Ludwig van Beethoven - Concerto in C Major for Violin, Cello, Piano and Orchestra, Op. 56
0:54 I. Allegro
19:01 II. Largo
24:13 III. Rondo alla polacca
Beethoven's Triple Concerto, unlike his concerto for violin or his five concerts for piano, was poorly received by critics at the time. This is probably what led to the piece being only seldom heard in concert-halls today. The musicologist Harry Goldschmidt recognised in the Triple Concerto, which was written between 1803 abd 1804, 'a piano trio in the form of a concerto'. Beethoven, however, did not confer the lead role on the pian, which most composer of the time did, but on the violoncello, which is first to play the theme. The partnership role of the cello with the violin is also noticeable throughout the entire development. From the very beginning of the first movement, the hierarchy as determined by Beethoven is recognisable. After the orchestra performs the sweeping lead theme, it is taken up by the cello, the by the violin, and finally by the piano. In the melancholic secondary subject, this order is maintained by the composer. The movement ends finally with a glorious coda.
In the second movement, the cello also first presents the wonderfully delicate theme, which, after a brief prelude by the orchestra, and is ultimately with melodic, harmonic, and rhythmical adaptation performed by the solo instruments. For the most part, as already in the first movement, the orchestra keeps itself during the solo passages discreetly in the background. Without a pause the sweeping Rondo alla Polacca follows, and the cello begins the theme again. This rondo displays a particularly characteristic form. It keeps returning, each time a little altered. A rousing forwards pull wraps up the "Triple Concerto".

It is a real treat to see Itzhak Perlman as a conductor, and his daughter at the piano. Shame on those people of Beethoven's time for not recognizing this concerto as the masterpiece it is. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it.
It's hard to understand how was not recognised.
Beethoven was considered way beyond his time. Perhaps that's the reason.
@@gibbogle partly it was the fact that the piano part wasn’t as interesting and fun to play as is usual for Beethoven, be it in his chamber works or his solo piano works. Also, unlike the vast majority of concertos at the time, there are no cadenzas in this one, for any of the instruments.
All this Devine music ! how dare they accessed Beethoven of being hostile ! If it’s true .
Empecé a escuchar este hermoso concierto, y no pude dejarlo. Quería ver una película. Pero esto...es un regalo.
Absolutely gorgeous performance. Loved the version of a younger Yitzhak on the violin with Yo Yo Ma at the cello and Daniel Barenboim at the piano and conducting, but this one is just as sweet and sublime.
Great to see young blood at the three "solo" instruments.
Just beautiful music, totally worthy of the greatest of all, Ludwig van B. ❣️
Yes, it is great to see the youngsters. Beethoven transcends age.
Bravo! Very beautiful Concert ! Bravo Navah Perlman 🌺Bravo Maestro Ithzak Perlman conductor! 👏👏👏
Thank you very much ❤️
LvB Concerto for Violin, Cello & Piano is 'basque in the heavenly glory.' The trilogy instruments give the melody such enrichment of resonance, phrasing, and lyrical with vibrant rhythm, intensity and gracefulness.
The Orchestra gives background support of paragon delight to the soloists in the melody.
Itzhak Perlman expresses body language with his hands.
I have enjoyed the cellist Zuill Bailey the most because he vibrates those strings into melancholic resonance as this particular Beethoven Trio Concerto melody is about, the theme throughout concluding with a bravado of triumph. Delightful and absolute mastery!
Outstanding review, it is so perfect as the triple concerto.
Maravilloso concierto, maravillosos interpretes, maravillosa orquesta, maravilloso director y maravilloso Beethoven
Very beautiful, sensitive, and melodic, performance full of patience. I’m especially impressed by the emotional and gorgeous interpretation by the cellist.
The pianist is his daughter! I am so glad to see that the Rheumatoid arthritis doesn’t stop her from playing.
Rheumatoid arthritis is horrible. Itzhak Perlman is amazing.
Nerver knew she had that condition. The Perlman family is amazing!!

This has to be one of the most difficult pieces to play!
the pianist is fantastic for this music. she reminds me of Richter...
What was that encore that they played?
Moment Musical No. 3 by Schubert

Is the lady playing the piano Perlman’s daughter?
Erik Nystrom Aye she surly is. :)
What is the shirt that he is wearing? Looks very similar to a traditional Chinese shirt….

Looks like the violin soloist using Dominant strings G-D-A
People these days are to enthralled by rap and other crap. People really have no brain these days, sadly. I love classical music and I'm a composer, pianist, flutist, and artist and I'm 13. I just wish people would knock some sense into their noggin :/
Rap and crap. Im glad someone said it. I hate it
PureTalent good rap has its place in the performing arts, just like any other form. It’s not intended to be compared with classical music. More with the protest music of the 60s or with spoken verse.
You have arrived so early in your life... Not to worry most rap fans will be sitting in their wheel chairs trying to remeber all the arbitrary crap music ...you on the otherhand will be floating in this heavenly space we all love so dearly.
I'm glad my friends and me all love Classical Music! What a world to explore! It's really hard to knock sense into the Rap people...
Rap is a spoken-word artform, mostly with social commentary. It's a different genre. You keep going with your performing and composing!
I did not like this concert, but this peformance changed my concept
5:37 whatttt
??
Why great soloists in old age want to be conductor?
Because this way they can still make music, without having to play themselves.
Nureyev also conducted towards the end of his life too.
P
whole russia is there...
"Itzhak Perlman" in the title is clickbait. You know people are looking for him playing, not conducting. Therefore I give a thumb down. Absolutely nothing wrong with the video though.
Wow! Perman kann noch besser dirigieren.
I don't want to downvote this. But almost everyone playing looks and sounds pained and stodgy except for the cellist. What's going on?
It must be a bit stressful for a violonist to play with Mr. Perlman conducting, same for Miss Perlman probably...
It's in your mind. Look within.
Not even Perlman can make me like this piece, the most boring concerto by Beethoven.
The sound is beyond terrible, either too faint to hear or overwhelmingly loud.
Waste of bow strokes and key presses.
I've seen many of your comments. Just want to know the mind of a person like you more. first q.:
Who are your favourite musicians? Pianists and violinists primarly are in my interest. Thank you for your response in advance.
It’s quite a dreary rendition. No wonder the pianist looks so pissed off with her dad!
Paid the rent money, I guess.
