"Once upon a time in America" it's not just a simple movie, it is something higher, it's a truly life experience that can't be explained by words...in my humble opinion The absolute best movie of all time. The best movie ever. There aren't other films which can describe what Once Upon a Time in America is. The feelings of regret, lost occasions and memories can't be represented better, also because the acting of Robert DeNiro is the definition of acting. He's the best actor ever. This motion picture is also better than another Sergio Leone masterpiece "The Good, the Bad & the Ugly", even though they're totally different things.

Full of hate, they cant accept the fact this guy is better than all the actors there have ever been and better than their fav ones. Pacino fanboys are out there who think Pacino is better than Robert, they must be kidding right? Guess what, DDL worshippers now think that DDL is the best actor ever nd he is better than Bobby. My god, give me a break ffs. What knuckleheads these ppl are. The Sound Track will haunt me til the day I close my eyes and never hear it again. I love to the point that I have driven my family crazy cuz I can’t stop whistling it. The stair scene where the little boy has to choose between the attention of the girl or his love of the taste of the sweet treat is diabolical and so wonderfully torturous.

I haven't got enough words to convey how superb this film is. Every actor. Every scene. Every note of a magnificent score. The nuances of each relationship. The tragedy of an unrequited love. The deep sense of time and place and just the whole thing from start to finish... An utter privilege to watch (for the third time) and a film for all time. Does masterpiece do this heartbreakingly gorgeous film justice...? It's the best I can do. It wont be beaten in my lifetime. Quite sure about that. ❤️

Anyway, I'm waiting for a release of the recent 2011 version ever since. Where can I get it?

Once Upon a Time in America is one of my favorite movies. It is a true story about life and trusting people. I think Robert DeNiro wasted his whole life mourning the loss of his best friend because he was loyal and thought he was responsible for his death. He was a true friend then in the end he was very blindsighted for 40 years to find out his best friend was not dead and took the love of his life. and all his money. James Woods had been living a very wealthy lifestyle for years and Robert DeNiro lived a poor lifestyle. Love Robert DeNiro, James Woods and lady who played both men's love interest. I love the theme yesterday it is so appropriate.

But the ending also has this moral conclusion that everything you do, will one day or another come back at you. Max has it all, but in the end he lost it all: his soul, dignity and selfrespect. Noodles instead walks away and lives on as a man, with no material wealth but his dignity and integrity intact.

A movie that has grown on me since I first watched it, there is always something new to it everytime I see it, never fail to enjoy watching it. Like Shawshank, never got the credit it deserved when first released, but has turned into one of the great movies of all time. This is up alongside the Casablanca's and Brief Encounters, a movie I actually rate as better then The Godfather.

This film is masterfully done and you will never see a film like it again. Not just the plot, but the acting, direction, sets, themes, emotion and just sheer brilliance of the film. Movies today just don't compare, and that is what I meant by you won't see a film like this again. Obviously there are some good movies in the modern era of cinema, but I genuinely think nowadays is the worst it has ever been for cinema, I have yet to see a film really blow me away like this and other classics did.

I hope that within my lifetime I am able to see the film the way that Sergio Leone intended. Even the "extended" version is extremely cut down. They had over 18 hours of film and the story was meant to be told through two films that were 6 hours long. Imagine how much of this masterpiece we are missing. You can find some of the scenes online but most of it never made it to the internet. I truly hope before I die I am able to see it.

I think you have to live a life of neglect, lost love, loyalty and love..most of all humility.
this film I've seen several times the American version, it's time I read the book if it's out there,
Robert DeNero broke my heart with his acting, I loved it backed with Debra's theme it hit my heart and soul with memories only I could feel.

FINALLY, DE NIRO SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT MR. LEONE!!
Why he never talk much about Leone on interviews?? That's the official first interview that i saw him talkin' about Sergio.
Anyway, Once Upon a Time In America gotta be my favorite film of all time. It's too perfect! I mean, Robert De Niro, James Woods, Joe Pesci, William Forsythe, Danny Aiello, Jennifer Connelly, James Russo, Tuesday Weld, Burt Young, Treat Williams...what else you can ask for??

That is a very powerful, clear and succinct interpretation: "For every dreamer, there's a doer." This is a theme which appears throughout the movie. And under this idea, you can indeed say that Noodles' tragedy is his opium dreams. In other words, it is his addiction to unreality that keeps him from achieving Max's (albeit illegal) success. But I think the movie also frowns upon this kind of illicit action, because Max's crisis at the end is very real indeed.
