His whole point was that since you can’t retroactively test something then you can only have X amount of certainty in that resulting information it is therefore it’s less reliable. It directly refutes the idea that they were saying which are that hunters solely being men was better than anything else. Some other combination could’ve been more optimal but since we can’t test that we can only say that all men being the hunters was efficient ENOUGH (hence the eye evolution comparison) for civilization to persist.

"Refuting" would be demonstrating it's incorrect but realistically if you cant properly test it you cant properly refute it either. All you can do is put forward a different hypothesis.
The theory makes sense because you cannot both hunt and gather effectively at the same time yet we know early man had a diverse diet in that era of human history. Which is why they're referred to as hunter/gatherers. The concept/theory is that men would commit to hunting for high risk high reward (a successful hunt would provide a lot of high value nutrients but wasnt a guarantee) _but_ they couldnt care for children and hunt at the same time. Whereas women could find things like mushrooms, berries, fruits, tubers, etc while also caring for children and not be at risk of traumatic injury/death.
Current studies also suggest when women are highly active it's actually harder to conceive (up to 40% more difficult) and the inherent risks of injury on a hunt would endanger early pregnancies. If women consistently participated in strenuous hunts they would have been less fertile and we likely wouldnt have survived as a species if both men and women hunted together.
And that's not even acknowledging the plethora of advantages men (in general) have over women such as increased bone density, lung capacity, strength, endurance, muscle structures, hand eye coordination, spatial processing, etc. It's _possible_ that if some women showed particular skills and interest in hunting they might become hunters but it's unlikely that was the norm. However it's also possible that we were entrenched in specialized gender roles at that time and women being gatherers and men being hunters was enforced at a group level.

While I hate these gender debates, this is the first time I heard valid explanation from someone. It seems a lot of people are missing the point - Filthy is suggesting the evolution does not produce the optimal outcome, which is provably wrong (he mentions inferiority of human eye, but vagus nerve is even better example, where you have something just there cos evolution didnt have any incentive to fix it).
Just cos our evolution lead to these ovbious gender differences doesn't mean its the best options for future. Evolution pushes for change. Even tho the current gender-meta was optimal for survival, it clearly is not anymore.
Taylor "pattern recognition" debate takes into account initial conditions and progression that always leads to certain patterns. Which is why a lot of separate cultures and tribes and a lot of evolution lead to same current outcome and gender differences. But we live in a different time, in a very different initial condition, and if you draw a line at that - it is very valid to assume that evolution has not prepared us for this upscale in progress.
One example for filthy could be some different specie - Hyenas for instance, where females are stronger and more aggressive than males (and also have bigger dicks... yes google it). That evolution strand lead to really different outcome.

This is frustrating to watch as someone with a science background. I agree with what PKA are saying, and they are most likely correct (in my opinion they are correct,) but Filthy is coming at it from an academic/science viewpoint that just because something was one way does not mean you can assume it was due to X reason even if it seems obvious without testing your hypothesis.
Obviously in this hunter gatherer situation, to me it is quite obvious that men hunt because they’re bigger, faster, stronger, they stand a better chance at actually chasing something down. Simultaneously if the men have pregnant women back in the village it doesn’t make sense for her to chase down a boar. Even once given birth she still has to breast feed, hence makes sense for her to say behind. Even once done breast feeding now you’re probably the better caretaker of the children because you’ve been doing most of the work. Hence the pattern continues.
Regardless I think he’s trying to be to technical for a podcast like PKA, he’s trying to hard for something that’s not supposed to be super deep.

Meaning most People didn’t want these jobs.. But for Irish people and polish people it was the only job they could get.. because they were immigrants.. and they passed that tradition down to there grandchildren..
As for black people being firemen... Maybe they just don’t want the job.. it’s quite possible some people by culture or ethnicity are not driven to specific jobs just cause..

Nah literally every person here was agreeing but pka was really hung up on the literal idea of males as hunters and completely missed the point this guy was trying to make. Everyone(except maybe Kyle) is right about what they're saying and Filthy's original point is actually pretty important. The problem is the hunter analogy, where the biological difference being cause for societal difference is really obvious, and so its a terrible one to compare to something like chess where the nuance of where skill comes from is way less understood. you could still argue and I would probably agree that there are inherent biological advantages for men, but unlike with running or lifting, you can't so easily say oh it looks to be the case so it must be true. You need evidence that proves cause and effect. Correlation does not equal causation is what filthy is doing a bad job of saying. Then Kyle is just blatantly claiming biology is 100% responsible for all societal differences which is fucking ridiculous and he's just accepting that everything he says is undeniably true. And Taylor is the only one to actually touch on the both filthy's actual argument and also the main probable reason that males were the predominant hunters/people in danger etc. Women control the size of your population. one man can impregnate 30 women at once but 30 men cant all have babies with the same woman at the same time. The whole argument was completely pointless and while I 100% like the pka guys more, they just all jumped down his throat when he tried to pitch a hypothetical before he could even get to the point he was trying to make, causing him to derail and lose the plot. His big mistake was using the hunter/gather analogy and then getting really flustered when having to play defense.

@n30n the point is that all things being equal, the trice with more food will be more successful. People like Filthy (and apparently you) seem to think that they know so much more and consider so much more than the person that they're talking to that they look past the extremely obvious unspoken points to expand the boundaries of the hypothetical to include all things that are not logically impossible. He unnecessarily multiplies the complexity of what they're talking about. People who are too intellectual tend to be extraordinarily impractical which is why Filthy comes across as a moron even though he's obviously intelligent.
