He interrupts her and it pisses me off. Interviews with her are so rare; let her talk.
Such an incredible intellect. Her works are true masterpieces.
Yes, he has some good questions but he is a piss poor interviewer
FR he did the same thing when they had their first interview together back in 1992
It is so ridiculous that it’s almost comical. Everything she says is succinct and honest; every word is gold. Interrupting her feels like a crime. Unbearable to watch. Yet she keeps persisting to converse with the mortal. Bless her. It is no wonder she barely does interviews.
His interview technique comes from the fact originally back in the day (particularly 90s etc) they had a very exact time slot and usually publishers would need X number of questions answered, if you let the author ramble away on one question you don't get your 15- or 30-minute segment and your X number of questions answered.
Shows like this are non-existent now, and where rare even then, the fact we even get the interview is itself a marvel, despite its limitations.
I love that this entire comment section is just as wholeheartedly in awe of Donna Tartt as I am.
she's basically the mother and embodiment of dark academia. just look at her. glamorous.
totally agree. Looking out for her new book! The Goldfinch was wonderful.
That is the embodiment of Western Civilization and European genes, that also gave birth to Charles Dickens.
@@islamtoghuj what do “european genes” have to do with anything
Ironically, The Secret History is both a critique and parody of dark academia’s aesthetics and ideas, despite being what inspired the trend.
@@victoriansquirrel Elitism and classism
Donna Tartt is one of the best writers of her generation. The only shame about her is that it takes her 10 years for a novel to finish. But the good side about that of course is that then it's perfect.
"one of the best writers of her generation"
I actually laughed out loud at that
@@TomorrowWeLive who would you say is better, and why is she not among them?
@@papatrudell7731 wondering this as well out of actual curiosity
@@TomorrowWeLive What a brilliant criticism Mr Fascist! You should tell her that she's no good.
@@TomorrowWeLive because you'rs a nasty, jealous misogynist?
Art takes time to be made. You cannot rush art. The fact that she takes so much time to write a book is because she creates sheer perfection with skill and the knowledge life offers along the way.

The Secret History and The Goldfinch were absolute masterpieces.
Don't forget the Little Friend
Agree!!
@@tagorewithlyric4394 idk, I bought it but never got into it for some reason. It didn't have the same grab for me as the others did, but maybe I just need to make it further.
I'm really aching to read The secret history and i want to really understand it in depth and not have the literary references go over my head so what works /legends should i be familiar with before reading it?
@@andreea9348 the main group of characters are studying classics, so many of the allusions and concepts dealt with are from Greek tragedies
i want to be as wise and beautiful minded as her when I'm older. I'm fourteen and have started reading the goldfinch, I'm about half way through it and I'm completely and utterly in love with everything about the novel. ever since i got the book my fingers have been glued to it and at the end of the day, when i have to put it down, my mind is racing with what will happen next. sometimes i can't even sleep because i want to continue with the book so badly and honestly that is exactly why i am so passionate about this novel. I'm so in love with the goldfinch and i am so excited to read her other books and the others in the future.
Right??? Her books are the only ones I don’t struggle to finish. Seeing the world through her lense just makes everything more beautiful.
Dalyla, if Donna reads your comment her heart will burst with joy!
Lol, sounds like me… Don’t do this, but I used to fake being sick so I could stay home from school to finish reading books. 🥰🤷♀️
And what are your thoughts on the Goldfinch as an 18-year-old now?
You’re 18 now(maybe 19). How is life treating you? ❤
I cannot stand when people interrupt their interviewees... Donna is wonderful, her writing absolutely excellent.
I am completely obsessed with her and her writing.
Imagine what will come out in 3-4 years from now.
@@KanwarAnand can't wait
What a beautiful woman, honestly.
o yes. And I would kill my entire family for that jacket....
who cares? it's about her talent.
"Nothing worthwhile is easy". She's such a beautiful wise soul. This is something I really need to remind myself more often.
Thank you Donna 💕
I love the way she stops, bends down her head, almost closes her eyes and then utters an idea that is so profound! ♥️♥️♥️
RIGHT???? She always had those thinking pauses before saying something and it's so lovely
Without the internet I would have probably never seen these wonderful interveiws! I am so grateful for the internet!
but, but cyberbullying, but, but instagram models! Yes, the internet is the greatest thing of all time, it's crazy how many people casually dismiss it and will even say life was better before it, so silly.
i can't wait for her fourth novel
the dislikes are from the people who hate the interviewers interrupting an intellectual woman when she speaks.
>intellectual
kek
He interrupts Martin Amis too.
so witty, you never know just what she's thinking. the almost androgynous way she dresses, the way she's so subtle hardly anyone knows details about her personal life. the look in her eyes. she makes a fool of death and puts the greek gods to shame. i wish to be like her.
i have never felt more connected emotionally to a book than to the Goldfinch. This is a great novel.
He's really a great interviewer. He always responds with authentic interest and he picks up on the things we want explained and expressed as viewers/ fans. And more than anything he seems to know what he's talking about without interrupting.
yeah he seems like a good enough interviewer, I dont get the hate in the comments
@@krabbykat9918 misandry
Except that he forgot that he met her 20 years earlier in 1992 lol or at least the way he said it, that’s how it came off.
Ashamed to ask, Not knowing "his Name" without interrupting Ms. Tartt's interview. I do agree 💯%
@@derickyyollis710 Charlie Rose
Oh, my. What a remarkable woman. What a mind.
So sad he kept trying to impress her .
The Goldfinch is a masterpiece, and Donna Tart is a genius. Even if I have to wait 10 years for her next book it’s completely worth it 💕
I'm looking forward to her upcoming work "You Never Really Know What Kind Of A Jackass Is Interviewing You"
I take it you don’t like Charlie Rose - But you worship his exceptional creative power -
DONNA TARTT IS A GENIUS. BRILLIANT.
She's a gem.
What is it with these interviewers interrupting this woman!!
He's a bad interviewer, and yet, he and Larry King made a career from it.
Happened a lot in their previous interview
Charlie Rose always liked two things: 1) His perceived superior intellect & "with-it" cool and, 2) Listening to himself talk. His interviewees are simply a means to amplify those ends.
Donna Tartt is a FEMALE person of Talent, Intelligence and Substance; given what we have learned about Rose, can you imagine how much HE needed to put HER under HIS control?
@@gregoryblaska1586 Wow, I didn't realize at first that this was Charlie Rose. I was listening to it in the background while I was working. He creeped me out talking about her persona and the color of her skin, etc. I looked to see who the interviewer was and then it made sense. I love her books and hope she has something new in the works.
@@lindaharbison9567 I remember Susan Sarandon being interviewed by Rose and putting him in his place.
When he semi-salaciously asked if she was somewhat uncomfortable about her lovemaking with Catherine Deneuve in THE HUNGER,
Sarandon screwed a look on him and snapped back,
"Well, let me ask you something, Charlie: What would YOU have felt given an opportunity to sleep with Catherine Deneuve?"
He responded with a defeated chuckle and said, "You have a point. . ."
To which Sarandon masterfully replied "UNH, HUNH" with an unrelenting (you-stupid-F*CK) deadpan stare.
It's so clear what he's "up to" with Tartt, here -- what a schmuck!
I was way more adept and worlds more considerate as a teenager in the 8th grade.
Over 20 years have passed between the two.
DONNA TARTT IS A GENIUS and BRILLIANT wise soul. I love her presentation... beautiful, elegance and a brilliant mind. She is a mazing and a great author. Kudos! ,Donna ,for trusting your subconscious mind.
She is a dark academia vampire and i am HERE for it.
ALSO - I finished this book a week ago. And I'm not over it. At all.
Her eyes are still so bright. They're so mesmerizingly youthful.
I love her with all my heart. Очень.
Sophie Борис, ето ты?
When she’s reciting Sailing to Byzantium, somewhat meek, disconnected, nervous - and then transforms. She falls into that muscle memory and embodies the words, eyes glowing, voice confident and steeped in power. I get chills
10:12 He met her for the first time? What about the interview from 1992? Charlie Rose is really annoying...
Yeah. Wth...
when you meet someone once, and then meet them 10 years later, you are meeting a whole new person. Charlie rose is a very self-centered interviewer, true. But i think he is right when he says he "just met her".
I thought the same thing. It's rude.
Charlie is a mess BUT so few interviewers these days are so deeply and well-read. I wish there was an opportunity for one of his long format interviews (60' +) with Miss Tartt.
Reading the goldfinch after watching the movie, such a rollicking good story, so many twists and turns so beautifully, vividly and artistically described. Masterful writer ❤️
wow they both aged so much since the last interview you put up!
D o n n a T a r a t t i s a n a v i d s m o k e r .
22 years will do that.
Yes she does.
I find her beautiful in many ways least of all her graceful aging which we all will do!
She's fifty years old here.. i think she looks happy and amazing!
She says Art is a still point. A bit of eternity. A respite.
Staggeringly precise poetry from a great mind. Loved this interview even though I have not read one of her books yet…❤️👁
Love work & good health all. 🙏🏻🌋🗽🌿
This is such a good book. I may read it again. Thank you for posting this.
Looove this interview! Especially Tartt‘s description of her process!
We lived in Maine in the 50’s, the bookmobile was your lifeline.
brilliant interviewer! and donna’s articulation is really just amazing. wow!
I am A Chemistry,Mathematics Devotee,About 5 Years Ago I Started Studying Donna Tart,She is Valuable And Special Like Take the Charles Dickens Example, She Is A Genius A Great Influence, One Will Never Tire Of Her Excitement,She is My Hero!
Beauty, elegance, and a brilliant mind
Dear Donna Tartt, I have read a modest 280 books in my 36 years. I have read 24 books so far in 2020. Not only is the Goldfinch the best of those 24 books I read this year but it might just be the absolute best I have ever read. Can I say thank you and cocoon myself to a fan? No. I feel the coincidences and parallels with my life, the references (hidden/sarcastic) were almost always open to me and somehow just by some patterny intervention, I knew all the cities you mention in the book.
why count?
u stalking bro?
A detective might ask Charlie Rose about saying he just met her . He interviewed her several decades ago on her first novel.
Adore your books, edgy, and paints a beautiful canvas with hidden elements, where there is always more to be found.
I like watching this often and I always go back at 16:20
She’s an honest artist and an honest person. She ts trading her life to make her books. How can we complain?
She’s so sensitive and a little nervous and he keeps interrupting her it’s so frustrating. Interviewers annoy me lately. Tom Bilyeu is the best interviewer, good questions, really listens.
@ 10;46 there’s a shaft of joy cutting through in her answer, I like how much she says with her face.
Eine der besten Schriftstellerin unserer Zeit Einfach nur Klasse!!
At this point I'll buy anything she puts out instantly
Her writing is the perfect mix of modern and classic
I write my books at a slow pace, and I am about to be done with Book 7. Truth be told, there are authors who tend to write at a fast pace while there are some who write at a slow pace. Nothing wrong with writing at a slow pace, for I believe books that take quite some time to be written result in beautiful masterpieces.
Interesting writer with real ideas and questions, had not known her before, many thanks.
Charlie needs 2 let her finish her thoughts/sentences! He's very demanding! Lighten up dude! ✌☮
16:22 when she started to recite sailing to Byzantium ❤ love this part always makes me feel better
12:29 absolutely brilliant
my favorite writer
She is so chic. Absolute icon.
She did't change same soul ♡
She`s a genius writer!
Liked it very much.......the love of literature.
“I’ve just met you”
Hang on, didn’t you interview her in 92 ?
Exactly what I was thinking. Thank you for commenting this.
When I was in college in the '80s one year I bought my girlfriend a men's tie for her birthday. It was a big mistake.........with her. This woman would have appreciated it.
The interviewer is just like Bunny :)
HAHAH my sentiments exactly 😂
Loool absolutely
Yes yes
She sounds like Miyazaki about creating a story
what do you mean exactly?
I just don’t thing she’s all that bright or engaging. Im obviously kidding. I’m in love with this woman and I don’t care who knows it!
Incredible person
I wanna marry her
I've just watched this guy interview Donna in 1992.... let's see if he interrupts her just as much in 2014 as he did then....
And I adore her narrationof Charles Portres "True Grit "
What a remarkable woman; and author....
Rockin' the Weimar Berlin look
I love her! ❤
She is Such a Nice and Admirable lady!😃
That really isn’t the voice I thought she’d have, but I like it
I feel so uncomfortable when he's talking about her persona, her look, and then demanding she recite something to him. I feel like he's openly flirting with her and it's ew.
and why does he act like he just met her when he interviewed her after her first book?
Yeah, Charlie Rose is really cringy. His other interviews are like that, too.
After it came that he was sexually harassing women, and I look back at these interviews, it makes my skin crawl. He was clearly grooming her to give him what his sordid fantasies wanted to hear. Yuk!
@@VanJolene come on, quit this nonsense. It has become fashionable to accuse white men of sexual harassment, even though most of these allegations are purely invented and just follow a despicable political agenda.
8:30 that's it. That's exactly what writing a book is like🥰
God she's gorgeous, clever, stylish, classy. The list continues!
"This is it. This is my form. This is what I do."
she is a great she is artist
She’s so beautiful
Much better interviewer than the person on 1992
Fantastic interview!
She reminds me of Cate Blanchett
How so?
Charlie Rose's comments about Donna Tartt are creepy.
Love her shoutout to Charles Dickens. He really is that good.
She was too nice to him
She's so Cool
fascinating interview; i learned a lot! thanks
im obsessed with her
I like the direction Donna is taking the interview. Charlie keeps cutting the flow of the conversation
Let. Her. Speak.
JFC
Yo bob is fye
if he interrupts her one more time, so help me!!!!!!! LET HER TALK!
I was enjoying The Goldfinch, but I wish there was more philosophy behind it than just fun. Also, I just watched you interview her in 1993 Charlie, you didn't just meet her in 2014 you creepy old man
Miss ya Charlie.
Think I'm in love.
Fantastic interview with an incredible Lady and novelist. I miss Charlie Rose.
i look at donna tartt and some some reason i wish i was her daughter. and it comes from deep inside
