    I agree with you Eric that move is so tough for the normal golfer. But wouldn't that be similar to the stack and tilt as well by leaving most of the weight on your front side. My one thought is left shoulder right pocket to start the downswing and left pocket right shoulder to start the downswing. Thanks for the videos

    Being one of the high handcappers, I really don't use lower body much at all, heard plenty about using the ground and the hip "slide". This is a very athletic move, is there a way to break this down and learn in segments without a club or ball just body motion

    Eric,
    So I have always struggled using my hips correctly. I was self taught at a young and only started taking regular lessons recently. I'm 54yrs old. 7 handicapp now after a 12yr layoff. My misses, with a driver let's say, is a bad pull draw or a push and sometimes a dead block. My good shots are a nice draw.
    My pga instructor wants me to start using my hips correctly. All they say is "First move in downswing I want you to open your hips" and that's all they say. Never show me HOW to do it.
    So, should I do what's in this video or another one of your lower body videos?
    Thanks

      Hey there!
      If a golfer is not getting their hips forward enough soon enough, they will definitely need to consciously make it happen. As with all things golf swing, it will typically require 1000X more exaggeration than you think just to get to neutral :)

    This is Athletic Motion Golf teaching in a nutshell… the concept of a slight lateral shift at the start of the backswing, recentering as you near the top of the backswing, and then surfing/falling left at the top and in transition. They, along with Eric, are the good standard in golf instruction. These two golf channels are all you need to know. Thanks for sharing, Eric. Your collaborations with Mark have been fantastic. 👊👊

    It is called the figure 8!!. Athletes and dancers use it. Surfers, tennis players, baseball players swimmers, figure skaters, ballerinas, salsa dancers and hula dancers. Mothers rocking their children to sleep while standing using the figure 8 with their hips will calm the child. The figure eight is the symbol of infinity. Never ending. A smooth non jerky motion, like a wave crashing onto the beach, a leaf falling from a tree, a tornado in the sky. This is in nature. If you teach a child the figure 8 motion of moving his body he will he able to adapt to any sport. That is why the professional golfers look so smooth with their strokes. I bet any money Tiger Wood's mom rocked him to sleep using the figure 8 movement with her hips.

    Eric you must have very soft, light, flexible shoes seeing the way the sole bends on your left foot at the end of every swing. Would you recommend that kind of shoe for most players? The old, traditional golf shoe (and I have been playing for 59 years) was the opposite, with a firm sole, often with a steel shank reinforcement like the old Foot Joy leather classics, designed to give the player a stable rock solid platform. That no longer seems to be true.

    we used to do that drill in school where you take a back swing with feet together then move the lead foot down the line to start down swing. and of course if one turns the trail hip far enough back it does kinda throw the the body toward the target automatically. results my vary. as i have aged and my backswing is now so short i really have to be aware of this because the club has less distance to travel and it can be an issue to get into a good impact position.

    Have seen this type of "downswing starts sooner than you think" video a few times. Totally bought into it.
    But there's danger in it.
    Started to implement. Felt like I was making progress, but then suddenly I was losing power and consistency. I got a swing analysis with a side-by-side of my swing to Tiger and Rory's (it was a shameful moment!) and it was pretty clear that I was now moving my hips too soon in the backswing, which was wreaking havoc on my loading at the top of my backswing and getting me all out of sync. Interested to hear how you might balance the tension between the need to feel like your hips are moving fast early and gathering your backswing properly?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 роки тому +2

      Hey Dan!
      The reality is you need to use video (always) to confirm your REALS vs FEELs.
      Sounds to me like you run into a problem lots do....something starts good and you over do....the error.....you weren't videoing yourself throughout to check
      Here specifically is the drill I would use with the noodle on right hip....should stay on it during takeaway then only come up 1-2 inches from there to top then steadily away

    Interesting session Eric. While as a Stack and Tilt disciple I don't subscribe to moving my weight to the right on the backswing the thought of the behind touching the wall and sliding toward the target and starting forward when the left arm is parallel to the ground are very helpful visuals. • @davecohn6407
    @davecohn6407 2 роки тому +1

    This is a misinterpretation of an important move in the swing. Near the end of the backswing , while the arms are still going back, there is some lateral movement of the sacrum ( bottom of the spine) toward the target . The lateral move continues during transition until the left side of the pelvis moves enough so that the lead foot is sufficiently weighted.The amount of this lateral movement is dependent on the width of the stance and how much weight is placed on the left foot at setup. Setting up in “reverse k” translates to very little lateral movement . Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES does the outside of the left hip go beyond the outside of the left foot , because doing so would place the lead hip socket in a position so that the pelvis runs out of range of motion to“ rotate”
    The rear leg does not usually get straight during the backswing or transition , so the angled the right leg is not present except among a small % of players with a driver
    Dustin Johnson , Rory Mcilroy, Tiger Woods are among the vast majority of players whose rear leg does not come close to straightening in transition
