perfect. My best motor so far is a Lasersaber E-Z Spin using sapphire jewel bearings. I am using a simple two transistor circuit (modified Dadhav). The power is ambient light energy gathered by a small 5v solar panel and stored in a 10 Farad 2.7v super capacitor. Thanks for all the work you have done on this project.

      Hej, My solar motor have run each day when the sun shin with 850 rpm max, in 6 years without great problems. The pulse motor run 125 rpm at1,5 volt and 75 rpm at 0,9 volt. See. ua-cam.com/video/_KoUYJxLJaE/v-deo.html Waiting to see your new motor. Kindly regards. Lars

      I'm not a builder, I'm a researcher and have been at it for over 4 years. I've learned a lot and have a lot to try if your or Larskro is interesting in building. Here's something for you two to tinker with. Remember those ferrite 1/4 inch magnets from Radio Shack? Take one and heat one side of it for a while. It will KILL one side of the magnet. Think about it and see what you can do with it. Just think no North or South pole to contend with.
      In theory the heat hardens the face of the magnet killing that one side. The question that needs to be answered is does it work like closing a how where the heated face closes the pores of the magnet??????
      Drop me a line here and I'll give you many other things to tinker with..

    Larskro, I like your minimal approach. I doubt that the battery will last 55 years, not even 5 years . The problem is wear and voltage drain. The circuit becomes in time unstable. The puls current in the coil is: Ohm's Law I=U/R is 3V devided by 16KOhm is 187,5 uA. When I take my Battery Life Calculator and estimate a run/idle (puls/pause ratio) of 1 to 3 (with 6 magnets!) I come to a life span of 6400 hours or 266 days and 16 hours. What power source can guarantee a life span of 55 years or more?

      @Larskro  6 років тому +3

      Have you seen this video. ua-cam.com/video/y3xaTwCMmRo/v-deo.html
      Remember this is a pulse motor. The power to the coil is only on a peak of a mili second.
      The motor current at 0,9 volt is 1,5 uA and at 1,5 volt it is 3,5 uA. Measured with an analog multimeter, because of all the pulses.
      The power consumption is 2.5 micro amps in average .
      Run time = 1200 mAh = 1200000 micro amps = 1200000 / 2.5 = 480000 hours / 24 / 365 = 55 years.
      Alkaline batteries can work more than 20 years ???

    • @Magneticitist
      @Magneticitist 6 років тому +1

      It isn't so much whether the battery can sustain an output close to an ideal approximation, it's that the physical properties of the battery are likely to drain itself well before the calculated run time. Alkalines today are advertised I believe like what 10 years shelf life for the good ones? Maybe a little longer? Nimh cells likely a good deal longer though they too will suffer the same issues. A lithium ion cell is likely going to best those in longevity, but I'm not sure any li-ion cells are even expected to last beyond 20 or so years. It's almost like we have to power something like this with a substantially large cell known to last many decades, which sort of dilutes the appearance of the project because then it doesn't look so special being a tiny motor driven by a huge battery.
      This is pretty much the only way to do it, knowing the motor will spin on so little it's as if the battery is just sitting on a shelf somewhere draining via its own internal leakage.

    Since this thing has a very low power consumption, don't use batteries. Use solar panel instead. It'll last as long as there's light!

    And great work but..
    The point bearings will wear out and the drag will be increased I have a mendocino motor with point bearing made from a ball from ball bearing on the glass surface . After a month of use the ball from the ball bearing have wear signs and also the glass I can see the wear point and of course increase drag.
    i want to built something to last longer much longer ( years) but I don t know what kind of bearing to use ( except sophire glass that I cant find and expensive )
    I think to use miniature bearings but think have to much drag.
    Or a ball from a ball bearing on glass but submerged in a little oil. ( I believe the oil will enter between glass and steel ball forming a microscopic layer of oil and no wear but i don t know for sure)
    Any ideas I will apreciate.

    Dear Larsko, Neodymium magnets, were invented in the 1980s. Furthermore the protecting plating on these magnets tends to deteriorate after some years. If this device was made 55 years ago then you or someone must have made in 1962. There were NO Neodymium magnets at that time as these were only invented in the 1980s, At that time transistors were around but were more expensive than today and it was era of valves which were extensively used in radios and TVs. It is possible you meant time as 5.5 years instead of 55 years. Please if so correct the possible mistake.
