  • There’s a Hasidic community in Crown Heights Brooklyn. The Chabad Lubavich sect is headquartered there. Chabad-Lubavich is so different from the sects of Williamsburg, that this neighborhood feels completely foreign to me even though I am so familiar with the Hasidic community. On this visit, I had a nice time roaming around during the emissary get-together and enjoyed that unlike in Williamsburg, I feel much more at ease here.

Hi Frieda - Yes, Chabad sometimes feels like the most ‘Modern’ chassidus. Perhaps it’s the outreach activities they practice, fearlessly bringing yiddishkeit where even the ‘angels fear to tread’. I’m so happy you find yourself so comfortable there in Crown Heights. It’s always nice to find a good community zone where you might be able to connect. 😇❤️

Why wouldn't she feel comfortable there? Chabad IS the most open of chassidic "sects" (I hate that word!).
I am glad to see her at The Annual Women's Conference! People should look into it-- it is extremely interesting! As much as the Rebbeim on shluchus are vital to a Jewish community, the Rebbetzins are truly the glue who holds them together! There are some great interviews with people (and great sheitls!), on some UA-cam channels about the conference! They're fun to watch! I often wish on one's way "out" of chassidus, they would stumble into 770 and meet some of the more modern parts of the frum communities that exist, and see that there are COUNTLESS varieties and levels of observance, including one to suit "you"! Don't get me wrong, people can do what they want, but I know DOZENS of Chabadniks who wear pants, with their sheitl, while doing carpool. Or super short skirts, lol. (my husband used to say he would sometimes have to look away bc it made him uncomfortable, lol!). Although we live in LA, so we probably have a larger population of "Hot Chanis", as they are known in their world, and others, than NYC does. bC of the warmer weather?? Who knows!
Anyway, there are a lot of divorced chabaniks, more so than in other communities, I think. But they don't want to leave the community or Yiddishkeit, which is always nice to see. So we try to toss them right back into the sea! But whatever works for a person!😅

Frieda I am so glad you decided to finally visit Chabad. The main difference between Chabad and other chassidim is the belief that if you were birn to a Jewish mother then you are absolutely 100 percent Jewish. What the Rebbe emphasized is total acceptance of every Jew and to help each Jew/Jewess do another mitzvah. For women the emphasis is lighting Shabbos Candles, keeping a kosher kitchen and (if married) keeping family purity. Chabad shluchim live in all parts over the world, just to help another Jew come closer to Torah and mitzvos each at their own pace.

Then there is the "human experience" or "Pshat" then the "big ideas" or "Remez" then there is "Skill acquisition" or "Drush" then there is "Over arching concepts that apply to other domains" or "Sod" and then there is the "Core concept" which is the authentic "Chassidus" on that subject.
