I am a 72 y.o. woman and no way was I going to delude myself to believe that some handsome doctor is going to fall madly in love with me. I am not that naïve.
I think this scam works best on the soap opera/Harlequin Romance novels generations. Scammers typically use photos of attractive men and women. If you don't match that person's hotness, stop and ask yourself, "Out of all the people in the world, what does a successful and attractive (insert job here) want with me?!" The answer is: YOUR MONEY!
God bless this woman for bravely sharing her story. She will recover ALL. I will share this with my Mom who I am assisting with recovering her finances from an Elder abuse scam. I’ve been trying to get my Mom to understand the world is not the same as she’s always known it to be. Everything and everyone has to be reviewed my my brother and I for her safety, however I pray all have loved ones who they can trust and who are looking out for their best interests.
So the fact that she not only gave her total life savings away for a "handsome' younger man, but she them sent ALL of her husband's savings away.....oh AND cashed in her life insurance (which mind you, WAS to go to their kids!), for what....? And we're supposed to feel sorry for her!? Idgaf who or how old she is. That's a scumbag and selfish move! Zero sympathy!
Please seniors!!! Ask someone you trust and then take their advice, before you do something your going to regret! Do not send money! If you haven't seen them in person, they're fake!
What’s scares me we have a family member who’s gone through the loss of her spouse 2 years ago. Shes had a difficult time being alone. We’d talked about having her move closer to us. 5 months ago she met a man that has apparently lived in the same community as she and her husband for year. She walks regularly and never seen him before. He suddenly appeared walking on her street with his dog. Fast forward within the first 2 months he was telling her he LOVED her. He’s never been married. There is only a 1 year age difference. Within 3 months he was ready to marry her. She’s fallen for him, happy, not ready to marry but won’t listen to us and our concerns. We don’t know how to approach her at this point without her becoming defensive. She’s very vulnerable senior who could be taken advantage of. She tend to share too much as we found early on after her husband died. We’ve had to educate her on simple things on when repair people come to the house not to share you live alone. This boyfriend thing has us really worried.
Women and men fall for this same tired scam everyday. Never met the person and the person provides a photo of someone attractive, 20 years younger. Ask yourself, " Could you get this person in real life? ". The answer is no you can't. Don't fall for the okie doke!
