My wife switched to an Android after years of iPhones. She wanted a phone that didn't look identical to her previous one, and saved a whole load of money. It almost sounds sensible when stated like that.

@@Yamat610 Samsung s24 is one of the best choices, pixel as well. Or if you prefer something different, go with oneplus. I had iph 13 pro max, switched to Huawei mate 50 pro and now I have pixel 8 pro. Don't go Huawei from iphone, you need quite a few workarounds to make it work. It's my favorite, but better avoid it.

@@Yamat610 I enjoy it! Takes a little getting used to, and I try to be delicate with the screen as the protector can be dented from your fingernail. The tiny dents are not visible when the screen is on. I love slapping the phone closed though, hinge feels SOLID.

I've just moved to a pixel 9 pro from years of iPhones, and it's excellent. Good advice about switching off iMessage as I have a Mac and forgot to do that- one of my friends texts me via iMessage and they only come through on my MacBook! The face ID on the pixel doesn't work in the dark, but it just reverts to the on-screen fingerprint reader which works brilliantly. I don't miss my iPhone really - only miss it when I'm using the apple TV box. It's just nice to have an upgrade that is different and customizable. I will probably go back to iPhone one day but only when something different comes along.

Apple wants to lock its users into the iCult, where it can charge ridiculous prices for phones that vaguely promise the features you just paid for at some unspecified future date.

@@DareyoutoyryI switched to iPhone in 2022 for some reasons, same reasons are keeping me glued to this. Overall, if I could - I’d threw it out of the window and got back on an android bandwagon. No os is perfect, iOS too - stupid lags and glitches from time to time. Can’t get rid of things, can’t make things work the way I want - always need to adjust to Apple’s way of thinking. Stupid safari and cant get rid of it and also everything is a WebKit on iPhone anyways. Stupid flying turd and lack of the fingerprint sensor pisses me off from time to time. Other than that - cameras are alright(iPhone 14 Pro), screen is alright on Pro. Apple does everything to vendorlock you and they are doing it good. Privacy-wise - I don’t trust either of the big tech companies, both are greedy and data mining. You can be a multibillion or trillion company without doing shady things. One thing that I can on Android and can’t on iPhone - install a firewall and block every communication I don’t want to :)

Whilst everyone bags on apple for slowing down older devices the iPhone just felt faster and it was a similar age. I now have a 13 pro and loving it. A high end phone is a high end phone so each of them will have great battery life, camera, screen etc no matter if you choose apple or android. Go for an older iPhone and if you like the experience then get a newer one. @Randomdude21-e So many things.
I can make a list about them, like split-screen, fast charging, reverse wireless charging, and freedom of customization. Being able to do anything with your phone is basically what iPhones lack the most. And there are many still lot of things.
Also, in terms of the camera, the iPhone is again left behind. Many Android phones can now zoom up to 100x, although Samsung is the pioneer in this feature. And Huawei.
As of recently. Iphone adapting older android features. Such as moving app. They also recently joined rcs. Oh you can also pause video in iphone now. Which again they call this a new thing. Pathetic. And now you can record a call. And that's all about it from iphone newest features 😂 oh the airdrop feature? That's not even new. Samsung s4 had it That's a feature from android beam. crazy thing about the Pixel is that ALL of the data the Google gleans from every Google user in the world is put into the apps on Pixel phones to make them way more useful and helpful than any other Android or Apple phone. i was shocked to see how much 'smarter' Pixel phones are than other phones.

I got out of iPhones when I was going to upgrade my 4s! My wife dropped her phone down the loo, so she had the iPhone, and I went out and bought an HTC One M8. I couldn't believe how good it was compared to the iPhone.
Since then, I've had phones from OnePlus, and Xiaomi/ Redmi, and will never go back to the dark side.

I'm thinking of making the switch after lots of years of iPhone use. Love the iOS eco-system for ease of use, but I'm finding it increasingly hard to justify the cost of an upgrade for a largely identical phone. Any recommendations for what to go for next after my iPhone 13?

The first step is to find a device you like the look of. Currently there is no hardware I like that runs Android, as I prefer the smaller form factor of the SE / Mini. I don’t have any ecosystem ‘holding me back’, just the phone. There are no good similar sized Android phones with good software support.
You can get a new SE at a steep discount if you don’t get it specifically from the Apple website (who does that anyways?). The internals of the 2022 SE are a bit overkill though for such a small phone.
